Nudging as a Support for Behavioral Change in Lifestyle Medicine
No full textThe practice of lifestyle medicine and its emphasis on behavioral change continues to grow around the world. Yet much of the burden of disease weighing on healthcare systems from chronic, modifiable conditions remains stubbornly present. From a behavior change perspective, efforts to date have primarily focused on public health messaging and public health campaigns (global approaches) to interventions such as health coaching (individual approaches). There exists an opportunity to consider contextual elements which support behavioral change. The practice of “nudging” behavior in primary care and allied health settings is proposed as a means of responding to these contextual opportunities. Nudging does not assure change; however, it can invite curiosity about change and small behavioral efforts in the direction of a desired change. Furthermore, its nature conserves autonomy and patient choice while inviting a health-creating behavior. As such, when considered and applied in the context of public health and individual treatment options, it creates a consistent milieu in which behavior change is facilitated
Implementing a Biblical Vision for Education: Challenges Facing Leaders from Primary Campuses of Christian Schools in Sydney, Australia
Get PDFThis article outlines the results of a recent study that investigated the challenges primary department leaders in Christian schools in Sydney are faced with as they seek to implement a biblical vision for education, along with strategies used to overcome the challenges.
Competing Priorities was found to be the central challenge facing Christian school leaders as they seek to implement a biblical vision for education. Others identified include: Governance Issues, Changed Parent Expectations, Commodification of Education, Dealing with Conflicts and Human Resource Management Issues.
With consideration of the challenges faced by Christian school leaders, the paper highlights a number of key strategies found in the study. These could be critically effective in assisting educators to help overcome the current problem facing Christian schools, that their ideologies are being challenged due to a rise in secularism in Australia, and assist them as they implement a biblical vision for education in their school. The results were displayed diagrammatically

“All was not well with the Soldiers’ Diet”: An Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Official Australian Imperial Force Food Provisions, 1914–18
No full textOfficial army rations were calculated to maintain the soldiers of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) of 1914-1918 in good fighting trim. This article systematically investigates for the first time this provisioning, evaluating its effectiveness in sustaining the soldiers as fighting men. Three key unresolved areas of research are explored: the debate over whether army provisioning was more diverse and balanced than popular impressions, the degree to which conclusions drawn about provisioning at Gallipoli can be applied across all the campaigns of the AIF, and comparisons with British army provisioning. It concludes that AIF rations were physiologically and emotionally inadequate throughout the war
