Word Intelligibility of Bone Conductive Sound When Wearing Ear Plugs
No full textIn this study, we measured and compared the word intelligibility of air conductive and bone conductive sound when wearing ear plugs in both ears by speech audiometry. The correct responses of word intelligibility of bone conductive sound tended to be better than those of sound heard through air conduction even in a high signal-to-noise environment. Roles of attachment and self-esteem: impact of early life stress on depressive symptoms among Japanese institutionalized children

Although exposure to early life stress is known to affect mental health, the underlying
mechanisms of its impacts on depressive symptoms among institutionalized children and
adolescents have been little studied.
Methods
To investigate the role of attachment and self-esteem in association with adverse childhood
experiences (ACEs) and depressive symptoms, 342 children (149 boys, 193 girls; age range
9-18 years old, mean age = 13.5 ± 2.4) living in residential foster care facilities in Japan
completed questionnaires related to internal working models, self-esteem, and depressive
symptoms. Their care workers completed questionnaires on ACEs.
Results
Structural equation modeling (SEM) was created and the goodness of fit was examined
(CMIN = 129.223, df = 1.360, GFI = .959, AGFI = .936, CFI = .939, RMSEA = .033).
Maltreatment negatively predicted scores on secure attachment, but positively predicted
scores on avoidant and ambivalent attachment. The secure attachment score negatively
predicted depressive symptoms. The ambivalent attachment score positively predicted
depressive symptoms both directly and through self-esteem, whereas the avoidant attachment
score positively predicted depressive symptoms only directly. Maltreatment neither directly
predicts self-esteem nor depressive symptoms, and parental illness/death and parental
sociopathic behaviors did not predict any variables.
Conclusions
Results show that the adversity of child maltreatment affects depression through attachment
styles and low self-esteem among institutionalized children. Implications of child
maltreatment and recommendations for child welfare services and clinical interventions for
institutionalized children are discussed

No full textグローバル人材の育成が推進され，各教育機関において留学の斡旋が活発に行われている．高等教育においては，海外の大学と協定や提携の締結を拡大させ，在学中に語学研修を含む留学を義務づけたり，留学を希望する学生に支援制度を設けたりするなどして，留学を奨励する動きが活発化している．しかしながら，様々な事情により，留学を実現できる学生数には限りがある．ここで，2 つの疑問が生じる．第1 に，留学によって育まれるグローバル人材の要素とは何であろうか．第2 に，留学をしなくても，その要素というものを国内の高等教育において育むことはできないのであろうか．本論では，グローバル人材に必要とされる要素のうち，留学によって育まれる内容について考察し，国内でその内容を育むことを試みる教育方法の１つとして，経験的な学習を重視する異文化トレーニングについて述べる

No full text2014 年は新聞メディアにとって歴史的な１年となった。これまで新聞ジャーナリズムをリードしてきたと自認する朝日新聞が大きな誤報を認め社長が謝罪記者会見するという事態が起きた。しかも、同年掲載の分と、過去に遡っての記事取り消し問題もあり２つの誤報を認めるという状況となった。同年はまた、メディア業界全体が反省を促された松本サリン事件の報道から20 年という節目の年でもあった。インターネットを軸に進むＩＴ革命の中でメディアの多様化が進んでいる。最強のメディアと言われるスマートホンの普及の中で、オールドメディアとしての新聞は厳しい立場に立たされている。しかし培った取材力と分析力、論評するというジャーナリズムの力は新聞がいまだに大きな存在力がある。その力をＩＴ社会とどう融合させていくかが求められている中で、業界のリーダー的な存在の朝日新聞が犯した誤りは新聞メディア全体としてどのように教訓として残すかが問われている。松本サリン事件の場合はすべてのメディアが同じ誤りに陥った。福島第一原発の政府事故調査委員会の「吉田調書」報道を検証しながら誤報を防ぐためにいま何をすべきか。ジャーナリズムの再構築に向けて今、何ができるかを論じていきたい
Development of the Web Application for Optimization of Rainwater Harvesting System
No full textIn recent years, small-scale rainwater harvesting systems are installed for the purpose of tap water conservation. The efficiency of the rainwater harvesting system changes by the precipitation patterns of the area and water usage patterns. However, small-scale rainwater harvesting systems are installed without consideration of the system operation efficiency. In this research, a web application for optimization of rainwater harvesting system was developed. This web application can perform the rainwater harvesting system operation simulation which considers the precipitation and water use patterns of all areas of Japan. Moreover, the web application is able to calculate the most suitable rainwater storage tank capacity and rainwater collection area

Resonance Two-Photon Ionization of Propoxur in Cyclodextrin Aqueous Solution
No full textResonance two-photon ionization (TPI) of Propoxur (o-isopropoxyphenyl methylcarbamate : MC), a typical agricultural chemical was demonstrated using 266-nm laser flash photolysis (LFP) technique in the presence of cyclodextrins (CDs) in aqueous solution. The formation of the MC/CDs inclusion complex was studied by MM2 calculations. Ionization of MC within the laser flash (5 ns) produced a water solvated electron. The electron was generated by two-photon excitation by means of simultaneous irradiation from a266-nm laser. The ionization quantum yield (Φion) obtained by LFP in the presence ofα-, β-and γ-CD were 0.35±0.02%, 0.15±0.01%and 0.61±0.01%, respectively, and it depended on the properties of the complexes with CDs. These behaviors suggest that the useful resonance two-photon ionization results from the complexes of MC and α-CD, β-CD and γ-CD, respectively. The Φion of MC in the presence of CDs (1.0×10-2M) is dependent on the stabilization energy of solvation. In addition, Φion of MC in the presence of CDs (1.0×10-3M) was dependent on the τ. This study suggests photolysis of agricultural chemicals in the presence of CDs in aqueous solvent using two-photon ionization of UV light irradiation
