Cux1 Regulation on PTCH1 gene in Polycystic Kidney Disease’s Progression
No full text38 p.Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a fatal, hereditary disease that causes fluid-filled cysts primarily in kidneys. PKD is the most common kidney disease and can have recessive or dominant traits called autosomal recessive (ARPKD) or autosomal dominant (ADPKD). This current study investigated whether Patched1 effected the Cux1 gene in PKD. The Patched1 gene in the primary cilia is a tool used to discover if it increased or decreased cell proliferation, and if decreasing the Patched1 gene can slow down ADPKD in patients. Cilia length was measured on kidney tissue sections from wildtype, Cux1 transgenic, and Notch signaling mutant mice with alpha-tubulin labeling. Notch regulates Cux1 expression and deletion of the RBPJ gene, a key Notch pathway component, results in reduced or absent Cux1 expression. My studies showed a lower amount of Cux1 expressed in the RBPJ K/O mice than the wildtype mice. When measuring the cilia length, there were no significant difference between the wildtype and RBPJ K/O mice. Western blot analysis was used to evaluate Patched1 protein amounts in the kidneys of wildtype and transgenic mice overexpressing Cux1, called Cux TG. The results indicated that Cux1 transgenic mice had less Patched1 in the kidney than age-matched, wildtype mice. For future experiments, there need to be tests on the hedgehog pathway (Hh) in the wildtype and transgenic mice because Hh signaling pathway activates PTCH1. western view. The western view romanticizes love. Other cultures around the world rely on
marriage or love for stability, safety, networks, and financial or land access. Western love relies
on emotions and how much love someone has for another is based on their feelings in the
moment. It is pushed into the media more than any other narrative around the world. Western
culture has always been shoved into the spotlight throughout history, so it is no surprise that the
Western view of love is shared broadly around the world and has become the most prominent
when it comes to discussing the standards or rules around love. We know that every human is
different. Even if you live in the same house, and say you are twin, love exists differently
between the two of you. But I don’t want to highlight one view over another. I just want to talk
about love and how it exists in diverse medlies around the world

Learning through Failures at Steelcase

This project was proposed by myself to solve an inefficiency I observed within my team and to serve as a learning opportunity. Throughout this journey, I relied on online forums for technical support and my team members for non-technical support. The entire experience of working on this project improved my understanding of project management, being in the workforce, and software development. The experience also allowed me to learn new technologies such as Tensorflow Object Detection, pySimpleGui and JSONs. Overall, I have gained more insight on the career field that I have been intent on getting into. I am now more eager to get into the working field full time given all the experiential learning that takes place and especially with all the training I have had from my time at K
Synthesis of Bis-poly(pyrazol-1-yl) borate thorium dichloride
No full text19 p.Since their initial discovery, inorganic chemists have had an interest in the reactivity and stabilizing effects of poly(pyrazol-1-yl) borate ligands. In particular, these are large, chelated ligands which can bond well to many of the larger metals. This has led to a particular interest in using them for actinide and lanthanide chemistry as they are able to stabilize and control these large elements which are traditionally quite difficult to work with. One of the reasons these are useful as ligands is that they are large enough where if two of them are attached to an actinide, they cause the molecule to be sterically hindered enough where a very limited number of ligands can bind. This allows a high degree of control over how the additional ligands binds which is very desirable. For these reasons, we decided to attempt to synthesize a thorium compound created with a large variant of poly(pyrazol-1-yl) borate known as Tp*. Tp* is a particularly sterically hindering ligand so, it requires more finesse to get it to bind but, it is also more useful as it only allows very small molecules to bind to the thorium
A Look Into the Lives of the People That Fall Through the Cracks
No full text22 p.My Senior Individualized Project consisted of volunteering at the YWCA in order to gain a greater understanding of the work that nonprofits do and to develop greater skills that will help me later in life with my Psychology career through different experiences. These experiences were acquired through one-on-one interactions with actual victims of sexual assault/domestic violence, all of them adult women. The YWCA is an organization that is on a mission to promote maternal and child care, reduce homelessness in Kalamazoo, as well as, to protect victims of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and human trafficking. I devoted a total of 145 hours to this organization, all divided between on-call shifts and working at the YWCA downtown offices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My position at the YWCA also allowed me to learn about the different paperwork and forms that go into making a non-profit work by actually completing these forms and organizing them throughout my internship. Throughout my time at the YWCA, under supervision of Sherry Brockway, I was able to develop new skills to better support survivors and people in need. In order to do this, I learned new ways to offer emotional and social support and was able to experience these new skills through in-person and virtual experiences with support groups, shelter meetings, and speaking with different clients. I did this by talking to them and showing them that I believed them and by being able to actively support them through these hardships. In addition, I experienced some difficult situations and struggles that usually come with this line of work. These included: not being able to help a client due to lack of resources, seeing all the pain and suffering so many people go through, and not knowing what to say after someone confides in you with the worst day of their lives… Furthermore, my position allowed me to observe a lot of the fundamental “behind the scenes” work that most people do not get to see, the most important one in my opinion, would be learning about the nurse’s procedure when doing a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) rape kit and even being present for one, which I will talk about later on in the essay
Ubiquitylation in Cancer Regulation
No full text25 p.My internship focused on the pro-pathogenic role of ubiquitylation in cancer. Ubiquitylation is a post-translational modification that controls many highly regulated, biological processes that are vital to maintaining cell homeostasis (Duan & Pagano et al., 2021). Dysregulation of the ubiquitin system has been associated with the initiation and development of cancer (Mansour., 2018). Depending on the target protein, ubiquitin may function as a tumor suppressor or tumor promoter by inhibiting or activating a number of different cascades (Hoeller & Dikic., 2009). In my internship, I was directly involved in helping Grant with his practicum that focused on the endogenous role of DCAF15, an ubiquitin E3 ligase, in the development of 5Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). An Acute Myeloid Leukemia dataset from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) revealed that patients with high DCAF15 expression had poorer survival rates compared to their counterparts with low DCAF15 expression (TCGA). Nonetheless, the mechanism behind which DCAF15 is able to facilitate this reaction and its substrate is largely unknown. To determine potential DCAF15 substrates in the Cohesin complex, Amelia, who was a previous research intern and Grant, ran a CRISPR/CAS9 screen of proteins that underwent MLN treatment and saw several proteins binded to DCAF15. The protein, CDCA5 also known as Sororin, in particular, stood out because of its role in regulating the Cohesin complex. Hence, I was personally responsible for conducting a CDCA5 Truncation-Mapping IP and CDCA5 Mutagenesis Mapping IP with the intention of determining the region of Sororin that DCAF15 binds to
Predicting Future GDP Using Stock Market Indices

The first section is a literature review of previously published works on the topic, critiquing and analyzing their content and findings. The second section goes through the process of creating a GDP forecasting model using stock market indices in attempted to find a correlation between the two. The analytical section of the paper introduces the variables used in the model, expected results, and linear regression analysis of the model. The last section of the paper summarizes the results and conclusions about the regression model and discusses any further implications of the topic and its uses in the field of economics
FPS : Fairytale Protagonist Syndrome : Retellings for The Internet Age
No full textxiv, 82 p.My work on “FPS: Fairytale Protagonist Syndrome” is a capstone of all my creative writing work in the English major and wrestles with intellectual discussions of race, gender, sexuality, class, love, grief, and binaries. These discussions have been interwoven throughout my classes in both the English major and the Film and Media Studies concentration within the English major. I constructed my SIP the way I did because of this quote from Sara Borjas, “Poetry collections are novels in fragments,” which Professor Bela Agosa shared with us in SEMN 495-01 Poetics of Love. Part I tells the tale of a girl who is abused through the internet and a boy who is preyed upon by a woman in loose retellings of Little Red Riding Hood and The Snow Queen. Part II is a semi-autobiographical retelling of the Aarne–Thompson type 310 "The Maiden in The Tower" as it applies to the poet’s life. Part III tells the story of an abused girl whose parental and partner figures in her life don’t help at all, with shocking, vivid, grotesque imagery. Part IV is the girl’s escape to the fantasy world of fairytales with princes and princesses only to realize that the perfect partner doesn’t exist and that perfection is just a fabrication. Part V is the girl’s cynicism and defiance before she considers the perspective of the now-scorned prince and decides to reimagine a more realistic happily ever after. Part VI is a melding of the girl in this overarching story and the speaker who is both the girl and not the girl. Here, we explore the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality and the ultimate rejection of the fairytale mythos, which has dictated the speaker’s life until this point
