    Data generation was done for scat samples of Asiatic wild odg collected from field using codominant microsatellite markers. Post amplification, 2 μl of PCR product was mixed with HiDi formamide and LIZ 500 size standard and genotyped in an ABI genetic analyzer. The fragment lengths were scored manually using the program GENEMARKER (Softgenetics Inc., Pennsylvania, 196 Unites States). Each reaction was repeated three times to ensure good data quality.     Two 15cm deep, 2cm wide soil cores were collected from opposite sides of each tube (5cm away) and mixed. Each sample was placed in a tin container with a perforated bottom and placed in a shallow water bath just deep enough for the soil to wick water up into the soil and saturate it. Saturated and oven dried weights were used to calculate how much water each sample could hold. This was relativized to the dry mass of the soil
