    The implementation of augmented reality on the Internet of Things for virtual learning in higher education

    Purpose–This article investigates the potential of augmented reality (AR) for virtual learning in higher education. This review discusses the advantages as well as disadvantages of virtual learning, as well as the advantages and functions of augmented reality in digital literacy on innovative education. With the launch of electronic literacy about two years ago during the COVID-19 epidemic, considerable changes in literacy and tuition methods in higher education have previously occurred. It has become clear that virtual literacy issues thereafter worse than actual literacy issues. To meet the needs of today's scholars and establish novel tutoring approaches, educational institutions must implement new literacy technology, such as augmented reality. By implementing nascent literacy technology, this investigation hopes to lead to a better comprehension of stoked reality in virtual literacy for advanced education researchers. Method–The goal of this essay is to investigatethe use of augmented reality in higher education for virtual learning. The moderate category of this technology will also be investigated. Head-mounted displays are occasionally used in conjunction with real-world environments or props, such as when simulating takeoff on a motion platform; however, augmented reality makes reading and teaching methods far more accessible.Results–Similarly, a use case was created to demonstrate the student journey using stoked reality software on the mobile device to fantasize, comprehend, and make learning more accessible for students to engage with their environment. Conclusion–Augmented reality has the potential to identify educational surroundings as far more accurate, acceptable, more unifying than digital illiteracy. Increased reality technology affects literacy and the higher education system. It possesses the possibility of increasing the approachability and accessibility of literacy sources in team and personal study. Recommendations–To successfully integrate augmented reality into the Internet of Things for virtual learning in higher education, organizations need to put a high priority on staff development, make significant infrastructure investments, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration. Practical Implications–Higher education institutions should prioritize data security and ethical issues while simultaneously investing in faculty development and AR-IoT infrastructure

    The importance of the frailty effect in survival models : for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis data

    Frailty models have been proposed to analyse survival data, considering unobserved covariates (frailty effects). In a shared frailty model, frailties are common (or shared) amongst groups of individuals and are randomly distributed across groups. Objective: In this paper, the authors compared the semi-parametric model to shared frailty models by studying the time-to-death of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Methods: Secondary data from 1 542 multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients were used in this study. STATA software was used to analyse frailty models via the streg command. Results: Of 1 542 patients diagnosed with MDR-TB, 245 (15.9%) died during the study period; 77 (5.0%) had treatment failure; 334 (21.7%) defaulted; 213 (13.8%) completed treatment; 651 (42.2%) were cured of MRD-TB; and 22 (1.4%) were transferred out. The results showed that 797 (51.7%) were females, and the majority were aged 18 – 30 and 31 – 40 years (35.5% and 35.7% respectively). Most of the patients (71.3%) were HIV-positive. The results also showed that most patients (95.7%) had no previous MDR-TB episodes, and 792 (51.4%) had no co-morbidities. The estimate of the variance for the frailty term in the Weibull gamma shared frailty model was 2.83, which is relatively large and therefore suggests the existence of heterogeneity. Conclusion: The Laplace transform of the frailty distribution plays a central role in relating the hazards, conditional on the frailty, to the hazards and survival functions observed in a population. </jats:sec

    Transforming learning : reimagining writing centre tutor training in a university context

    Tutors in the higher education environment play an important role in facilitating student learning. However, they are often inadequately supported in the contexts in which they work. Tutors often require support through structured training and development programmes that embeds theory and practice to equip them with the powerful knowledge needed in their work with students. A re-examination of the support, training and development of tutors is therefore needed. This paper explored a Writing Centre tutor training progamme within a University of Technology (UoT) context. An academics literacies approach to tutor training has been implemented as it enables the creation of opportunities for students and tutors to question the ways in which they are working with knowledge and demonstrating that knowledge through their writing. Through tutors’ narrative, written reflections and within a qualitative inquiry, this paper explored theory based tutor training and how it contributes to a more responsive Writing Centre practice by developing tutors’ undertsanding of their role in transforming thinking, teaching and learning. It argues for the implementation of on-going, structured and theoretically embedded training that foregrounds Writing Centre pedagogy and creates a foundation for tutors’ cognitive development in their work with students

    The dynamics of customer value and brand love among shoppers in emerging market

    This study examines customer value, trust, psychological ownership, satisfaction, and brand love among customers of shopping malls. This study employed a quantitative research design. An online questionnaire was used to elicited data from 484 Ghanaian shopping mall customers in Accra, using convenient sampling. Seven hypotheses were developed and tested using structural equation modelling (SEM). The study finds that utilitarian and social values predict trust, while trust influences psychological ownership. Additionally, psychological ownership influences satisfaction and brand love, while satisfaction affects brand love. The study’s value rests in introducing relatively new constructs, such as psychological ownership and brand love to understand how customer value can be achieved, especially from a developing country’s context, where there is a paucity of such studies

    Examining the Impact of sports sponsorship on fan attitude and purchase intentions towards sponsors' products in professional football : a study of the Ghanaian fan base

    This paper investigates the mediating role of fans' attitudes in the relationship between sports sponsorship and the purchase intention of Ghanaian football fans. Survey data were collected from 398 official supporter groups of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC (Circles) and Accra Hearts of Oak SC (Chapters) using a purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was utilized to gather the data. The study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to validate the model. The results indicate that sponsorship significantly influences purchase intention and fans' attitudes. Furthermore, the findings demonstrate that fan attitude mediates the relationship between sponsorship and purchase intention. These findings suggest that sponsorship plays a significant role in improving the purchase intention of football fans, and the impact of sponsorship on purchase intention is strengthened by fans' attitudes. Overall, this study enhances our understanding of the complex dynamics between sponsorship, fans' attitude, and purchasing intention, particularly in the context of Ghanaian football fans. While the study provides useful findings for industrial players and practitioners, it is essential to acknowledge that this study relied on cross-sectional survey data, which limits our ability to establish causal relationships. Additionally, the current study focused specifically on soccer fans of only two Clubs in Ghana, which may restrict the generalizability of the findings to fans of other teams or sports, limiting the applicability of the study's results to a broader context.</jats:p

The goal of this research is to provide recommendations for enhancing service quality, ensuring data security, and reducing wait times across various industries that utilize virtual queuing systems.     A review of the implications of polyethylene plastics when utilized as chemical storage tanks

    Many studies have been conducted to investigate the impact or influence of polyethylene (PE) plastic when used as chemical liquid storage. Herein, this literature addresses the factors that contribute to the degradation of chemical storage tanks as a result of PE plastics and how they can be mitigated. This is achieved by reviewing and discussing the significant properties of High-density polyethylene (HDPE), which have been reported to degrade the chemicals stored in these storage tanks. The method of cross-linking the PE was reviewed with its preceding processes that involve chemical and physical processes. The influence of each agent on the resulting properties is discussed in detail including the effect of cross-linking degree. These methods were found to be significant in improving some of the properties of HDPE to better store chemical substances. Nonetheless, it was established that the main concern of PE plastics is environmental stress cracking (ESC), which causes unexpected cracks within the HDPE storage tanks, thus degrading the substance contained. The currently used method or test (bentstrip) to determine the resistance of PE to ESC and techniques used to monitor it were reviewed and discussed in detail. Consequently, the literature suggests that the relationship between the density of PE and its ESC susceptibility has been found to be significant. However, research has shown that relying solely on density as a predictor of ESC in PE when exposed to chemical substances is insufficient, and further studies should be conducted to investigate other parameters that contribute to ESC in PE. In addition, the review suggests that future research should focus on studying ESC resistance of newly developed Nano-filled PE composites or biodegradable PE variants, as these are future materials for storing chemical substances conveniently

The need for an information system that affords intelligent and valuable insights is a potential upshot to targeting some of the challenges of the current global transformation. In the healthcare sector, an integrated information system that is salient in augmenting and enabling healthcare is highly demanded. Thus, a sustainable and resilient Health Information System (HIS) for quality health care applications in the healthcare space is paramount. This premise is substantiated by the need for real-time elucidations from an information system like the HIS that is transient between time and space to enable healthcare applications for all healthcare stakeholders. However, the current HIS has been posited in extant literature to be flawed in affording enhanced healthcare. Accordingly, deploying HIS practically has been challenging with isolated stakeholders' involvement. Although HIS is inadequate, it still maintains a firm position in the healthcare systems. The WHO acknowledges its disposition as a core enabling constituent of healthcare and a vital tool to realise pressing healthcare agendas. Extant literature further asserts the potential of HIS in realising the sustainable development goal related to health and well-being. Recognising the value and benefits of HIS necessitates harnessing technological advancement to augment its capabilities and leverage its weaknesses. Thus, this thesis investigates the HIS for heathcare applications via a data-driven paradigm with maximum inferences to the stakeholders within the healthcare arena. This thesis pinpoints and constructs the development of sustainable and resilient HIS from a data-driven angle as necessary for healthcare augmentation. The thesis uses a research methodology that traversed the study's main aim at the intersection of design science research and data sciences in conjunction with a sociotechnological concept to afford a resilient and sustainable HIS for health care applications. To uncover the knowledge-creation capabilities of health data within the HIS environment and revolutionise healthcare. Additionally, it highlights data science techniques that have been deployed in the health arena for health care applications. The thesis also illustrates the importance of data sciences serialisation and its implementation within the healthcare arena. This study develops a novel framework for HIS for healthcare that takes advantage of data to provide a resolution to counter the challenges experience with their deployment and utilisation. The concerns of HIS juxtaposition that have resulted in inadequate healthcare and impermanence among stakeholders are also considered in this thesis. The proposed framework integrates the socio-technical stance in the face of digitalisation and globalisation. The thesis’ findings stem from a deeper delve into extant literature to substantiate the knowledge, constraints, and perception of HIS deliverables. In the course of this study, the performance of HIS and health care applications was uncovered from the analysis of the extant body of gen on healthcare to highlight the significance of HIS within the healthcare space. The findings substantiated the value of HIS and unveiled its untapped benefits to the healthcare arena. It also highlights an overview of the existing HIS framework, which established the datadriven paradigm for HIS sustainability and resiliency. It further discusses data sources, actions and decisions within the healthcare arena. Demonstrating a pragmatic application of generated insights from data sciences techniques urgently needed to transmute the healthcare systems and respond to its associated dares. A practical enactment of this efficient and effective holistic model framework that incorporates data sciences to attain a robust, resilient and sustainable HIS for health care applications is envisioned to benefit healthcare stakeholders significantly. In addition, deploying and implementing the proposed framework would benefit the global healthcare stakeholders to attain its goal of universal healthcare coverage at a minimal cost.

    Automotive component manufacturers face global competitive challenges, and the paradigm has shifted from product price as the determining factor of competitiveness to the quality of the product. An automotive component manufacturer was struggling to manage the outflow of defects, and adding inspectors as quality gates to the rear-step bumper production line had severe cost implications. This study aimed to reduce the number of defects by deploying a strategic path of implementing built-in quality.
