Two Surprising Things about Tithing
No full textA study involving the analysis of tithe receipts and collection of survey data from Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States revealed the somewhat surprising result that in some countries there is a small negative correlation between the motive of tithing so as to receive a blessing from God and actual tithing practice. In other words, the more an individual agreed with statement such as, “I contribute tithe because God promises prosperity to those who tithe,” thereby expressing a desire to tithe because they would receive a blessing from God, the less likely they were to do so. On the other hand, there was a strong positive correlation between a desire to tithe because of gratitude for what God had done for them and an individual actually tithing. Survey data also revealed that those who do tithe report that, “God has blessed me because I tithe.” The article also contains stories of where God has miraculously preserved tithers from such disasters as a locust plague, but also one story where a faithful tither was not protected from hail when their non-tithing neighbours were. After a brief theological reflection on these stories, the article concludes that gratitude for God’s goodness is a better motivator to encourage tithing than the promise of a blessing to those who do tithe

No full textThe Liao An Mission (辽安区会) was organized in 1918 as part of the Manchurian Mission. Its territory covered the Liaoning Province. Mission headquarters were located in Mukden (now Shenyang 沈阳). For the first decade it was named the Fengtien Mission. In 1929 the name was changed to the Liaoning Mission, but in 1933 it reverted to Fengtien Mission. It was known as the South Manchuria Mission throughout the Second World War. The ACLM Lift Project—Caring for the Carers
No full textThe mental health and wellbeing of health care workers has been uniquely challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Health care organizations may support the mental health of their members by offering tailored, evidence-based interventions and initiatives. METHODS: The American College of Lifestyle Medicine offered its members an online, 10-week, multicomponent mental health and well-being program (The Lift Project) for free, and extended the invitation to members from sister organizations associated with the Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance. Individuals (n=1785) representing 39 countries registered for the program. Website meta-data was used to explore participant’ engagement with the program. One hundred forty-five participants responded to a post-program questionnaire that included Likert items and open-ended questions. RESULTS: The website hosting the program recorded 9,815 total visits over 10 weeks. Ninety-one percent of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the program supported their mental wellbeing, and there was a significant increase (X2=80.8, p\u3c 0.01) in the proportion of respondents who rated their wellbeing higher after the program compared to at the start of the program. Ninety percent of respondents indicated that the program would have a long-term positive influence on their mental wellbeing, and 94% indicated they would recommend the program to a friend. Dominant themes from the open-ended questions in the post-program evaluation included: the participants liked the style of the video presentations, the structure of the program, content covered and the practical application of the content; the participants would have liked more time to engage with the program and would have enjoyed the provision of group meetings. CONCLUSION: Health care organizations may play an important role in supporting their members’ mental health and wellbeing by offering large-scale, evidence-based interventions. To optimize efficacy, the interventions should be well-designed, engaging, and potentially provide the opportunity for group connection and interaction

Identifying and Delineating the Geographic Regions of the Israelite Migration from Egypt to Canaan Using a Hydrological Approach
No full textThe biblical books of Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy describe the Israelite migration from Egypt to Canaan. The narrative names many sites, roads, and regions, the majority of which have not been identified on the ground. This investigation proposes and develops an original hypothesis—that the biblical regions correspond to the major water catchments of the Sinai, Negev, and Transjordan. Accordingly, the three journeys—Goshen to Sinai, Sinai to Kadesh, and Kadesh to the Jordan—proceed across a patchwork of contiguous river systems and lake basins. The hydrological model for biblical regions provides clear watershed and riverbed boundaries for the wildernesses and national territories and explains their relationship to the geomorphic zones. By applying a hydrological structure to biblical geography, a comprehensive system emerges that is consistent with all indications, and allows the identification and delineation of previously unknown biblical regions

However, by 1980 a specific definition and description had been made. ODD is a serious juvenile mental health concern causing extreme distress to both parents and educators.
This paper has been written from a Christian perspective and describes the criteria for a diagnosis as well as its incidence. Research has been ongoing and a number of known links to the condition are detailed. The greater part of the paper focuses on effective, evidence-based strategies together with succinct summaries. These include teaming with parents, the school team, classroom structure and management, pedagogy and engagement, relating to the child and teacher well-being
