A Mixed Method Research Study on the Effectiveness of Board Game Based Cognitive Training Programme
This study aimed to examine the influence of the lsquo%253BBoard Game Based Cognitive Training Programme (BGBCTP) on the cognitive development of the second and third graders among primary school children. BGBCTP is based on educational board games for second and third graders and aims to help them develop cognitive skills. Mixed method was used and it was carried out within the framework of embedded design. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was the quantitative data gathering method and a case study was the qualitative one. The participant group consisted of 120 children (60 in the experimental group, 60 in the control group). The interviews were conducted with twenty grade teachers who carried out the training programme in the experimental group. The General Information Form, The Thurstone Primary Mental Abilities Test 7-11 (PMA 7-11) and Semi-structured Interview Form were used to collect data. PMA 7-11 was used to statistically test the influence of BGBCTP on the development of second and third graders cognitive skills. BGBCTP was used by the researcher with the children in the experimental group in a lsquo%253Bregular and controlled manner, for 12 weeks, 2 days in a week, 1 hour each day (a total of 24 hours), in addition to their daily activities in their regular environment. For quantitative data analysis, the dependent-samples t-test was carried out for in-group comparisons, whereas the independent-samples t-test was used for intergroup comparisons. For qualitative data analysis, a descriptive analysis approach was used. The quantitative research findings indicated that the BGBCTP has had a significantly positive effect on the cognitive developments of the children in the experimental group. Besides the qualitative research findings revealed that the BGBCTP has a positive effect on childrens linguistic, shape-space, reasoning, discrimination and numerical abilities. In conclusion, BGBCTP is an effective programme on the cognitive development of children

The purpose of this study was to explore two sophomore pre-service teachers processes of professional orientation in the same teacher education program in the US with emphasis on their identity construction. The pre-services teachers were asked to reflect on their identity and articulate who they are as becoming teachers in semi-structured interviews and narrative writing about their metaphors for teaching. Using a narrative inquiry approach, their identity construction process was first examined in light of their life experiences prior to entering the teacher education program, including childhood experiences, early teacher role models, previous teaching experiences, and important people or experiences that affected their choice of a teaching career. Initial findings reveal that the same pre-service teacher education program had a different impact on each student teacher. Their previous life experiences, their early beliefs about teaching, their initial motivations, and their experiences in their teacher education program all influenced their adaptation to the teaching profession
The Effect of Interactive Book Reading Activities on Children%252339%253Bs Print and Phonemic Awareness Skills
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the effect of interactive book reading activities on childrens print and phonemic awareness skills. In the current study, the semi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used. The sampling of the study consists of 34 children attending independent kindergartens in the city of Kars. Of these 34 children, 17 were assigned to the experimental group and 17 were assigned to the control group. To the experimental group students, childrens books were read three times a week for eight weeks in total through the interactive books reading method. The control group students%253B on the other hand, were read books through the traditional book reading method. In the analysis of the collected data, Mann Whitney U Test and for relational measurements, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used. At the end of the study, it was found that the interactive books reading activities had significant effects of the development of the childrens phonemic and print awareness skills
The Effect of Engineering Design-Based Science Teaching on The Perceptions of Classroom Teacher Candidates Towards STEM Disciplines
The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of the engineering design-based teaching process in primary school science course of classroom teacher canditates perceptions about the disciplines of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic). The study, pre-posttest single-group experimental design was used. The study group consisted of 28 classroom teacher candidates studying of university in Ankara. The data collected by the quot%253BSTEM Semantic Difference Scalequot%253B were used for normal and dependent groups t-test. Eventually, it was found that the engineering design-based teaching process had a positive and significant increase in the perceptions of the prospective teachers about science, engineering and career disciplines (p lt%253B0,05). Although there was a positive increase in the perception of mathematics and technology discipline, this increase was not statistically significant (pgt%253B 0.05). It was also observed that positive and meaningful changes (p lt%253B0.05) were observed in the perceptions of general STEM disciplines
Investigation of the Football Fanaticism Levels of Physical Education Teachers
The aim of this study is to investigate fanaticism activities and fanaticism levels of physical education teachers as football supporters. The sample of the study consists of a total of 1292 teachers, 754 males and 538 females, who were working as physical education teachers in the cities of Gaziantep, Malatya, Elazığ and Kahramanmaraş in the 2017-2018 education period. Within the scope of this study, the Football Supporter Fanaticism Scale (FSFS), which includes 13-items, was used. The data obtained in the data collection period were analyzed using SPSS software. The physical education teachers in the study were investigated for their fanaticism, age, gender, marital status and years of professional experience. It was determined that the participants consisted of 17.6%25 of fanatics, 35.8%25 of team supporters and 46.6%25 of football spectators
A Systematic Review of Critical Factors Regarding ICT Use in Teaching and Learning
ICT use has gained currency in the realm of education for about three decades. This has led to a proliferation of ICT research studies in educational settings, which has also made it more challenging for ICT practitioners and researchers to keep up with the current trends and identify the research gaps in the literature. In regard to this, the present review intends to summarize critical factors pertinent to ICT use addressed in the reviewed papers. The paper also discusses what direction future ICT research might go. As a guideline in the current review study, the PRISMA Statement (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) was employed. The review results extracted from our qualitative synthesis were presented and based on the results a generic model illustrating ICT related student, teacher and school conditions was proposed. Finally, a list of implications for future research was also provided for ICT practitioners and researchers
Turkish Elementary Teachers%252339%253B Value Perceptions%253A A Sample of Rize
The purpose of this study is to investigate the values of elementary teachers in terms of gender, marital status, seniority and level of education variables. The study was conducted in accordance with the relational screening model. The sample of the study consists of 400 elementary teachers, 182 male and 218 female teachers working in public schools in Rize City, located in the north-east part of Turkey. The data were collected between March-May 2015. The quot%253BSchwartz Values Scalequot%253B (PBL) developed by Schwartz and adapted to Turkish by Demirutku was used in the study to reveal the values of elementary teachers. The participants were asked to mark a single option from 6 options ranging from quot%253BMuch Like Mequot%253B to quot%253BNever Say It to Mequot%253B about the scale information and participants%252339%253B brief portrayal of how similar they were to themselves. SPSS package program was used for statistical analysis of the data. Independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and correlation analyzes were performed in comparison with the items made in terms of personal characteristics
Examining the Relationship Between Parental Attitudes and the Study Habits of Gifted Children
Gifted children are the group which have a high level of mental potential, and managing the school with this potential generally without studying, therefore having no effective studying habits. Another important factor in developing study habits is parental attitudes. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the parental attitudes and the study habits of gifted children. In this scope, parents attitudes were classified into democratic, authoritarian, permissive and overprotective which were put forward by Baumrind (1966%253B 1971) in his studies, and the study habits were handled as two dimensions as study quality and study responsibility. In the study, the relational screening model one of the quantitative research methods was used. The research was carried out 2016-2017 and its participants consist of 100 gifted children aged between 7-12 and their 100 parents. As the data collection tools, Parental Attitude Scale contains 62 items developed by Demir and Şendil (2008) and 23-items Study Habits Scale developed by Çalıkoğlu (2009) were used. The findings were obtained through independent t-test, mean, Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient and regression analysis. As a result of the study, no difference was found between the study quality which comprises technical issues such as taking notes, repeating, study responsibility and total study habits regarding age and gender. It was found that families generally held democratic and overprotective attitudes, there was a relationship between democratic attitude and study quality and democratic attitude increased the quality of childs study. For this reason, it is essential to train families on study habits and the impact of the family on this issue
The Effect of Gender on Mobbing Experienced by Teachers at School%253A A Meta-Analysis Study
The aim of this research is to detect the effect of teachers genders on mobbing they experienced at schools. As one of the methods used to synthesize research results, meta-analysis method was used in this study. It was determined that there are 72 studies which are deemed appropriate for the inclusion criteria of meta-analysis study. In this meta-analysis study, 72 studies which form a sample consisting of 24954 people were calculated. As a result of the process of combining in random effects model, a statistically significant ES which was at the level of -0.02 was found in favour of male teachers. When results are evaluated together, it is observed that there is a difference, which may not be considered significant, between male and female teachers in terms of teachers perceptions about AM at school. As a result of the conducted moderator analysis, moderator effects of publishing type (p%253D0,03), of education level (p%253D0,03), and of gender of the researcher (p%253D0,02) were determined. It was observed that while mobbing perception of male teachers are higher in studies carried out in masters and doctoral theses, mobbing perception of female teachers are higher in studies carried out in articles. Moderator effects of school type (public, private, and public%252Fprivate) (p%253D0,63) and of the region where the research was carried out (p%253D0,17) could not be determined. It was observed that mobbing perception of female teachers who work in Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia are higher compared to other regions
Preservice Turkish Language Teachers Opinions and Suggestions About the Teaching Turkish to Foreigners Course
The aim of this study was to determine the opinions and suggestions of preservice Turkish language teachers about the Teaching Turkish to Foreigners (TTF) course. The research population consisted of 79 junior students studying in the Department of Turkish Education at the Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, Atatürk University. A case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, was employed in the study. A semi-structured interview form was used to collect data. The descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data obtained from the interviews. Based on the study, it was found that the preservice Turkish teachers thought that the TTF lessons were interesting, adequate and fun in terms of content and scope. However, they thought that the credit hours were inadequate, that there was little chance to do practice in the lessons, and that the course did not achieve its goal in terms of practice. In addition to that, findings such as the following were obtained%253A The level thought to be the most difficult when teaching Turkish to foreigners was the beginner level (A1-A2)%253B with this course, they thought they reached a competency level to teach this subject%253B however, there was a need for activities supported by various materials and practice courses offered in relevant centers
