Alchemical Rubedo in Jill Mellick's "The Red Book Hours": Ecosophy on the Spirit

According to the biocultural partnership-dominator lens as expounded by Riane Eisler, this article studies the echoes and analogies between the opus alchymicum and the instruments of self-growth and transformation found in Jung’s The Red Book and Jill Mellick’s profound, insightful and exquisite The Red Book Hours. Eisler’s method is significantly interrelational and systemic, it supersedes traditional binary oppositions and offers an interesting correlation with alchemy. Mellick’s monumental The Red Book Hours is not only a profound scholarly study of Jung’s own extraordinary Red Book, but also a multifaceted, dynamic and living work which sheds light on the process of Self-analysis as a breakthrough towards wholeness.

Transformation of our world to a more just and equitable system will require a fundamental shift from a domination approach to a partnership-based approach. In nursing and health care, this shift will require a global perspective with culturally humble providers and systems. In this article we share the experience of our international course Leadership in Nursing – a Global Approach, a joint project of the University of Iceland Faculty of Nursing and the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. This collaborative immersion course offers a model of global partnership-based health-care education. International partnership-based collaboration in nursing and health-care education prepares students and faculty to take an active role in transforming global systems.

Making Decisions, Not Bricks: Collaborative Decision Making in Community-Led Development Projects

Community Led Development (CLD) and Community Driven Development (CDD) have become mainstream development practices, thanks to policy recommendations from the World Bank and bold projects from many innovative non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the global south. These programs seek to improve and leverage social capital to improve wellbeing. However, without collaborative and inclusive decision making with community members during designing, planning, and implementing, these projects become less effective and sustainable, and risk perpetuating past injustices that traditional aid models became known for. OneVillage Partners’ approach to CLD focuses on capacity building by inviting community members to actively lead all aspects of a project’s lifecycle. The project is owned by community members, resulting in engaged collaboration across the community, building on local strengths.
 
Building Authentic Partnerships to Reduce Sex Trafficking and Heal and Rebuild Lives, Families, and Communities

Sex trafficking and sexual exploitation are tragedies affecting people across the United States and throughout our world. Over 34,700 sex trafficking cases in the US were reported to the National Sex Trafficking Hotline between 2007-2017, while globally, the International Labor Organization estimates 4.8 million people are being sexually exploited. In order to try to reduce and eventually eliminate the demand for sex trafficking and exploitation, Breaking Free, a survivor-led agency in Saint Paul, Minnesota began a partnership with Building Peaceful Community, a Minnesota-based violence prevention organization, to transform its former "John School" into "Men Breaking Free." This new approach, started in June 2018, is showing promising, transformative, healing results both with men referred to the program for having been arrested for trying to purchase sex from another human being, as well as with Breaking Free staff, survivors, and community partners. This paper describes the change from John School to Men Breaking Free, results from the first 14 months of this new approach, and potential implications for more effectively reducing demand and reducing sex trafficking, locally, nationally and world-wide.
 
Optimizing Globalization Will Become Possible with a New Paradigm

Humanity is experiencing great trauma during the current phase of globalization. According to the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE; 2019), “Globalization is… the growing interdependence of the world’s economies, cultures, and populations, brought about by cross-border trade in goods and services, technology, and flows of investment, people, and information.” The human factor is included significantly in the PIIE definition—cultures, populations and flows of people. The human factor has been the least considered in current and early stages of globalization. That factor causes the most resistance and fear. Where and how are we looking for solutions? We keep focusing on areas where we have invested the most—economy, technology and physical science, while increasingly disregarding human dignity and human agency (Haque, 2018). This article proposes that we can address these inconsistencies in globalization if humanity evolves to greater maturity through a paradigm, which reveals cultural interdependence as a priority on par with economic and technological interdependence. Such a paradigm is Cultural Complementarity, which can harness cultural synergy to complement the achievements already in place and to reduce fear and divisiveness and their resulting excess and crises.

Riane Eisler interviews Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, president of Iceland from 1980 to 1996, at her home in Iceland, about equality and partnership. The nation of Iceland got its independence from the kingdom of Denmark in 1944; in its infancy as a democracy, Icelanders elected a single divorced mother as their head of state, which gained world attention. She was the world‘s first democratically elected woman president, and the longest-serving. Since then she has been a leader in Iceland and internationally, with the Council of Women World Leaders, UNESCO, The Club of Madrid, and The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding at the University of Iceland.
