No full textThere is a need in healthcare to coordinate diagnosis treatment and the delivery of care to help patients through an industry that is built in fragments and complicated to understand. Treatment and diagnosis for patients and coordinated healthcare teams are becoming a key strategy to improve health outcomes, staff and patient satisfaction and efficient use of healthcare dollars. In total they reflect the quadruple aim in healthcare. Yet, there are limited examples in dentistry to use as best practices for quality improvement.
Care coordination or interprofessional coordination in primary care practice seeks to organize the care around the patient not upon the professionals academic background, rather a structure deliberately architected upon how to collaborate with the professions’ to improve the care experience. Resident Assistant hiring models: Which application markers and processes indicate later success in the job?
Get PDFI looked at research in the hiring practices for student staff (commonly known as Resident Assistants or RAs) within Residence Life and Housing departments in higher education and the student staff members’ success on the job. I searched for articles and research around RA hiring models, efficacy of RA hiring methods, other hiring models within Student Affairs in higher education, and hiring practices outside education. I searched various peer reviewed databases and read dissertations published online. I had hoped to find more research and more recent research (much was from 1960-80s) than I did, which led me to look at practices outside higher education as well. I found research that did not include much long-term analysis. Much of the research did not find any correlation between various hiring metrics and RA success on the job. A few linked GPA and/or the interview with success on the job. Craig (2014) noted that there were too few unsuccessful RAs (those who quit or were terminated) to differentiate from the successful RAs which might also be true of other studies I found. No studies were retrospective in nature, looking at unsuccessful or low performing RAs and high performing RAs and compared their applications
Targeted Radiation Therapy Patient Education Session, Utilizing 3-D Simulation, to Decrease Patient Anxiety and Increase Compliance
Get PDFRadiation therapy often causes anxiety for patients and their families, and targeted patient education can potentially decrease anxiety and increase compliance. The introduction of a targeted patient education session within the radiation oncology patient process, prior to the start of treatment, in the form of a patient education session provided by a radiation therapist can potentially decrease patient anxiety, and increase patient compliance. The targeted education session includes an introduction to radiation therapy and the interprofessional team, and the utilization of a 3-D simulation tool to provide an audio and visual experience of what to expect with radiation treatment.
Studies from the UK, Denmark and Australia have shown the benefit of an additional educational session utilizing a 3-D simulation tool, for patients with prostate cancer. We recently implemented a patient education session for every patient with prostate cancer at OHSU Tuality Cancer Center, and have received positive feedback from patients thus far. We plan to continue with other patient groups.
The sarcoma patient group could benefit greatly from an additional targeted education session, utilizing a 3-D tool. This group has not been included in previous studies and it is expected that patient anxiety will decrease, and treatment compliance will increase. An informal assessment of a session was completed in October 2017, with twenty patients from the sarcoma group. The feedback received identified a gap in patient education for this group, with regards to radiation therapy
