Serum CETP status is independently associated with reduction rates in LDL-C in pitavastatin-treated diabetic patients and possible involvement of LXR in its association

    No full text
Background: Statins decrease cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) levels, which have been positively associated with hepatic lipid content as well as serum low density lipoproteins-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. However, the relationship between the CETP status and statin-induced reductions in LDL-C levels has not yet been elucidated in detail. We herein examined the influence of the CETP status on the lipid-reducing effects of pitavastatin in hypercholesterolemic patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as the molecular mechanism underlying pitavastatin-induced modifications in CETP levels. Methods: Fifty-three patients were treated with 2 mg of pitavastatin for 3 months. Serum levels of LDL-C, small dense (sd) LDL-C, and CETP were measured before and after the pitavastatin treatment. The effects of pitavastatin, T0901317, a specific agonist for liver X receptor (LXR) that reflects hepatic cholesterol contents, and LXR silencing on CETP mRNA expression in HepG2 cells were also examined by a real-time PCR assay. Results: The pitavastatin treatment decreased LDL-C, sdLDL-C, and CETP levels by 39, 42, and 23 %, respectively. Despite the absence of a significant association between CETP and LDL-C levels at baseline, baseline CETP levels and its percentage change were an independent positive determinant for the changes observed in LDL-C and sdLDL-C levels. The LXR activation with T0901317 (0.5 μM), an in vitro condition analogous to hepatic cholesterol accumulation, increased CETP mRNA levels in HepG2 cells by approximately 220 %, while LXR silencing markedly diminished the increased expression of CETP. Pitavastatin (5 μM) decreased basal CETP mRNA levels by 21 %, and this was completely reversed by T0901317. Conclusion: Baseline CETP levels may predict the lipid-reducing effects of pitavastatin. Pitavastatin-induced CETP reductions may be partially attributed to decreased LXR activity, predictable by the ensuing decline in hepatic cholesterol synthesis. Cutting Properties of Tool with Nano-structured Surface against Titanium Alloy

    No full text
Low thermal conductivity and high chemical reactivity of titanium alloys cause the tool life to shorten. One of the solutions of this problem is cutting by a coated tool has high thermal resistance and low reactivity against cutting materials. In this study, I improve a coated tool to extend the tool life by producing nano-structure on its face by femto-second laser irradiations and investigate cutting properties of the improved tools such as tool wear and cutting temperature in titanium alloys milling. The cutting temperature is measured using two-color pyrometer with optical fi ber. As a result, the nano-structure decrease the tool wear, but increase the cutting temperature

Vowel generation method focused on outline of frequency spectrum

    No full text
We propose a vowel generation method focused on outline of frequency spectrum for a vowel. One of some vowels is sampled, and modifying it according to the feature of frequency spectrum for each vowel. In this way, the feature of tone is kept and other four vowels are generated from one vowel. We have experimented the case of other four vowels were generated from each of vowels /a/, /i/, /u/,/e/, /o/, and evaluated for fi ve vowels obtained by the above method by four test subjects. We obtained good results in the experiment that vowels of /a/, /i/, /u/, and /o/ are generated by modifi ed vowel /e/

Purification of the dyeing waste water by the microbubble

    No full text
The regulation about the colored waste water has been already carried out by some Japanese local governments. This regulation for colored waste water may spread out in the whole country, and the improvement of the purifi cation technology of the coloration waste water is required in future. The purification technology by the microbubble was applied in most. In this study, the synergetic effect between a microbubble and an oxidizer were investigated about working to purify dye solution. As a result, purifi cation of the dye solution needed both an oxidizer and a microbubble. After the main structure of the dye material was destroyed at the beginning because the decrease in absorbency of the coloration solution was considerably faster than a decrease in carbon density, it is considered that the divided organic substance was discomposed. Furthermore, approximately 30% of organic substance were not able to disintegrate even if more oxidizers were added

About a Historical View on the Architect V. Scamozzi’s Architectural Theory in the 16th Century Italy

    No full text
This paper aims to make clear the historical evaluation about the architectural theory of the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi in the 16th century Italy. In the 16th century, Italy pushed forward the universalization of the concepts that integrate each art. Yet, Scamozzi constituted a logic that puts Architecture in a high position and puts Painting/Sculpture in its subordinate position. In this logic, the concept that has an important role is “scienza”. Architecture becomes a more excellent art than Painting/Sculpture, on the condition that it secures the inevitable relationship with the scienza. Scamozzi’s architectural book “Idea della architettura universale” is the concept that was composed by the scienza. This paper makes the historical value about the architectural book which proves such thing clear

This paper considers of the change of Samurai’s Premises with the salary reduction of Jyokyo three years. A person of dismissal with the salary reduction was 288 people, and the immigrant was 51 people. It was dismissed 191 people intermediate samurai’s less than 300Koku and the low-class samurai’s. The person of large number of dismissal lived in the perimeter of the Fukui Castle Town. In contrast, there are only four people of dismissal in the center of the Fukui Castle Town. As for the immigrant, of the aide of Tunamasa MATUDAIRA were picked. Kozaemon TAKADA and Sakonuemon NARA who lived in Keya-Cho moved in the unoccupied house of the center of the Fukui Castle Town. The center of the Fukui Castle Town comes back to the samurai’s premises by Syotoku four years
