Teachers Attitudes toward Turkey Education Informatics Network during the Distance Education Period in the Covid-19 Pandemic
In this research, teachers%252339%253B attitudes toward Turkey Education Informatics Network (EIN) during the distance education period in the Covid-19 Pandemic are examined. The participants of the study, which was carried out in the descriptive survey model, consisting of 789 teachers, most of whom are primary school teachers, who provide distance education in the Covid-19 pandemic. quot%253BEducational Informatics Network Attitude Scalequot%253B was used as a data collection tool in the study. As a result of the research, it is seen that most of the teachers use EIN and the EIN Live Lesson application, and they access EIN mostly with their personal computers and smartphones. However, teachers stated that they used messaging applications effectively in the distance education process. Besides, when the attitudes of teachers towards EIN were examined according to the levels they worked at, it was seen that secondary school teachers showed a more positive attitude towards EIN than primary and high school teachers, and they found EIN more necessary. When the attitudes of teachers towards EIN were examined according to their branches, it was seen that foreign language teachers showed a more positive attitude towards EIN compared to primary school teachers and teachers in other branches, and found EIN more necessary. It has been observed that young and junior teachers have increased positive attitudes towards EIN and they think EIN is necessary. The results of the research show that teachers use the EIN. However, there was not enough opinion among teachers about the applicability of EIN
A Primary School Teachers Journey on Using Drama Method in the Classroom%253A Collaborative Action Research Model
This study aims to determine a primary school teachers observations and experiences regarding in-service training on drama method within the framework of collaborative action research model. The first author was invited to offer a 120-hour Drama Course upon request of the teachers in a primary school. In the 14th week, the action research process started with a teacher who wanted to implement the drama method in her classroom. Collaborative action research cycle was consisted of following phases%253A structuring the lesson plan, implementing, and monitoring the lesson plan in the classroom, teachers observation of the process, and reflection of the findings obtained through student feedback and reflective diaries. The teacher prepared 4 lesson plans, implemented, and evaluated them in this cycle, which lasted a total of 8 weeks. According to results, Derya teacher actively participated in the process, questioned her practices systematically, and became open to development and change with the students and researchers feedback. Based on the findings obtained, it is suggested that collaborative action research model in in-service training should be used. Thus, thanks to this model based on practice, it may be possible to reduce the theoretical weight of traditional in-service training and seminars
Experiences of Primary School with Students with Reading and Writing Difficulties
This study aims to examine in-depth the practices and the problems of primary school teachers in identifying and eliminating reading and writing difficulties. The current study employed phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research designs and the data of the study were collected through observation and interview techniques. Criterion sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods was utilized in determining study group. Six primary school teachers were selected in accordance with the determined criteria to collect the interview data. To collect observation data, 3 primary schools were selected and a total of 16 hours of observation was made. According to the findings, most of the teachers did not receive education about identifying students with reading and writing difficulties, conducting studies with these students, and preparing materials, activities, and etc. suitable for them. Moreover, primary school teachers expressed that although there were some disadvantages of inclusive education, students with reading and writing difficulties should continue their education in inclusive classes. However, the necessity of providing supplementary support to these students in addition to inclusive education was frequently emphasized. When the practices of primary school teachers with students having reading and writing difficulty were examined, it was observed that they generally used letter%252Fsyllable trinkets, gamification, letter cards, individual syllable work, memorization assignments, dictation work, story reading, drama and colored syllables. On the other hand, it was determined that methods, techniques or strategies that stated to be effective in the literature were either used very little or not at all in classrooms
The Effect of Using Social Networks in The Inquiry-Based General Chemistry Laboratory Course
The aim of this research is to examine the effect of social network environment supported use of inquiry-based activities developed for the general chemistry laboratory course. Throughout the research, Attitude Towards General Chemistry Laboratory Scale and Science Process Skills Perception Scale were used as quantitative data gathering means and applied to students before and after the implementation. Eighty-three pre-service science teachers participated in this study. Study group was chosen from first graders who take quot%253BGeneral Chemistry Laboratoryquot%253B course with criterion sampling method that is one of the purposive sampling methods. Laboratory activities which were developed in terms of Science Process Skills (SPS) were used for Experimental Group 1 and these activities were also supported by social network and were applied for group Experimental Group 2, for group Control Group the Laboratory activities in curriculum textbooks that are weak in terms of SPS were applied. The effects on students%252339%253B attitudes towards general chemistry lab and their perception of SPS were studied for all three groups. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the inquiry-based learning approach positively affects the Science Teaching students%252339%253B perceptions of SPS but has no positive or negative effect on their attitudes towards the general chemistry laboratory. Moreover, it turned out that social network support positively contributed to students%252339%253B attitudes towards the laboratory. When designing and implementing the activities included in the Science Education curriculum, it is important to consider all valuable teaching technologies, including internet and social networking sites. In case of an effective injury from these, efficiency in education and training can also increase positively
Teachers Views on Teacher Leadership%253A A Qualitative Analysis
Contemporary theories emphasize the importance of teacher leaders who can impress and sincerely value the student and become a model and guide in the process of learning and production in order to be successful in the transformation and development of the educational organizations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the phenomenon of teacher leadership from the teachers%252339%253B perspective and raise the awareness of teachers on their teacher leadership level. In that sense, the teachers were asked about the qualities a teacher leader must have, the obstacles to become a teacher leader, and the ways to improve leadership skills. The study group consists of 40 teachers who serve in primary, secondary, high school, and private schools in Trabzon province of Turkey. A semi-structured interview form was used to collect the research data, and the data were analyzed manually by using the content analysis technique. As a result of the research, key characteristics of teacher leaders were found to be being fair and reliable as a person, self-developing and a role model as a professional, and having effective communication skills as a social person. The emerging results from the views of the teachers showed that administration, colleagues and hierarchical structure of the system pose crucial obstacles for teacher leaders, and in order to nurture teacher leadership in schools teachers should be provided with professional development opportunities especially through with trainings focusing on improvement of leadership skills
A Comparative Review of Articles on Education of Patriotism%253A A Thematic Analysis
Patriotism is an important and well-accepted value in educational institutions. As a civic virtue, it has always been included in education%252Ftraining programs. This study aims to compare research articles on teaching of patriotism that were conducted in the last 20 years. The document analysis method was employed in the study for this purpose. The data were collected through the international databases e.g. Wiley, Jstore, Elsevier, Tayloramp%253BFrancis. 218 articles were found by searching the keywords patriotism, patriotic education, and teaching of patriotism. Upon initial analysis, it was decided that 110 articles would serve the purpose of this study. Content analysis technique was employed to reveal patterns of the selected articles. The number of articles published on patriotic education in each countries, the publication dates of these articles and the comparison of these articles according to countries, purposes, is presented in this study. The paper at hand shows that only some articles have a critical perspective on patriotism. Implications is made based on results
The Effects of Scientific Argumentation on High School Students Critical Thinking Skills
One needs higher order thinking skills in positioning perspectives for any kinds of problems that affect ones view of life in order to develop a fundamental scientific understanding. For this reason, science teaching requires thinking skills instruction to be included in classes. This study aimed observing the effects of student-centered activities, which were formed through scientific argument centered teaching method, on the critical thinking development of students, comparing it with those of traditional approach in chemistry classes. The research was conducted in two 11th grade classes of a high school in the city of Çankırı in Turkey. Classes were carried out with the teaching approach based on scientific argumentation in the experiment group with 17 students and with the conventional teaching approach in the control group with 17 students. The study lasted for 29 weeks with 11th grade students in two groups. In the experimental group, argumentation-centered instruction activities, which were based on Toulmins argument model, were conducted. Data were obtained through Watson Glasser Critical Thinking Scale and achievement tests named Achievement Test 1%253A Reaction Rate, Achievement Test2%253A Chemical Equilibrium, Achievement Test 3%253A Solubility Product, Achievement Test 4%253A Equilibrium in Acid-Base Solutions were applied at the beginning and end of the intstructions as pre-test and post-test. Wilcoxon test and Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze the data quantitaviely. With regard to the results, critical thinking skills of experimental group and control group students made progress but there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Also, when students answers in achievement tests are analyzed qualitatively in terms of critical thinking subskills, it can be seen that all critical thinking sub skills of the experimental group students have developed more than the control group
An Investigation on the Relationship Between Learner%252339%253Bs Skills and Perceptions to Use Information and Communication Technologies (Ict) and 21st Century Skills (C21 Skills) in Education
This research was conducted to reveal the relationship between learners skills and their perceptions of efficacy in using ICT and C21 skills in Education. Research data were collected from 456 teacher candidates studying at a state university in 2021. As the data collection tools, C21Learner Skills Usage Scale and The Efficacy Perception Scale of Using Information and Communication Technologies were used. As a result of the research, it was highlighted that the scores of the candidate teachers from both scales are medium-high. A moderately positive (r%253D509) relationship was found between the scales. In addition, ICT Usage Competencies in Education predicts C21 learner skills at (R%253D259) level
Metaphoric Perceptions of Teachers and Parents Regarding the Concept of Specific Learning Difficulty (SLD)
The purpose of this study is to reveal the metaphorical perceptions of parents with children with SLD and teachers who work with the children who have SLD. The design of this study is phenomenology, which is one of the qualitative research designs. The data collected in the study were analyzed by content analysis method. A total of 218 participants, including 117 teachers and 101 parents, took part in the study. In the research findings, the number of metaphors produced by the teachers is 59, and the number of metaphors produced by the parents is 49. While the metaphor most used by teachers is the person who struggles, the metaphor most produced by the parents is maze. While the conceptual category in which teachers produced the most metaphors is quot%253Ba complex situationquot%253B, the conceptual category in which parents produced the most metaphors is quot%253Ba situation in which progress is slowquot%253B. When the conceptual categories obtained from the study were examined, teachers and parents produced six common categories. These are 1) a complex situation, 2) a situation that requires effort, 3) a situation that makes you feel different from the others, 4) a situation that creates a feeling of not knowing what to do, 5) a challenging situation, and 6) a situation where progress is slow. Except for these common categories, parents have also produced the category of a situation that feels desperate. When the metaphors produced are considered from both parent and teacher perspectives, it is seen that the perception about SLD is generally negative
Physical Education, Art and Music Pre-Service Teachers%252339%253B Life Satisfaction and Automatic Negative Thought Perception
The purpose of this study is to examine the life satisfaction and automatic negative thoughts perception of physical education, art and music pre-service teachers. Students (n%253D387) who training in physical education and sport, art work and music departments participated in this study. Results showed that physical education teacher candidates%252339%253B life satisfaction scores were significantly higher than those of art and music teacher candidates. On the other hand, the automatic negative thought perceptions of the art and music pre-service teachers were found to be higher than the physical education teacher candidates. Life satisfaction levels of the physical education pre-service teachers are found to be high, negative thought levels were low. Current findings emphasize the importance of participating in sports activities in order to increase the life satisfaction levels of pre-service teachers and decrease their negative automatic thinking levels
