No full textThe article is aimed at studying the role of the concept as an element of the conceptual sphere and its influence on the formation of the linguistic worldview.The article examines the various types of text compression and their application in the context of scientific and technical literature where the presentation of information in an optimal manner is of paramount importance. Text compression is a tool that facilitates concise presentation and information optimization, enabling the communication of complex ideas with clarity and efficiency. The article examines the various types of text compression, including lexical, syntactic, and structural methods, and considers the distinct advantages that each offers for the presentation of scientific and technical texts.Lexical compression is a technique that reduces redundancy by eliminating repetitive language elements and using synonyms or antonyms. This approach allows for a concise presentation of information without compromising its accuracy. This approach is of particular importance in the context of scientific literature where each term must convey a precise meaning. Syntactic compression entails restructuring complex sentences, frequently shifting from the passive to the active voice, to enhance readability and reduce the cognitive load on readers. Structural compression is concerned with the logical and compact organization of text, to highlight key points while minimizing superfluous detail. The article examines the application of these compression techniques in scientific and technical literature, where the abundance of data and intricate language necessitate strategies to effectively distill content. The application of compression techniques in these fields not only conserves space but also improves comprehension and accessibility, which are of paramount importance in an era of information overload. By employing various compression techniques, authors can optimize their texts to ensure that essential insights and findings are presented in a concise, digestible format that aligns with professional standards.Consequently, text compression, through its diverse types and applications, enhances the quality of scientific and technical literature by balancing conciseness with information integrity, ultimately supporting clearer and more efficient knowledge transfer.Стаття спрямована на дослідження ролі концепту як елемента концептосфери та його впливу на формування мовної картини світу. У статті розглядаються різні типи стиснення тексту та їх застосування в контексті наукової та технічної літератури, де представлення інформації в оптимальний спосіб має першочергове значення. Стиснення тексту – це інструмент, який сприяє стислому представленню та оптимізації інформації, дозволяючи чітко та ефективно передавати складні ідеї. У статті розглядаються різні типи стиснення тексту, включаючи лексичні, синтаксичні та структурні методи, а також розглядаються відмінні переваги, які кожен пропонує для представлення наукових і технічних текстів. Лексичне стиснення – це техніка, яка зменшує надмірність шляхом усунення повторюваних елементів мови та використання синонімів чи антонімів. Такий підхід дозволяє стисло подати інформацію без шкоди для її точності. Цей підхід особливо важливий у контексті наукової літератури, де важливо, щоб кожен термін передавав точне значення. Синтаксичне стиснення передбачає реструктуризацію складних речень із частим переходом від пасивного стану до активного з метою покращення читабельності та зменшення когнітивного навантаження на читачів. Структурне стиснення пов’язане з логічною та компактною організацією тексту з метою виділення ключових моментів і мінімізації зайвих деталей.У статті розглядається використання методів стиснення в науковій і технічній літературі, де велика кількість даних і складна мова вимагають стратегій для ефективної дистиляції вмісту. Застосування методів стиснення в цих видах літератури не тільки зберігає простір, але й покращує розуміння та доступність, що є надзвичайно важливим в епоху перевантаження інформацією. Full text linkWhen teaching English to students of philology, teachers often face the problem of explaining the differences between Standard British English and American English, especially when using Internet resources, films, TV series, etc. in the classroom. American English isincreasingly penetrating various spheres of our lives – economic and international relations, business, trade, and most of all, entertainment. Therefore, it is necessary for students of philology to distinguish between the phonetic, grammatical and lexical features of British and American English, and the most productive way to do this is to use the material of television series popular among young people, such as “Riverdale”. Thus, the aim of the study is to teach philology students the phonetic and lexical and grammatical features of American English on the basis of the modern American television series based on the characters of Archie Comics “Riverdale”. Using the TV series to learn American variant of the English language allowed us not only to increase students’ vocabulary, learn fixed phrases and collocations, phrase construction and peculiarities of American English vocabulary, but also to immerse yourself in the language environment of American culture, learn slang and Americanisms that are not present in the standard version of British English. As a result of the study of the speech of the characters of the television series “Riverdale”, the main phonetic differences between the British pronunciation (Received Pronunciation) and the standard American pronunciation (General American) were outlined. In addition, the main grammatical and lexical features between Standard British English and American English were considered. Particular attention is paid to the characters of the TV series, the peculiarities of their speech and the description of people’s lives in a small American town.Під час викладання англійської мови для студентів-філологів викладачі дуже часто стикаються з проблемою пояснення відмінностей між стандартним варіантом британської англійської (Standard British English) та американським варіантом англійської(American English), особливо під час використання на заняттях інтернет-ресурсів, фільмів, телесеріалів тощо. Американська англійська все частіше проникає в різноманітні сфери нашого життя – економічні та міжнародні відносини, бізнес, торгівлю і найбільше у сферу розваг. Тому для студентів філологів є необхідним розрізняти фонетичні, граматичні та лексичні особливості британської та американської англійської, і найпродуктивніше це зробити на матеріалі популярних серед молоді телесеріалів, як-от «Рівердейл» («Riverdale»).Таким чином, метою дослідження є навчання студентів-філологів фонетичним та лексико-граматичним особливостям американського варіанта англійської мови на матеріалі сучасного американського телесеріалу «Рівердейл» («Riverdale»). Використання американського серіалу задля вивчення американського варіанта англійської мови дозволяє не тільки збільшити словниковий запас студентів, вивчити стійкі вирази, побудову фраз та особливості лексики американської англійської, а й зануритися в мовне середовище американської культури, вивчити сленг та американізми, які відсутні у стандартному варіанті британської англійської.В результаті спільного перегляду телесеріалу «Рівердейл» («Riverdale») та дослідженню мовлення персонажів окреслено основні фонетичні відмінності між британською вимовою (Received Pronunciation) та стандартною американською вимовою (General American). До того ж розглянуто основні граматичні та лексичні особливості між британським варіантом англійської (Standard British English) та американським варіантом (American English). Full text linkThis article deals with translatory peculiarities of given names in T. Pratchett’s works, specifically in the “Hogfather” novel and its translation in Ukrainian rendered by A. Konyk. The main goal of this article is to define the translatory peculiarities and methods, used byA. Konyk to deliver the contents and range of meanings of a name to the Ukrainian reader. T. Pratchett’s works gained extensive academic interest only in the last ten years, mainly from the scholars conducting literature studies. In this article, we analyze the methods A. Konykuses to translate the names of the main characters in comparison with the original text. A direct comparison allows one to define specific methods used by the translator to deliver the content hidden in each name and the extent of possible meanings delivered in the translation.The names of characters may carry out many functions and bear important significance in terms of humour and parody. Some of the functions of a name may include characteristic, descriptive, narrative, or humorous functions. To translate such names, A. Konyk uses transcoding, functional replacement, and adaptation of names. Each translation method allows the translator to adapt names in different ways, at the same time maintaining a certain level of correspondence between the English original and Ukrainian variant. While some methods allow to preservation of the form or the meaning of a name, others partially fail to deliver the meaning hidden between specific nominative units. Nevertheless, a proper choice of functional equivalent or replacement allows one to compensate for the changes.У статті розглядаються перекладацькі особливості власних імен у творчості Т. Пратчетта, зокрема у творі «Батько Вепр» та його перекладі українською мовою за авторством А. Коник. Головною метою дослідження є визначення особливостей перекладу та методів, вжитих А. Коник для передачі змісту та палітри значень імен україномовному читачу. Адже роботами Т. Пратчетта академіки широко зацікавилися лише протягом останніх десяти років, здебільшого з точки зори літературних студій. У цій статтіз перекладацького погляду аналізуються методи, вжиті А. Коник для перекладу імен порівняно з оригінальним текстом. Пряме порівняння оригінальних імен та перекладу дозволяє визначити певні методи, що їх вживає перекладачка для передачі змісту таспектра різноманітних значень, закладених у кожне ім’я. Імена персонажів виконують різні функції та вкрай важливі для передачі гумору та пародії. Серед деяких функцій імені можуть бути характеристична, описова, наративна чи гумористична функції. Дляперекладу таких імен А. Коник користується засобами транскодування, функціональної заміни та адаптації. Кожен метод перекладу дозволяє перекладачці адаптувати імена різним шляхом, водночас зберігаючи певний рівень відповідності між англійським оригі-налом та українським перекладом. Хоча деякі з цих методів дозволяють зберегти форму чи значення імені, інші є неідеальними та частково не передають значення, закладені в окремі номінативні одиниці. Втім, доцільний підбір коректного еквівалента дозволяєкомпенсувати виконані зміни

Portrait description is represented as a production object of linguistic research. The focus is placed on the author’s individual style, as very often it is the key to understanding the choices for portrait descriptions. Public interest to S. Maugham’s works has always been high due to the relevance of his ideas, thoughts and attitudes. This article is dedicated particularly to portraits, as they shed light on what the other prioritizes in his characters.У статті досліджуються деякі типи та функції портретних описів головних героїв роману С. Моема «Розмальована завіса». Портретний опис представлено продуктивним об’єктом лінгвістичного дослідження. Акцент зроблено на індивідуальному стилі автора, оскільки саме він найчастіше постає ключем до розуміння вибору портретних описів. Публічний інтерес до творів С. Моема завжди був високим через актуальність його ідей, думок і позицій. Ця стаття присвячена портретам, оскільки вони проливають світло на те, що саме є пріоритетом в його персонажах

Full text linkThis article provides a comprehensive linguistic and stylistic analysis of Yasmin Rahman’s “Why Is Nobody Laughing?” This study investigates the theoretical concept of the artistic text along with its primary characteristics; it provides a detailed characterization of the term “linguistics”; it explores the essence of linguistic stylistic analysis of the text and its unique applications; and it describes the functioning of vocabulary within Yasmin Rahman’s work “Why Is Nobody Laughing?”The findings can be utilized in further studies of Yasmin Rahman’s work, as well as in courses covering stylistics, linguistic studies, and literary analysis of the primary language.Стаття містить комплексний лінгвістичний і стилістичний аналіз твору Ясмін Рахман «Чому ніхто не сміється?». Досліджується теоретичне поняття художнього тексту разом з його основними характеристиками; дається детальна характеристика терміна«лінгвістика»; досліджується сутність лінгвостилістичного аналізу тексту та його унікальні застосування; описується функціонування лексики у творі Ясмін Рахман «Чому ніхто не сміється?».Отримані результати можна використати в подальших дослідженнях творчості Ясмін Рахман, а також при викладанні стилістики, лінгвістики та літературного аналізу англійської мови

It unveils key concepts essential for a deeper understanding of his literary method, particularly the stylistic devices that give his texts their unique resonance. Special attention is paid to the use of metaphors, irony, allegory, and other artistic techniques through which O. Henry creates the distinctive atmosphere of his stories reveals the characters’ personalities, and conveys internal conflict. The study explores the influence of the social context on O. Henry’s work, examining how his style reflects the spirit of the time, especially the societal changes in America at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The article also considers how the author, through his works, sheds light on social trends, inequality, and human relationships, making his stories not only literary masterpieces but also historical testimonies of the era. Ultimately, the article demonstrates the multifaceted nature of O. Full text linkPre-election discourse is one of the key components of political communication, playing a crucial role in shaping public opinion, mobilizing the electorate, and establishing the identity of political parties. In democracies such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, election campaigns are an important element of public life, where sociolinguistic features are used to achieve political goals, strengthen candidates’ positions, and influence voters’ decisions. The language chosen by politicians in their speeches, debates, and appeals to voters reflects the socio-cultural context and national traditions of each country.A comparative analysis of the election discourse of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada reveals commonalities and differences in the use of language, persuasive strategies, and the reflection of social and political realities in the speech of political actorsin these countries. The study of the peculiarities of discourse in the three English-speaking democracies is relevant for understanding the influence of social factors on voting behavior and the mechanisms of interaction between political rhetoric and public sentiment.Election discourse is an important component of political communication in democratic countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. It reflects not only the political positions and programs of candidates but also the socio-cultural characteristicsof society, as well as the language strategies used to influence voters. The peculiarities of the election discourse vary depending on the national traditions, political system, and sociolinguistic conditions of each country.This research is devoted to the analysis of key sociolinguistic features of election communication in three English-speaking countries – the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The study aims to identify similarities and differences in the strategies of verbal interaction between candidates and voters, as well as to analyze the language used to build a political image and mobilize the electorate. Attention will be paid to such aspects as the role of rhetoric, the use of identities and social markers, and the influence of the media on the formation of discourse.Передвиборчий дискурс є одним з ключових складників політичного спілкування, що відіграє вирішальну роль у формуванні громадської думки, мобілізації електорату та встановленні ідентичності політичних партій. У демократичних країнах, таких як США, Великобританія та Канада, передвиборчі кампанії є важливим елементом суспільного життя, де соціолінгвістичні особливості використовуються для досягнення політичних цілей, зміцнення позицій кандидатів та впливу на рішення виборців. Мова, яку обирають політики під час своїх виступів, дебатів і звернень до виборців, відображає соціокультурний контекст і національні традиції кожної країни.Компаративний аналіз передвиборчого дискурсу США, Великобританії та Канади дозволяє виявити спільні риси та відмінності у використанні мовних засобів, стратегій переконання, а також у відображенні соціальних та політичних реалій у мовленні політичних акторів цих країн. Вивчення особливостей дискурсу в трьох англомовних демо-кратіях є актуальним для розуміння впливу соціальних факторів на виборчу поведінку та механізми взаємодії політичної риторики з суспільними настроями.Передвиборчий дискурс є важливим складником політичної комунікації в демократичних країнах, таких як США, Великобританія та Канада. Full text linkThis article explores the concept of idiolect in modern linguistics and its manifestation in youth language, with a particular focus on Donna Tartt’s novel “The Secret History”. The paper examines key theoretical approaches to defining idiolect, emphasizing its cognitive, pragmatic, and sociocultural dimensions. The analysis of youth language highlights the use of slang, colloquialisms, repetitions, contractions, and other stylistic devices that underscore the individuality of characters and their social surroundings. Special attention is paid to the role of cultural and social factors in shaping idiolect, as well as how linguistic choices contribute to the creation of narrative space and enhance the reader’s perception of the text. The study demonstrates the importance of idiolect as a linguistic category that reflects individual speech patterns shaped by both internal cognitive processes and external sociocultural influences. Examples from the novel illustrate the complexity and multidimensionality of idiolect, making characters’ speech vivid and authentic.У статті досліджується концепція ідіолекту в сучасній лінгвістиці та її вияв у мовленні молоді, зокрема на прикладі роману Д. Тартт «Таємна історія». Розглядаються основні теоретичні підходи до визначення ідіолекту, його когнітивні, прагматичні та соціокультурні аспекти. Аналіз ідіолекту в молодіжній мові акцентується на використанні сленгу, жаргонізмів, повторів, скорочень та інших стилістичних прийомів, які підкреслюють індивідуальність персонажів та їхнє соціальне оточення. Особлива увага приділяється ролі культурних та соціальних факторів у формуванні ідіолекту, а також впливу мовних виборів на створення художнього простору та глибинного сприйняття тексту читачем. Дослідження вказує на важливість ідіолекту як лінгвістичної категорії, що відображає індивідуальну мовленнєву поведінку, яка формується під впливом як внутрішніх когнітивних процесів, так і зовнішніх соціокультурних умов. ДІАЛЕКТ ПОТТЕРІС, ЙОГО ІСТОРИЧНИЙ РОЗВИТОК ТА ФОНЕТИЧНІ ОСОБЛИВОСТІ
Full text linkThe article deals with the problem of researching the linguistic features of the English language rare dialects, e. g. uthe Potteris dialect. The purpose of the article is to give a brief overview of the historical development of the dialect and to analyse its brightest phoneticfeatures. The Potteris dialect belongs to the group of West English dialects in the territory of Staffordshire County. Like most local dialects of the English language, the Potteris dialect comes from the Anglo-Saxon Old English language. The Anglo-Saxon poem of the 14th century “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” uses certain dialect words that are native to the Potteris dialect. The first documented case of the Potteris dialect was made in 1843. It is believed that the wider a dialect, the coarser and stronger is the product which its speakers make. The existence of the Potteris dialect in its former territories of distribution is doubtful, it is moderately disappearing. Speakers of the dialect are getting used to the common pronunciation and less often use dialectisms in oral speech. Using ancient manuscripts, scholars analyze the pronunciation of many words, since they were quite often written phonetically, letter by letter. Among the common phonetic features, several features have been highlighted, for example. the absence of the nasal phoneme /ŋ/, uncertainty about the use of the sound / h/, the split of the Middle English long / uː /, etc. To trace the changes in the Potteris dialect, numerous attempts have been made to record the conversation. Thus, the Potteris dialect, both in its name and essence, is determined by the professional affiliation of its speakers. Although it can now be said that it is gradually disappearing, its influence can be traced both in fiction and in scientific works. We see the prospect of the research in the study of lexical and grammatical features of the studied dialect.У статті в загальному вигляді поставлена проблема дослідження лінгвістичних особливостей малопоширених діалектів англійської мови на прикладі діалекту поттеріс. Метою дослідження є короткий огляд історичного розвитку діалекту поттеріс та аналіз його фонетичних особливостей. Говірка гончарів – поттеріс належить до групи західноанглійських діалектів на території Стаффордширського графства. Як і більшість діалектів англійської мови, гончарний діалект походить від англосаксонської староанглійської мови. В англосаксонській поемі ХІV століття «Сер Гавейн та Зелений лицар» використовуються діалектні слова, що є рідними для діалекту поттеріс. Перший задокументований випадок діалекту поттеріс був зроблений у 1843 р. Вважають, що в шести містах гончарів чим ширше був діалект, тим грубіше та міцніше був продукт, який вони виготовляли. Сумнівним є існування діалекту поттеріс на його колишніх територіях поширення, він помірно зникає. Носії діалекту звикають до загальної вимови та рідше використовують діалектизми в усному мовленні. Використовуючи давні рукописи, науковці аналізують вимову багатьох слів, оскільки вони досить часто записувалися фонетично, буква за буквою. Серед загальних фонетичних особливостей виділено декілька рис, наприклад: відсутність назальної фонеми /ŋ/, невизначеність щодо використання звука /h/, розкол середньоанглійської довгої /uː/ тощо.
