The Theory of the' Incentive Tax Rate'
Pollution tax gives the firm a strong economic incentive to reduce emissions from the present market level to the next market level. But it is by no means clear that a pollution tax induces innovation of pollution abatement.
In this paper we will examine the plausibility of our assertion that the imposition of `incentive tax rate' has the effect of reducing pollution by spurring innovation
Does Management Philosophy Influence Performance? -Based upon Experimental and Statistical Analyses on Pervasiveness of Management Philosophy-
In this article, we describe how management philosophy affects corporate performance.
For this purpose, we conducted experimental and statistical analyses on two corporations and clarified causal relationships between management philosophy and members’ performance
(their commitment, motivation, contribution, etc.).
At the beginning, we introduced three variables, which make it easier for us to understand how individuals treat management philosophy: (1) reflecting philosophy on actual behavior, (2)
knowing and understanding philosophy, and (3) having sympathy for philosophy.
Using the results of the experimental research, we explore a persuasive model, which satisfactorily explains how those variables indirectly affect corporate performance via other factors. Second, with this model, we describe, for example, the way senior officers treat management philosophy influences the extent to which followers accept the philosophy. We also suggest that a sense of unity and solidarity helps members take the philosophy seriously. Third, we discuss how management philosophy triggers innovative behavior in organizations.
The point we have tried to make in this article is that the more deeply and widely management philosophy permeates an organization, the higher and the stronger performance (of individuals) could be achieved
Econometric Approach of Residential Rents Regidity
We take advantage of a panel data of housing rents for the period of 1986 to 2006 which we have compiled from 720, 000 listings in the widely-circulated housing advertisement magazine.First, we find that the probability of rent adjustment does not depend on the deviation of actual rent from its target level. We also find a flat hazard function at least for durations less than 400 weeks. These results suggest that the rent adjustment obeys a Poisson process. Second, the Calvo parameter is estimated to be 0. 97, indicating that the probability of the rent adjustment occurs is 3 percent per quarter, much lower than the estimate for other goods and services.Third, we find that estimates for the inflation rate during the bubble and the post-bubble periods are sensitive to a change in the treatment of the imputed rent for owner occupied housing
A Numerical Analysis of Compensation for Nuisance Facilities Siting Applying Moving Strike Put Options
This paper focuses compensation for nuisance facilities siting applying moving strike put options. This option is a right of local residents to sell their land at an appropriate price that corresponds to the land of no nuisance facility in the future. The model to evaluate the value of the option is developed and the value is computed numerically. As a result the value of the option is just 0.6% of the initial land price, and this value is much lower than the difference of the expectation of land value between nuisance siting area and no nuisance area
Plagiarism, Hiroshima, and Intertextuality:Ibuse Masuji's Black Rain Reconsidered
This paper examines the ongoing controversy about whether or not Ibuse Masuji plagiarize(tōsaku/hyōsetsu/tōyō) from the diary of Shigematsu Shizuma, the most important source that Ibuse used in writing his highly acclaimed a-bomb novel Kuroi ame (Black rain, 1966). By analyzing the contexts of Ibuse’s composition, the strategies and motives of Toyota Seishi(who initially stirred up the plagiarism controversy), and the textual difference between Ibuse’s novel and Shigematsu’s diary, this paper demonstrates that the accusation of Black Rain as a work of plagiarism is a decontextualized and misleading oversimplification that neglects the complex process of literary creation.
The intertextual inquiry not only shows that Ibuse’s augmentation of the diary has transformed his most important source and created new meanings but also calls for a rethinking of the place of intertextuality in relation to the creative process in the extraordinary number of plagiarism cases in twentieth-century Japanese literature
The Imperial System and the System of Sacrifice -On Sakaguchi Ango's Criticism of the System Emperor-
In this article,I try to interpret Sakaguchi Ango's criticism of the Imperial System from the view point of R. Girard's theory of the system of Sacrifice. I emphasize that in Darakuron and Zoku Darakuron at least, Ango criticized the Imperial System and the Japanese nation that supported it, not the Emperor himself. I think he makes virtually no reference to the Emperor himself. Girard's theory helps us to understand that the Imperial System and the system of sacrifice have an important point in common on the one hand.and to appreciate the uniqueness of the Imperial System on the other hand
