GET OUT AND VOTE: FRAMING THEORY APPLIED TO NONPARTISAN VOTING WEBSITES
The purpose of the research was to analyze the three nonpartisan websites and Facebook pages of Voto Latino, League of Women Voters, and Rock the Vote to reveal how Latinos, women, and young voters are framed. The examination of frames was conducted using a textual analysis of the three websites and 239 Facebook posts. Bateson’s (1972) framing theory was used to analyze how women, Latinos, and young people are framed throughout the website and Facebook page. Next, Braun and Clarke’s (2006), procedure for conducting a thematic analysis was utilized to generate themes. Lastly, I generated themes that evolved from recurring information from the organizations. Each of the organizations had several themes throughout their websites and Facebook content and themes that connected the three organizations together. A total of 12 themes were found by analyzing the three organizations websites and Facebook pages. The themes found in Voto Latino are adversity in voting, Latino vote, and agents of change. The themes ending voter suppression, healthcare reform, and increasing voter participation were found from the League of Women Voters website and Facebook page. Rock the Vote themes were change, understanding voting laws, and empowering young voters. Lastly, the themes discovered amongst all three organizations and their corresponding Facebook pages were suppression, the power of women, and get out and vote. These themes are important because they represent the modern-day issues voters face within the world of politics

Data Driven High Performance Data Access
I have started research in intelligent, data driven, management of computer storage as soon as I have finished my undergraduate studies. The presentation provides ideas of how to approach high performance data access as a result of more than 20 years of practical and research experience. Parts of the presentation were shown at 15th USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST), Work in progress (WiP) session, Santa Clara, Feb 27 - Mar 2, 2017, The HotStorage '17, WACI session, Santa Clara, July 10-11, 2017, ICDCN Workshop on Smart and Connected Communities: Technological Foundations, Challenges and Opportunities (SCC-2018) , Varanasi, India, January 4-7, 2018, International Conference on Edge Computing Seattle, USA, June 25-30, 2018, at internal meetings at companies like Dell, HPE, Huawei, Salesforce, at Industry–University Cooperative Research Centers Program (IUCRC) meetings and at my dissertation defense.Low-latency, high throughput mechanisms to retrieve data become increasingly crucial as the cyber and cyber-physical systems pour out increasing amounts of data that often must be analyzed in an online manner. Generally, as the data volume increases, the marginal utility of an ``average'' data item tends to decline, which requires greater effort in identifying the most valuable data items and making them available with minimal overhead. We believe that data analytics-driven mechanisms have a big role to play in solving this needle-in-the-haystack problem. We rely on the claim that efficient pattern discovery and description, coupled with the observed predictability of complex patterns within many applications offers significant potential to enable many I/O optimizations. Our research covers exploitation of storage hierarchy for data driven caching and tiering, reduction of distance between data and computations, removing redundancy in data, using sparse representations of data, the impact of data access mechanisms on resilience, energy consumption, storage usage, and the enablement of new classes of data driven applications. For caching and prefetching, we offer a powerful model that separates the process of access prediction from the data retrieval mechanism. Predictions are made on a data entity basis and used the notions of ``context'' and its aspects such as ``belief'' to uncover and leverage future data needs. This approach allows truly opportunistic utilization of predictive information. We elaborate on which aspects of the context we are using in areas other than caching and prefetching different situations and why it is appropriate in the specified situation. We present in more detail the methods we have developed, BeliefCache for data driven caching and prefetching and AVSC for pattern mining based compression of data. In BeliefCache, using a belief, an aspect of context representing an estimate of the probability that the storage element will be needed, we developed modular framework BeliefCache, to make unified informed decisions about that element or a group. For the workloads, we examined we were able to capture complex non-sequential access patterns better than a state-of-the-art framework for optimizing cloud storage gateways. Moreover, our framework is also able to adjust to variations in the workload faster. It also does not require a static workload to be effective since modular framework allows for discovering and adapting to the changes in the workload. In AVSC, using an aspect of context to gauge the similarity of the events, we perform our compression by keeping relevant events intact and approximating other events. We do that in two stages. We first generate a summarization of the data, then approximately match the remaining events with the existing patterns if possible, or add the patterns to the summary otherwise. We show gains over the plain lossless compression for a specified amount of accuracy for purposes of identifying the state of the system and a clear tradeoff between the compressibility and fidelity. In other mentioned research areas we present challenges and opportunities with the hope that will spur researchers to further examine those issues in the space of rapidly emerging data intensive applications. We also discuss the ideas on how our research in other domains could be applied in our attempts to provide high performance data access
One in Eight: A Grounded Theory Analysis on Communication Surrounding Female Infertility
This study presents a grounded theory analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 10 women who have experienced female factor infertility. The study sought to inquire about participants’ experiences related to emotional support during infertility. Five overarching themes were identified: concealing feelings, making unfavorable comparisons, feeling resentful, experiencing relational change, and desiring validation but receiving invalidation. Although past studies have indicated infertility is a dichotomous experience, connections were drawn in the current findings that indicate infertility is a cyclical process. Participants cycled through each of the five themes at some point in their infertility journeys, often experiencing each theme more than once at different times in their battle
Culinary Literacy and Parasocial Interaction Relationships: The Role of Hispanic Celebrity Chefs in Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
The 36” x 48” glossy poster with lamination would be divided on four parts: 1) Introduction of the study, the rationale for the research, the significance of the study, and the problem. 2) This part will include the main topics of the literature review and theoretical overview of the research. 3) This part would describe the quantitative and qualitative methods used in the study. 4) Finally, this part of the poster will provide an analysis of the expected findings and results. The poster would also have pictures of Hispanic celebrity chefs interviewed in the study.The phenomenon of celebrity chefs is a vibrant area of study, and previous research has demonstrated it with studies focusing on audience participation, masculinity, and food criticism. However, despite the ubiquity of celebrity chefs in the media, there are limited data related to parasocial relationships, healthy eating, and the influence of Hispanic celebrity chefs in modern society. Due to this lack of scholarly research, this research examines the phenomenon of the potential of Spanish-language celebrity chefs to become role models and promote a healthy lifestyle in Hispanics living in the United States. Building on the theory of social cognitive theory, parasocial relationships, and identification, this research aims to investigate the exposure of adults to celebrity chef television programs, to assess the influence these figures have and how they are perceived. This study explores the intersection of Hispanic celebrity chefs and parasocial relationships by conducting a quantitative analysis of the influence of celebrity chefs on individuals’ lifestyles habits, complemented by a qualitative study of eight Hispanic celebrity chefs who are using healthy techniques to increase individual behavioral changes. This study offers a unique insight into understanding the behavioral and psychological impact celebrity chefs can have on audiences. The effect of celebrity chefs could be greater to those who experience and are prone to higher levels of identification; thus, this article offers some thoughts on positive health outcomes stemming from this phenomenon. Understanding the implications of celebrity chefs as role models can further research on entertainment-education approaches and mass media-based health initiatives

Sustainability and Leadership CompetenciesSustainable development is defined by the Bundtland Commissions of the United Nations (March 20, 1987) as, “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs.” For businesses, this means the management and coordination of environmental, social and financial needs should occur in such a way as to ensure ethical and ongoing operations for the immediate and the future. Recent years have seen a significant increase in stakeholder pressure on firms to not only be economically sustainable but also to operate from an environmentally and socially responsible perspective (Wingarten, Lo and Lam, 2017). With an increased global focus on sustainability, the need for concrete sustainability-based guidance from organizational leaders is intensifying. For businesses, to meet sustainability expectations, leadership and management must have the ability to coordinate and manage environmental, social and financial needs, both immediate and long term. Based on interviews with leaders engaged in sustainability efforts and an extensive review of the literature, the researcher will present leadership characteristics that are important for current and future sustainability-based organizations. Further, recommendations will be made specifically for supporting sustainability and developing new sustainability leadership

Improve Employee-Organization Relationships (EOR) and Workplace Performance Through CSR: Insights from an Electric and Energy Company in China
Employees would internalize a corporate CSR behavior to their own workplace behavior. In addition, employees are more likely to reciprocate and maintain a high-quality relationship with the company that is favorable of CSR practices. The insignificant relationship between EOI and EOR could be due to that 1) EOR is a long-term measure of relationship quality, 2) the relationship between employees and their company is complicated, and 3) employees face power dynamics in relation to their company. This study contributes to the scant literature investigating employee CSR perceptions and their extra-role behaviors in China, arguing that CSR can effectively cultivate relationships between the organization and its employees. In addition, we also argue for a positive spillover effect from CSR to CA. Findings suggest that CSR investment can payoff internally. This is particularly important for private companies in China because they are challenged by high mobility and low loyalty of talents (Newman et al., 2015). These companies may benefit from CSR communication to employees.This study examined the impact of employee perceived corporate social responsibility (CSR) on their employee-organization identification (EOI), corporate ability (CA), employee-organization relationships (EOR), and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Results, based on a survey (N = 248) with employees from a large, private company in the electric and energy industry in China, revealed that employee perceptions of CSR were positively associated with EOI, CA, EOR, and OCB. In addition, there was a positive spillover effect between CSR and CA. Findings also indicated the positive associations between CA and EOR, and EOI and OCB. This study contributes to the scant research on employee-centered CSR and suggests CSR as an effective strategy to cultivate relationships with employees and to increase their work performance in the Chinese context
ASSOCIATION BETWEEN EXPOSURES OF PARTICULATE MATTER 2.5 AND POLLEN ANTIGENS WITH ACUTE PRECIPITATION OF RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY IN ADULTS OF A CITY IN INDIA AND AHPCO AS A REMEDY
In India, air pollution has been the fifth leading cause of death. Studies have conferred serious health outcomes in people living in polluted areas with fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) values exceeding permissible limits. Particulate matter with such lesser aerodynamic diameter poses greater respiratory risk factor due to its propensity to reach deep down the lungs and come in contact with the blood. Both short and long term exposures are linked to serious respiratory outcomes. At this outset, a prospective study was conducted on the adult residents of a known polluted area, who developed acute respiratory symptoms on exposure to PM 2.5 and grass pollen grains over a period of more than a year. The study tried to probe the association between PM 2.5 and grass pollen exposure with daily clinic visits due to precipitation of acute respiratory symptoms and its probable relation with seasonal variation throughout the year. A prospective observational study was conducted in a part of city of Howrah in state of West Bengal of Eastern India. The study area was important for having all the four sources of PM 2.5. The study included all the permanent adult residents (aged >20 yrs. to <70 yrs.) exposed to both ambient air pollutant and grass pollen persistently throughout the year (1-32 pollen/day/mm3). Data of the airborne grass pollen samples were collected using Burkard volumetric sampler and pollen count was obtained. A 24 hours Ambient PM 2.5 level of the study area was gathered from the official website of State Pollution Control Board. Private clinics of 32 experienced medical practitioners were identified in the locality and daily clinic visits of patients with acute precipitation of allergic upper respiratory inflammation like allergic rhinitis or allergic rhino conjunctivitis or allergic pharyngitis were noted. Data collected were statistically analyzed. Daily mean concentrations of PM 2.5 in this area was found to be 251.23 microgram/m3 which was quite above the permissible limit as enumerated by
NAAQS. Daily mean concentration of pollen grains was found to be 6.77 per cubic meter. The mean PM 2.5 levels followed a trend as the concentrations reached the lowest averages during the summer season, slightly increasing during the monsoon, and reaching its peak during post monsoon and winters. Similarly average grass pollen concentration was found to be minimum in summer or pre-monsoon time, while being at peak in winters. Maximum grass pollen concentration has been observed in monsoon and winters. Average daily clinic visits due to acute precipitation of respiratory symptoms were found to be maximum in winter followed by post and pre-monsoon respectively. Management of respiratory symptoms included oral antihistamines and local steroids. There was significant and positive association between personal exposure to both PM 2.5 and grass pollen with clinic visit due to precipitating respiratory symptoms. Severe AQI was observed in winter and post monsoon time. (p<0.005). The present study showed mean particulate matter concentration throughout the study period being far above the permissible standard limits. Increased aeroallergen concentration in this study was also found prevalent. A seasonal variation of particulate matter and aeroallergen concentration was found to be significantly associated with precipitating respiratory symptoms amongst the residents of this area which upsurges a serious respiratory health concern. Stringent pollution control measures shall help to combat these deteriorating air quality issues thereby promising a healthier, safer and cleaner environmen
