CASE MANAGEMENT IS ESSENTIAL IN A SCHOOL-BASED SETTING
ABSTRACT
Case management in a school-based setting is an integral part in helping students overcome barriers by providing support services. These support services include meeting their physiological needs like food, shelter, and clothing. When students lack necessities, it prevents them from focusing on their academics. Therefore, developing feasible plans to address students’ needs is vital to a student’s continued academic success. The research question is as follows: What percentage of students who are referred to case management services end up having their needs successfully met? This study examined the number of students among the K-12 student population in Colton Joint Unified School (CJUSD) district who are referred to the case management program and had their needs successfully met and describe barriers in case management services. The research used quantitative descriptive data collection methods and focused specifically on case management services provided by CJUSD. Quantitative data was collected from Titanium and demographic surveys. The study examined 70 cases that were picked at random. The research findings showed that 45.7% of the needs were successfully met, 10% declined services, and 32.9% were unable to contact. This research helps school social workers understand the different factors that play a vital role in case management and the barriers students face. The goal of this research is to improve students’ ability to function in school by identifying barriers in the case management program

ABSTRACT
The High Desert Health and Resource Guide offers an in-dept exploration of the challenges and resources available to support the high desert communities, particularly to include cities of Apple Valley, Phelan and Victorville. These communities are composed of low-income households, and they face significant health disparities and food insecurity. Factors such as limited access to healthcare, mental health services, homeless shelters, and limited availability of health food choices. Additionally, many cities in the region are affected by food deserts, which further hinder resident’s ability to access nutritious, wholesome food. The resource guidebook highlights both the challenges and issues that need to be addressed by offering a comprehensive overview of the available support and resources available to residence to possibly improve health outcomes and overall quality of life in the high desert. The resource guidebook aims to promote awareness, encourage community engagement, and overall contribute to the knowledge of what services are offered in the different community to individuals living in the high desert communities
CHALLENGES THE SPORTING INDUSTRY FACED DURING COVID-19 ON FAN ATTENDANCE: THE CASE OF THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
This culminating experience project investigates the challenges the sporting industry faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focused look at the National Basketball Association. The research questions are: (Q1) How did the NBA arena shutdowns impact fan attendance for each team during the COVID-19 pandemic? (Q2) What factors influenced NBA arena attendance before the COVID-19 shutdowns? (Q3) What factors influenced NBA arena attendance after the COVID-19 shutdown? The data collected includes all 30 NBA teams from 2019 through the 2024 seasons. The research questions were analyzed using multilinear regression analysis and comparison of attendance data over 6 seasons including the immediate seasons before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings and conclusions for each question are: (Q1) Involves comparing the seasonal attendance data for each team and the percentage change between each year, highlighting the pivotal 2021 pandemic year. (Q2) A focus on factors that influenced NBA attendance before the shutdowns, with a focus on arena capacity, winning percentage, key performance statistics per game, and revenue. (Q3) A focus on factors after the shutdowns, with statistical analysis of models comparing the NBA with the MLB, MLS, and NFL
Using Virtual Reality to Train Teacher Candidates in Classroom Management
This study used a multiple baseline across behaviors design to analyze the effects of didactic training plus simulated rehearsal and feedback on a preservice teacher’s implementation of behavior management skills (i.e., opportunities to respond, behavior specific praise, token reward system) with students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Results indicate a functional relation between the intervention package and increased teacher performance across all three behavior management skills. Participants reported positive perceptions and experiences of the use of simulated classroom environments like TeachLivETM as a training component. Implications for future research and practice are provided
APPLICATIONS OF THE FREQUENCY DOMAIN IN AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
This thesis explores applications of the frequency domain (also known as spectral domain) in autonomous driving. Through the application of the discrete Fourier transform to images and features used by autonomous driving systems, an invaluable alternative representation of this information is achieved. In this domain, any pointwise modification of data globally impacts the spatial domain, making global receptive fields easy to obtain. Furthermore, by considering the constituent frequencies of the data in this domain, it is possible to separate and focus on the low and high frequency components of the data, yielding new insights into its structure.
In this work, the value of this approach will be demonstrated empirically. A novel data augmentation strategy exploiting frequency domain representations will be shown to significantly improve the accuracy of various state-of-the-art (SOTA) Bird\u27s-Eye-View map segmentation networks. Applying the frequency domain directly within the network itself proves valuable as well, through the application of Fast Fourier Convolution to the BEV features. These improvements are found when applying Fast Fourier Convolution to both BEVDet based models and transformer based ones such as MapTR.
These results show the underutilized potential of frequency domain representations to enhance autonomous driving perception systems. Due to the broad applicability of the Fourier transform to various data types, both discrete and continuous, there remains a great untapped potential to exploit the frequency domain in computer vision. It is hoped that this work will provide new insights to the research community and encourage further explorations of the frequency domain in autonomous driving
Assessing Phenotypic Variation Across Generations of Iberodes littoralis Under Climate Change
The consequences of climate change and anthropogenic activity have decreased wildlife biodiversity. Plants are particularly vulnerable to climate change due to their large biomass on the planet and sessile nature. A particularly useful method for plants to cope with environmental changes is phenotypic plasticity. Adjusting morphological traits through plasticity can help plants cope with environmental changes. Furthermore, plastic responses can be passed down through methods such as changes in DNA sequence or epigenetic modifications.
Our research project focuses on an herb, Iberodes littoralis, a species of concern native to the Siberian Peninsula with approximately thirteen extant populations. The data that we analyzed was collected by researchers of Universidade de Coruna. We looked at morphological and physiological data of individuals from four genetically distinct and isolated populations to determine 1) Can parent environment influence the response of the F1 generation to its own environment? 2) Does environment have an influence on the phenotype of the F1 generation? and 3) Does population influence the phenotype variation and response of the F1 individuals? Based on these questions, we hypothesized that 1) Parents placed in harsh environmental conditions (drought) will give the F1 generation a phenotypic advantage (increased biomass) compared to offspring whose parents were in normal conditions. 2) Individuals placed in stressful drought conditions (regardless of parent condition) will display decrease biomass and more stress compared to individuals in natural conditions. And 3) individuals from different populations will have different phenotypes and will respond differently to the two conditions.
We analyzed four morphological traits (flower mass, root mass, shoot mass and shoot/root ratio) and four physiological indices (Photochemical Reflectance Index (PRI), Chlorophyll Content (CHL), Water Index (WI), and Yield) using ANOVA Type III Sums of Square on R Studio and generated reaction plots and bar graphs in Excel to visualize the data.
Our results suggest that parent environment does not have an influence on F1 response to its own environment. The biggest determinant of phenotypic plasticity was the environment that F1 individuals were placed in. However, contrary to what we expected, individuals placed in the drought condition had increased biomass in all four morphological traits compared to individuals placed in natural conditions. Physiological indices were predominantly non-significant. Furthermore, as we hypothesized, population had a significant influence on F1 phenotype and response in certain morphological traits but not others.
Although our research suggests that Iberodes littoralis is adjusting to the warming climate, transcriptomic analysis is needed to determine changes in gene expression in stress-related response genes for a more thorough understanding of the molecular basis for the environmentally induced plasticity changes of Iberodes littoralis
ADDRESSING TRANSPHOBIA IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY: A SURVEY OF TEACHERS\u27 AWARENESS AND RECEPTIVENESS IN CALIFORNIA
Transphobia is a form of discrimination against transgender, non-binary, two-spirit, genderqueer, and intersex individuals based on their gender identity. Transphobia and transphobic rhetoric result in higher rates of bullying and mental health challenges for transgender students. A significant obstacle presented in the education system for transgender students is the lack of education on interventions against transphobic bullying. This study assessed the awareness and receptiveness of K -12 teachers in California regarding the use of school-based interventions against transphobia. Using a purposive sampling method, this cross-sectional study surveyed K -12 teachers across California to determine their awareness and receptiveness levels regarding school-based interventions against transphobia (N = 103). Descriptive statistics revealed that about a fifth of the sample (18.4%) reported only a low to moderate level of awareness in reference to anti-transphobic interventions. Similarly, 12.1% of the participants reported a low to moderate receptiveness toward using such interventions. Although low, these proportions are significant. The findings of this study have implications for the K-12 system by calling on teachers to broaden their understanding of ways to combat transphobia among adolescent queer communities and for policy reform regarding transgender education
ONTOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF PARASAUROLOPHUS BRAINCASES (ORNITHISCHIA, HADROSAURIDAE) FROM THE KAIPAROWITS FORMATION (UPPER CRETACEOUS) OF UTAH, USA: COMPARING JUVENILE AND ADULT MORPHOLOGY
This study documents the ontogenetic development of the braincase in Parasaurolophus, a lambeosaurine hadrosaurid dinosaur known for its distinctive cranial crest. Whereas the crest has been extensively examined for its roles in communication and display, the braincase remains less understood, despite its structural and functional relationship with the crest. This research compares the braincase morphology of a juvenile specimen (RAM 14000, Baby Joe ), a subadult specimen (RAM 17000), and an adult P. tubicen (NMMNH P-25100), to investigate how developmental changes influenced sensory systems, neurocranial architecture, and biomechanical adaptations across ontogeny.
Detailed morphological analysis reveals progressive changes from juvenile to adult stages, including elongation of the basisphenoid and parasphenoid processes, expansion and fusion of the exoccipitals, and anterior migration of cranial nerve foramina. RAM 14000 exhibits a bulbous basioccipital and widely spaced neurocranial elements indicative of early stage neurocranial flexibility. In contrast, RAM 17000 shows an intermediate condition, with a notably taller parasphenoid process and a more angular basisphenoid than either RAM 14000 or NMMNH P-25100, suggesting active remodeling during adolescence. P. tubicen presents the most derived morphology, with a reinforced occipital region, smoothed supraoccipital, and extensive neurocranial integration likely adapted to support a fully developed dorsal crest.
These findings support a peramorphic growth model for Parasaurolophus, marked by accelerated development and exaggeration of adult traits. Comparative data suggest that Parasaurolophus braincase development diverged from that of other lambeosaurines by exhibiting earlier and more pronounced neurocranial changes, including a more rapid development of the frontal and parietal regions and elongation of the supracranial crest. By incorporating both ontogenetic and phylogenetic perspectives, this study provides new insights into how developmental timing and structural adaptation contributed to the unique cranial morphology of Parasaurolophus, particularly in its most morphologically specialized member, P. tubicen
