In this study, it was aimed to reveal the views of Ismayıl Hakkı, who was one of the important educators of the Ottoman period, on the teaching of painting and to evaluate his views in terms of today%252339%253Bs painting education. The study was based on the documents written by Ismayıl Hakkı on the teaching of painting. These documents are his two different articles named quot%253BResim Öğretmenin Yolu (The Way of Teaching Painting)quot%253B published in 1913 and the work quot%253BResmin Usul-i Tedrisi (Teaching Methods of Painting)quot%253B published in 1915. The historical research method was used in the study. Historical research allows to learn and understand the events that took place in the past and to comprehend that the events that are taking place today, the situations that have arisen, and the existing views actually have a historical process. Since historical studies are based on documents belonging to the period, descriptive approach was preferred for data analysis in the study. The aim of the descriptive approach is to present the obtained data to the reader by staying as faithful as possible to their original form

Latent Transition Modeling for Categorical Latent Variables%253A An Application Using Longitudinal Resilience Data

    Get PDF
This study aims to illustrate how the latent transition modeling might be applied to identify qualitative change patterns in longitudinal assessment settings. Using the data collected on three measurement occasions, we examine whether and to what extent resilience latent class memberships of pre-service teachers changed over time. First, latent class models are tested for all time points separately, revealing that a 4-class model is the best fitting model (Resilience, Competence, Maladaptation, and Vulnerability). Next, latent transition model alternatives are tested, leading to the conclusion that the transition model with stationary probabilities provides the best fit. The results show that individuals with the statuses of Vulnerability and Competence have the highest probabilities of maintaining the same status compared to others and that the highest transition probabilities occur from the status of Resilience to Competence and from Maladaptation to Vulnerability. These findings suggest that individuals with sufficient coping skills might have the status of Resilience and move toward Competence, while those lacking coping skills might have the status of Maladaptation and move toward Vulnerability with the absence or decrease of adversity. A discussion is provided highlighting the usefulness of the latent transition modeling when it is suspected that latent class memberships of subjects could be sensitive to change over time

The aim of the current study is to determine the relationship between the emotional literacy skills and communication skills of the pre-service Turkish teachers. The population of the study employing the relational survev model based on discriptive model, is comprised of 249 pre-service teachers attending the Department of Turkish Teaching in Mugla Sitki Kocman University while the sample is comprised of 196 pre-service teachers who could be reached from the population without any sampling. As the data collection tools, a personal information form, the Emotional Literacy Skills Scale (ELSS) and the Communication Skills Evaluation Scale were used. In order to determine the emotional literacy and communication skills of the pre-service teachers, t-test was used in binary comparisons, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons having more than two dimensions. Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated to determine the relationship between the levels of emotional literacy skills and communication skills of the pre-service teachers. In the analysis of the collected data, descriptive statistics such as arithmetic means and standard deviations were used. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the levels of the emotional literacy skills and communication skills of the pre-service Turkish teachers are high. The pre-service teachers emotional literacy skills and communication skills were found to be varying significantly depending on gender in favour of the female pre-service teachers, yet, they were found to be not varying significantly depending on grade level. It was also found that with the increasing level of emotional literacy skills, the pre-service teachers level of communication skills also increased and that there is a positive, medium and significant correlation between their emotional literacy skills and communication skills

Notetaking practices (e.g., modality, strategies) as well as confidence with notetaking has been linked to college success. A descriptive study was undertaken to explore the notetaking practice of a sample of freshman STEM students (n%253D139) over the duration of their first semester in college. The study found that iGen STEM students prefer taking handwritten notes when entering college, and that this preference persists throughout the first semester. Students report using a variety of strategies consistently throughout the semester while taking notes (e.g., abbreviation, summarizing, highlighting) and a desire to improve their time efficiency with notetaking. Students report use of more active learning strategies when interacting with their notes by the end of the first semester. While the amount of time spent engaging with their notes remained constant at 2.5 to 3 hours per week per class, more students created their own test questions, used drawing and labelling, and wrote connections between concepts by the end of the first semester. STEM students from the iGen generation demonstrate a preference for handwritten notes. They appear to adjusted their notetaking strategies over the semester and interacted with their notes in ways that supported learning
