The detailed field survey data of the samples
hree plots with typical characteristics in the late stage of the natural secondary changed series were arranged, i.e., Plot I for P. tabulaeformis forests; Plot II for Pinus+Quercus mixed forests; Plot III for Q. wutaishansea forests. Each forest was sampled on both a southern slope and a northern slope (with a due east-due west line as the boundary, the slope at the southern boundary is the sunny slope and the slope at the northern boundary is the shaded slope). With a canopy density of approximately 0.8 based on the adjacent gridding method, the plot was divided into 25 20 m × 20 m small plots. In each small plot, the coordinates (x and y), diameter at breast height in 1.3m (DBH), height (h), and the crown width of adult trees (DBH >3 cm) were measured (Table 1). In addition, 5 2 × 2 m2 bush quadrats and 5 1 × 1 m2 plant quadrats (1 m × 1 m) were respectively arranged at the four corners and at the center of the subplot

DNA polymorphism of the FePG1 genomic region in ‘KSC7’ (long homostyle). (A) Gene structure of FePG1 of ‘KSC7’. ‘KSC7’ has a 692-bp insertion in the 3rd exon. Black boxes, exons; bars, introns. (B) DNA polymorphism at the insertion region detected by agarose gel electrophoresis. P, pin; T, thrum; LH, long homostyle; SH, short homostyl

Carbon Components in Mountain Forests in Colombia
20 permanent plots of 0.25-ha (50 m x 50 m) were established along the elevational gradient following Feeley et al. (2011) (Table S1; Fig. S1). The plots were distributed across ten elevational sections, each with a range of 250 m asl. The average horizontal distance between plots was 6.48 km (median: 5.72 km; range: 0.29-17.4 km). Within each plot, we measured, mapped and tagged all trees and palms ≥10 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) following standardized methods for long-term tropical forest dynamics plots (Condit 1998). In the case of tree species with buttresses, diameter was measured 50 cm above them. In all cases, the DBH point was painted and measured with diameter tape calibrated to one millimeter. We excluded arborescent ferns and lianas. Total height (H, in m) was measured on 40 percent of the individuals within each plot, using either a telescopic Hastings fiberglass rod (H <15 m) or a Nikon laser 550 electronic hypsometer (H ≥15 m)
