A Cost-effectiveness Model for a Decision to Adopt Temporary Single-patient Rooms to Reduce Risks of Healthcare-associated Infection in the Australian Public Healthcare System
No full textBackground The cost-effectiveness of patient isolation as part of an infection prevention effort is poorly understood. The potential to reduce risks of transmission saving costs and improving health outcomes is strong, yet up front investments in patient isolation are required. We report a cost-effectiveness model to inform adoption of a portable single isolation rooms into Australian publicly funded acute hospitals. Methods Information is harvested from a range of contemporary sources to reveal the expected changes to total costs and total health benefits measured by life years gain. An Incremental cost-effectiveness ratio is estimated with uncertainty in all model parameters included by probabilistic sensitivity analysis. Results The adoption decision was found to change total costs per 100,000 occupied bed-days by 3278. The probability an adoption decision is cost saving is 2.1%. Conclusion There is some evidence that adoption of rediroom is likely to be a cost-effective solution for Australian hospitals. Important caveats and assumptions need to be considered when interpreting this conclusion

The Sound of Music season comprised four performances. The first three performances were in the Chan Shun Auditorium at Avondale University over Graduation weekend 2022. The first performance (April 8) attracted an audience of over 700, the second performance (April 9) attracted an audience of over 800, and the third performance (April 10) attracted an audience of over 700. The fourth and final performance was part of the North New South Wales Seventh Day Adventist Annual Convention held at Stuarts Point Convention Centre and attracted an audience of approximately 1,500
Where to go for a Christian Research Degree [Part 1]
No full textAn institution’s support of higher degree research (HDR) candidates engages the supervisor/s and the candidate in a professional learning and teaching relationship, described as the pedagogy of supervision (Grant, 2005; Nulty, Kiley, & Meyer, 2009). Universities develop programs to support academic and research staff to supervise postgraduate candidates while also facilitating the learning of novice researchers and HDR candidates (Carton & Kelly, 2014; Carton, O’Farrell, & Kelly, 2013; Luca et al., 2013). In this mixed methods research project questionnaires and interviews were used to determine what is valued by current and past HDR candidates of Avondale and which areas of our HDR programs need further development. This is the first of two papers that report the findings of this project
Vectors of Change in Higher Education Curricula
No full textThe aim of this paper is to examine key change vectors shaping the undergraduate curriculum in the third decade of the twenty-first century. The paper begins by outlining selected definitions, foundational theories and conceptual frameworks underpinning this analysis of the undergraduate curriculum and its influences. Three key external forces shaping the undergraduate curriculum are examined: universalisation; national policy and legislative frameworks; and the influence of technology as disruptor and enabler. While some of these socio-political, economic and geopolitical forces are longstanding and familiar, a number of influential factors that have gained prominence in the last 10 years, including the disruptive influence of technology, new approaches to curriculum design in the form of micro-credentialing, and changing expectations of the undergraduate curriculum. The paper calls for a conceptually robust, long-term approach to examining the various factors shaping the undergraduate curriculum, with a particular focus on macro-level factors external to an institution. The paper concludes by considering policy and practical implications of these forces for the future shape and purpose of undergraduate curricula
