Simple measurement of cresol included in the storage solution of sunset hibiscus for the Japan paper production

    No full text
The liquid extracted from the root of the ibiscus with water and it was sticky and has been used as a dispersant of Japan paper fi ber material for a long time. However, it is limited at the production of hibiscuses time which are this natural dispersant, and it is necessary to save it in solution composed primarily of cresol. While a hibiscus is stored, the density of this preservation solution decreased, and it was necessary to convert it every year. Because cresol is industrial waste, it is expected that it leads to environmental degradation if it is drained into the natural world carelessly. It can revive by adding cresol of the thing to decrease, but it is necessary to judge density to some extent. Therefore, concentration measurement is enabled in the place that there is not of the analytical instrument if there is the simple density judgment method. In this study, I modifi ed JIS K 0102 and devised the method that could easily measure cresol which saved a viscous material used at the time of Japanese paper production by viewing

Measurement of WBGT and Illuminance Level in Working Environment

    No full text
In this paper, we report the activities of the OSHMS project team and the measurement results of the WBGT and the illuminance level in working environment. In October 2012, the project team was established for the purpose of constructing the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) in the Technical Support Center of National Institute of Technology, Fukui College. The project team conducted a risk ssessment, whose results show the presence of a number of risk factors. Among the risk factors common to all the members of the team were heat illness and problems caused by insuffi cient illumination. The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) and the illuminance level in the workplace were measured for the prevention of the above two risk factors, which lead to the improvement of the working environment

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Traditional Wooden Farmhouse Adjoining to Dojo

    No full text
This study is planed to confirm the seismic performance for existing traditional wooden house in Fukui prefecture. From structural detail observation of a wooden farmhouse with unofficial Buddhist facilities called Dojo in Sabae city, the structure characteristics, the distribution of the seismic structure elements and the aging degradation are clarified. Based on the seismic diagnostic method, the required seismic force and the holding horizontal load-carrying capacity of the surveyed traditional wooden house are evaluated and the seismic performances are estimated

Effect of Nickel Content in Electrostatically Shielding Materials on the Sensitivity of ICP Mass Spectrometry

    No full text
In order to investigate the effect of nickel content in electrostatically shielding materials on the sensitivity of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), nine kinds of materials were selected. By using the electrostatic shield made of stainless steel (SUS304), signal-to-background ratios of analyte elements became the largest regardless of spectral interference caused by argon molecular ions. On the other hand, the optimum radio-frequency power depended on the presence or absence of the above spectral interference. More detailed studies from the viewpoint of chemical and physical properties of shielding materials are required for the further improvement of the sensitivity of ICP-MS

Examine the Dynamic Balance Ability during One Leg Standing in Female University Soccer Player

    No full text
This study examines the ability to stand with the manipulating and supporting legs and their laterality by examining 12 female competitive soccer player and 12 female general university students. Dynamic balance was evaluated by the level of stability achieved on an unstable stool. The parameter selected was the fluctuation index. The results of a two-way ANOVA (group × leg) showed a significant difference in both the group and leg factors. The total angle fluctuation level was lower in the soccer group than in the general student group for both legs; furthermore, it was lower in the manipulating leg than in the supporting leg for the general student group. In conclusion, the dynamic balance of the competitive soccer players was superior to the general students for both the manipulating and supporting leg. Additionally, for the general students, the dynamic balance on the manipulating leg was superior to that on the supporting leg for only general student

Lumen and Lux in Martin Jay's thought: Via Differences between Downcast Eyes and Vasco Ronchi's Optics

    No full text
In Downcast Eyes, Martin Jay often uses words that he borrowed from Vasco Ronchi's Optics: lumen and lux. The aim of this paper is to clarify the features of Jay's thought, comparing Jay's usages of the words lumen and lux with Ronchi's. I will develop my discussion as follows: (1)I will clarify Ronchi's history of optics. He argues that the first fifteen of the last twenty centuries talked only about the subjective lux and that the last five centuries - especially Kepler's seventeenth century - talked about the objective lumen. (2) I will then consider Jay's usage of lumen/lux, comparing it with Ronchi's. Although Ronchi emphasizes that the change occurred during the last Middle Ages, Jay insists on continuity from ancient Greece to the seventeenth century. He refers to the neo-Platonic tradition of speculation with the eye of the mind as lumen, and he insists that the change from lumen to lux occurred in the twentieth century; Ronchi insists that change from lux to lumen was in the seventeenth century. (3) Through this comparison, I will show the three features of Downcast Eyes: (a) Jay discusses the modern scopic regimes as "Cartesian perspectivalism" and "the denigration of vision in twentieth-century French thought," using the difference between lumen and lux; (b) he also discusses the things that are deviated from such schema -three scopic regimes of modern thought, another aspect of Cartesian perspectivalism; and (c) Downcast Eyes attempts to draw portraits of various discourses about lumen from the point of view of vision and language
