No full textTitle: The Birth of a Red Nation: Memory of WWII and Patriotic Rhetoric in the Communist Propaganda in Italy and FranceTítulo: El nacimiento de una “Nación Roja”. Memoria de la Segunda guerra mundial y patríotismo en la propaganda comunista en Italia y Francia [EN] Abstract: During the WWII, the Italian and French communist parties (PCI and PCF) adopted a public language in which social revolution and national identity coexisted. This language aimed to justify the building of post-WWII “Red Nations”, i.e. States where democratic institutions were formally respected but socialism was the final goal according to the model of “popular democracies” on the Iron Curtain eastern side. After 1945, the communist memory of war and Resistance was fixed in a stereotyped narration aiming to metamorphose history into a sort of myth, thus legitimizing the right to power PCI and PCF claimed for themselves. Keywords: Italian communist party (PCI); French communist party (PCF); memory of WWII; political propaganda; Cold War.[ES] Resumen: Durante la Segunda guerra mundial, los partidos comunistas de Italia y Francia (PCI y PCF) adoptaron un lenguaje público en el cual revolución social y identitad nacional coexisitían. Ese lenguaje apuntaba a legitimar la construcción de “Naciones Rojas” en el posguerra, es decír Estados en los cuales las instituciones demócratas fueran formalmente respectadas mientras que el socialismo representaba el verdadero objectivo final, en línea con el modelo de “democracias populares” surgiendo en el este de la Cortina de Hierro. Despues de 1945, la memoria comunista de la guerra y de la Resistencia fue fijada en una narración convencionál aspirando a transformar la historia en una espez de mito, que sevía al PCI y al PCF para legitimar sus revendicaciones por el gobierno.Palabras clave: Partido comunista italiano (PCI); Partido comunista francès (PCF); memoria de la Segunda guerra mundial; propaganda política; Guerra fría

Focusing on its publications and several key authors, the article determines the organization’s notion of normative masculinity, investigates how it sought to inculcate those norms in troops, analyzes the success or failure of the organization’s raison d\u27être, and places the Apostolado in a comparative perspective within the military and regime.Keywords: Apostolado Castrense, Franco regime, masculinity, gender, mandatory military service [ES] Resumen: El presente artículo explora el papel del Apostolado Castrense en el intento del ejército español durante la dictadura franquista (1939–1975) para crear un cierto tipo de hombre, infundiendo a los soldados una masculinidad basada en nociones de género de la identidad nacionalcatólica. Concentrándose en varios autores clave y sus publicaciones, el artículo determina la noción de la organización de la masculinidad normativa, investiga cómo procuró inculcar aquellas normas en la tropa, analiza el éxito o fracaso de su raison de d\u27être, y coloca el Apostolado en una perspectiva relativa dentro del ámbito militar y del régimen.Palabras clave: Apostolado Castrense, la dictadura franquista, la masculinidad, el género, el servicio militar obligatori

La campaña naval del Estrecho (1340-1344): El fin de la amenaza norte-africana
No full textThe naval campaign of “El Estrecho”, alongside with the battle of Salado (1340) is considered the culmination of the “Reconquest” process because it means the end of the issue known as “El problema del Estrecho”. Historiography has focused on the economic and political consequences of this campaign, considering it as the beginning of the Castilian and Aragonese naval armies. Our aim, however, is to explain the military development of this historical process, taking into account not only the Christian-Muslim primary sources but also the literature written about it.La campaña naval del Estrecho, junto con la batalla del Salado (1340), constituyen el punto culminante del proceso reconquistador, ya que supone el fin del llamado «Problema del Estrecho». La historiografía ha tratado este acontecimiento desde el punto de vista fundamentalmente político y económico, vinculado con la formación de las diferentes marinas peninsulares, especialmente la castellana y aragonesa. Nuestra finalidad, por el contrario, es explicar el desarrollo militar de este proceso histórico. De ahí la importancia de la investigación que presentamos, que ha sido elaborada a partir de las fuentes primarias existentes —tanto cristianas como musulmanas— combinadas con la bibliografía que aborda este periodo histórico
