    No full text
This research examines how Turkish undergraduates construct campus metaphors to represent their opinions about campus phenomenon in the context of a Turkish university. The present study adopted a phenomenological approach. The participants of this study were 92 students in the 2020-2021 academic year from different faculties and departments at a university in Turkey. For data collection, a short interview form was used to reveal the perspectives of undergraduates on the phenomenon they have created in their minds for the campus. The form contained a statement with blanks for students to produce a simile and justification. The metaphors generated by the undergraduates are gathered under sixteen conceptual categories after the analysis of metaphors. Among the sixteen conceptual categories, there was no prominent difference in conceptualizations of campus between the groups in terms of study years as regards campus as Involving diversities, Provider, Designing%252Fmanufacturing, Source of experience, Improver, Socializing force, Friendship, Belonging, Source of life, Source of different emotions. On the other hand, differences in terms of study year were marked concerning campus as Dynamic, Undesired, Trust, Valuable, Full of nature, and Having borders. While Freshmen%252FSophomores perceived campus as Trust, Full of nature but Having borders, Juniors%252FSeniors considered campus as Dynamic, valuable but Undesired. Among the sixteen conceptual categories, there was no difference in conceptualizations of campus between the two groups in terms of gender as regards campus as Provider, Designing%252Fmanufacturing, Source of experience, Improver, Friendship, Belonging, Source of life, Source of different emotions. Nevertheless, differences in terms of gender were marked concerning campus as Socializing force, Dynamic, Undesired, Trust, Valuable, Full of nature, and Having borders. Female students perceived campus as a Socializing force, Dynamic, Trust, Valuable, and Full of nature whereas a male student considered it as Having borders like a country

    Get PDF
University years are the years of intense anxiety about the future for university students. A young person is worried about what kind of life (s)he will have in the future and who (s)he will marry. Because one of the most important events in human life is marriage and having a happy marriage is an important life goal of individuals. Spouses have many expectations from each other, such as friendship, intimacy, compatibility, and equality. However, failure to meet expectations in marriage has been identified as an important factor in the termination of a marriage. These expectations became clear in the years coinciding with the university period. The present study aims to investigate the mediating role of attachment styles in the relationship between rejection sensitivity and marriage expectation. The sample group for this study included 365 university students, 265 females and 100 males. A questionnaire form, the Marriage Expectancy Scale, the Three-Dimensional Attachment Styles Scale, and the Rejection Sensitivity Scale were used to collect data. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and mediator analysis methods. The analyses revealed that secure attachment has a partial mediating role in the relationship between rejection sensitivity and marriage expectation. However, avoidant attachment and fearful attachment were found to have no mediating role. In line with the findings from this study, it is recommended that seminars be delivered on this issue and that similar studies be conducted with different groups

The main aim of this research is%253B to propose and test a model of structural equality that examines career adaptability of psychological counselors, career calling and skills used in the fields of vocational identity experience for psychological counselors. This research was designed as a causal pattern. 231 volunteer psychological counselors participated in the study. The data were collected by career adaptability scale, career calling scale, communication skills scale and perceived self- efficacy in counseling competencies scale. Structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. According to the research findings, career calling predicts career adaptability in a statistically positive and meaningful way. At the same time, it was found that the skills used in the fields of vocational identity experience (communication skills and competence perception) for psychological counselors positively and significantly predicted career calling. Finally, the relationship between career adaptability and skills used in the fields of vocational identity experience for psychological counselors (communication skills and competence perception) has been shown to have a full mediating effect of career calling. As a result of this research, a career adaptability model for psychological counselors was reached. Experimental programs that will be prepared to increase career adaptability of psychological counselors can include dimensions of the model discussed in this research

    Get PDF
This study aims to develop a scale for determining the anxiety levels of secondary school students in situations that require them to use their spatial skills. The scale was developed in three stages. In the first stage, after expert assessments, a pilot study was conducted. In the second stage, the scale was applied to all students (N%253D348) studying in a secondary school selected by random sampling for exploratory factor analysis, and results supported a structure with two sub-dimensions consisting of 14 items. For confirmatory factor analysis, the scale was applied to a different group of students (N%253D206), and analysis results confirmed the two-factor structure of the scale. The first factor, including spatial relations and orientation items, was named Anxiety of Spatial Relations and Orientation, and the second was named Anxiety of Spatial Visualization. In the third stage, Cronbachs alpha reliability of the scale was found to be ,82 for the whole scale and ,81 and ,72 for sub-dimensions. The McDonalds omega was also calculated as ,97 for the whole scale and ,96 and ,91 for sub-dimensions of it. The results revealed that the scale measures the spatial anxiety level of students validly and reliably

    Get PDF
There is an increasing interest in competency based medical education (CBME) due to the developments and changes in medical education and many medical schools have begun to apply it recently. Although its popularity in both practice and theoretical studies, there is a lack of studies focusing on evaluation of CBME curriculum. In that study, it is aimed to evaluate competency based medical education curriculum. This qualitative study is designed as a case study. It is also a curriculum evaluation study carried out systematically via Stufflebeams CIPP model. The study group consisted of fifteen faculty members and fifty students of a medical school in Turkey. The data was collected via semi-structured interview forms and analysed applying content analysis. Some of the important results reached in that study are the followings%253A The students have had mostly negative ideas about the competencies and the teaching-learning process while the faculty members have been satisfied with their practices. Both the students and the faculty members thought the CBME contributed to students academic and vocational developments. It is concluded that in order for CBME to provide the opportunities in medical education context, it needs to be developed, implemented and then evaluated in the frame of theoretical backgrounds and principals. Otherwise, because of the problems%252Fdeficiency in the development and implementation process, the efforts might end in vain. In the light of the results, it can be suggested that the faculty members should be supported on how to determine%252Fwrite the competencies and the content%253B on effective teaching%252Flearning methods. Also, CBME should be evaluated and revised regularly involving the faculty members and the students in the process
