This wideband antenna covers a large bandwidth of industrial scientific and medical (ISM) frequency band, including 902.8 MHz to 928 MHz, 1.395 GHz to 1.4 GHz, 1.427 GHz to 1.432 GHz, 2.4 GHz to 2.485 GHz, and above. The simulation results of return loss, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), impedance matching, gain, and radiation pattern of the proposed antenna are obtained through High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) 14 software

Corona and Electric Field Distribution Analysis in 400 kV Line Insulators

    Get PDF
The performance of insulator strings in transmission lines can be improved by corona rings owing to their electric field grading property. The insulation performance of the string depends on the corona ring parameter settings. In this study, the design of a corona ring for a 400 kV non-ceramic overhead line insulator is presented. Two parameters were altered during the investigation, ring measurement (R) and ring tube breadth (r) while maintaining a constant ring height (h). Based on electric field distribution, the proposed composite insulators were compared with glass insulators. Simulation studies were performed for the insulator strings, including corona rings with different design parameters. The corona discharge and optimal configuration results were analyzed, and it was found that the electric field was lower with composite insulators

A Modified Design of Class-E Power Amplifier with Balanced FETs and High Output Power for RFID Applications

    Get PDF
In Radio Frequency (RF) communication, a Power Amplifier (PA) is used to amplify the signal at the required power level with less utilization of Direct Current (DC) power. The main characteristic of class-E PA is sturdy nonlinearity due to the switching mode action. In this study, a modified design of class-E PA with balanced Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) and high output power for Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) application is presented. MOSFETs are adjusted to have high output performance of about 80% for RFID-based EAS system. A matching network is also proposed for accurate matching because there are differences in the behavior between RF waves and low frequency waves. The design of a matching network is a tradeoff among the complexity, adjustability, implementation, and bandwidth for the required output power and frequency. The implemented PA is capable of providing 44.8 dBm output power with Power-Added Efficiency (PAE) of 78.5% at 7.7 MHz to 8.7 MHz

    Get PDF
This study presents a design of an adaptive neuro-fuzzy controller for tractors’ tillage operations. Since the classical controllers allows plowing depth errors due to the variations of lands structure, the use of the combined neural networks and fuzzy logic methods decreases these errors. The proposed controller is based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), which permits the generation of fuzzy rules to cancel the nonlinearity and disturbances on the implement. The design and simulations of the system, which consist of a hitch-implement mechanism, an electro-hydraulic actuator, and a neuro-fuzzy controller, are conducted in SolidWorks and MATLAB software. The performance of the proposed controller is analyzed and is contrasted with a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. The obtained results show that the neuro-fuzzy controller adapts perfectly to the dynamics of the system with rejection of disturbances

Fuzzy Study on the Winning Rate of Football Game Betting

    Get PDF
This study aims to find variables that affect the winning rate of the football team before a match. Qualitative variables such as venue, match importance, performance, and atmosphere of both teams are suggested to predict the outcome. Regression analysis is used to select proper variables. In this study, the performance of the football team is based on the opinions of experts, and the team atmosphere can be calculated with the results of the previous five games. ELO rating represents the state of the opponent. Also, the selected qualitative variables are expressed in fuzzy numbers using fuzzy partitions. A fuzzy regression model for the winning rate of the football team can be estimated by using the least squares method and the least absolute method. It is concluded that the stadium environment, ELO rating, team performance, and importance of the match have effects on the winning rate of Korean National Football (KNF) team from the data on 118 matches

Electronically Tunable TISO Voltage-Mode Universal Filter Using Two LT1228s

    Get PDF
This study aims to design an electronically tunable voltage-mode (VM) universal filter utilizing commercially available LT1228 integrated circuits (ICs) with three-input and single-output (TISO) configuration. With the procedure based on two integrator loop filtering structures, the proposed filter consists of two LT1228s, four resistors, and two grounded capacitors. It realizes five filter output responses: low-pass, all-pass, band-reject, band-pass, and high-pass functions. By selecting input voltage signals, each output responses can be achieved without changing the circuit architecture. The natural angular frequency can be controlled electronically. The input voltage nodes Vin1 and Vin3 possess high impedance. The output node has low impedance, so it can be cascaded to other circuits. The performance of the proposed filter is corroborated by PSpice simulation and hardware implementation which support the theoretical assumptions. The result shows that the range of total harmonic distortion (THD) is lower than 1%, and that the higher the temperature is, the lower the natural angular frequency is

Ultrasonic Measurement for the Experimental Investigation of Velocity Distribution in Vapor-Liquid Boiling Bubbly Flow

    Get PDF
This study proposes an ultrasonic velocity profiler (UVP) with a single ultrasonic gas-liquid two-phase separation (SUTS) technique to measure the velocity distribution of vapor-liquid boiling bubbly flow. The proposed technique is capable of measuring the velocity of the vapor bubble and liquid separately in boiling conditions. To confirm the viability of the measurement technique, the experiment is conducted on vertical pipe flow apparatus. The ultrasonic transmission and effect of ultrasonic refraction through the pipe wall and water are investigated at ambient temperature until subcooled boiling temperature is reached. The velocity profile in the water at elevated temperature is measured to verify the ability of the technique in this application. The bubbly flow velocity distribution measurement in boiling conditions is then demonstrated. The results show that the proposed technique can effectively investigate the velocity of both phases under various fluid conditions in boiling bubbly flow

A Method Based on Only Currents for Determining Fault Direction in Radial Distribution Networks Integrated with Distributed Generations

    Get PDF
Nowadays, more distributed generations (DGs) are connected to a radial distribution network, so conventional overcurrent relays cannot operate correctly when a fault occurs in the network. This study proposes a method to determine the fault direction in a three-phase distribution network integrated with DGs. The obtained pre-fault and fault currents are utilized to extract their phasors by the fast Fourier transform, and the phase angle difference between the positive-sequence components of the pre-fault and fault currents is used. Moreover, the method only uses the local current measurement to calculate and identify the phase angle change of the fault current without using the voltage measurement. Matlab/Simulink software is used to simulate the three-phase distribution network integrated with DGs. The faults with different resistances are assumed to occur at backward and forward fault locations. The simulation results show that the proposed method correctly determines the fault direction

Impurities Detection in Intensity Inhomogeneous Edible Bird’s Nest (EBN) Using a U-Net Deep Learning Model

    Get PDF
As an important export, cleanliness control on edible bird’s nest (EBN) is paramount. Automatic impurities detection is in urgent need to replace manual practices. However, effective impurities detection algorithm is yet to be developed due to the unresolved inhomogeneous optical properties of EBN. The objective of this work is to develop a novel U-net based algorithm for accurate impurities detection. The algorithm leveraged the convolution mechanisms of U-net for precise and localized features extraction. Output probability tensors were then generated from the deconvolution layers for impurities detection and positioning. The U-net based algorithm outperformed previous image processing-based methods with a higher impurities detection rate of 96.69% and a lower misclassification rate of 10.08%. The applicability of the algorithm was further confirmed with a reasonably high dice coefficient of more than 0.8. In conclusion, the developed U-net based algorithm successfully mitigated intensity inhomogeneity in EBN and improved the impurities detection rate
