Sustainability in Healthcare Towards 2030 Poster for Australian Nursing and Midwifery Conference 2021.pdf
In 1992 the United Nations (UN), governments and major parties set an agenda for sustainable development at the ‘Earth Summit’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil known as Agenda 21 to guide sustainable development globally into the 21st century. Subsequently this led to the development of the UN Commission for Sustainable Development and in 2015 the adoption of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals for achievement in 2030 by all member states. Almost 30 years have passed since the Earth Summit and the world is tracking negatively in many of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The impact of coronavirus has reversed the progress made and has exacerbated inequalities within and between countries (UN, 2020). The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that there will be an estimated 250,000 additional deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress due to climate change from 2030 (WHO, 2018). This poster aims to inform individuals, leaders and policymakers in the health sector of the Unsustainable Development Goals. Innovative and proactive strategies on how to adapt to this challenge based on research and evidence through environmental stewardship and healthy hospital initiatives can promote awareness and sustainable practices in the health sector. Ensuring there is the capacity to respond to extreme weather events through disaster planning and improved partnerships will be emphasised. References: United Nations. (2020). Watch Out for \u27Jack\u27, he\u27s a Real Challenge
Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) is a cluster of conditions that are the result of prenatal exposure to alcohol. Children with FASD may have noticeable facial features as well as intellectual, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Providing a loving, structured and supervised learning environment has significant positive impacts on the development of a child with FASD. A teacher can assist a student with special needs in reaching their full potential, through establishing an effective individualized learning plan and building strong relationships with the child and guardian
Leadership in Christian Early Childhood Education: A Grounded Theory
Despite the increasing proliferation of Christian early childhood education and care centres for pre-school aged children in Australia and internationally, it would appear that the Christian aspect of the leadership and management of these centres has not been thoroughly investigated. This research project explored the beliefs, values and practices of four leaders of Christian early childhood education and care centres in New South Wales, Australia from four different denominational groups. Using the tools of grounded theory in a three-round hermeneutic dialectic interview process, the leaders’ perceptions of the integration of Christian faith into their practice was examined. The results uncovered a deep individual commitment to a God-centred approach in all areas of their daily practice. The leaders’ faith relationship with God, led them to a dynamic worldview that compelled and empowered them to relate to children, staff, families and their communities in a loving, holistic, compassionate, respectful and supportive manner. The detailed results of the findings are presented as case studies, with the subsequent analysis leading to the development of a grounded theory of Christian early childhood education leadership
Avondale scholarship boosted: Encyclopedia increases research profile
Articles written by Avondale academics for the new Encyclopedia of Seventh-day Adventists (ESDA) will signficantly increase the university college\u27s institutional research profile this year. The publication record addition largely thanks to regional editor and conjoint associate professor Dr Barry Oliver, who ensured the peer-reviewed articles qualified for reporting as part of Avondale\u27s University College\u27s Research Data Collection
Forms, Foci, and Forces - The Need for Overseas Pre-service Teacher Professional Experiences
This article represents the first analytic foray into a “narrative inquiry” that focused on collecting data centered on understanding the impact of an overseas professional teaching experience on 20 pre-service teachers
