No hayagua : Water Scarcity Affecting Farmers in Ensenada BC, Mexico Catalyzing the Requirement for Adaptation Methods to be Implemented
No full textvi, 65 p.Farmers in the Ejido of Maneadero wake up to the recurring nightmare of the phrase "no hay agua"(there is no water). Maneadero, a coastal town part of the municipality of Ensenada Baja California Mexico, is composed of land that is primarily used for agricultural production and relies on water from the Maneadero aquifer. Due to increasing population, water demand has increased drastically. Most of the water that is extracted from the aquifer is not used for agricultural practice in the area, rather it is sent to the city of Ensenda for domestic purposes. This causes water levels to plumtnet in the aquifer and forces farmers to continue extracting water to irrigate their crops although levels are low. Furthermore, due to climate change and drought, the aquifers have not been properly recharged in years. This exploitation has caused extreme low water levels causing sea water intrusions into the aquifer and private wells of many farmers in Maneadero. Therefore, farmers who irrigate their crops using the available water with high levels of seawater contaminate the soil, leading to decreases in production and the decrease of the agricultural industry in the area. This study addresses the various methods that farmers, researchers, and stakeholders have thought to implement in order to adapt to changes in the climate, mitigate the harm done to the Maneadero aquifer, and find better methods of water management to support farmers

Finding Kylah : Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
No full text5 p.I wanted my biggest take away from this experience to be learning what jobs were out there in the computer science field. I learned that and so much more. This summer has allowed me to gain a new confidence in my programming skills. I often feel like an imposter at this school. I still felt like my freshman self who only knew about the basics of html. I learned that it’s okay to not know exactly what your life will be like after graduation. Mina taught me that even if I decide to take a non-computer science career path, I will still be successful. I don’t need my life plan to match others. Lee taught me that even if you start out inexperienced, if you work hard, you can gain those skills you lack. This SIP experience was not what I expected, it was even better. I now feel so confident in how I discuss my computer science knowledge. I have created a LinkedIn page and reached out to alumni, something I was afraid to do before this. I have responded to job recruiters and set up times to meet them and discuss my career goals. Even though I don’t have a set plan after graduation I no longer fear what comes next. I am ready to embrace what’s to come and find my place
Redefining Location: How Kendrick Lamar Expands Locality in Hip Hop Through DAMN
No full text51 p.Kendrick Lamar has been a household name since 2012, when he released his critically
acclaimed album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Lamar, born in Compton California, has released
several classic hip hop albums since his rise to fame. This paper evaluates the impact of his most
recent solo album, DAMN, on locality and the process of localization in the hip hop community.
I argue that Lamar’s album pushes the barriers of traditional understandings of the
process of localization and the tools used to achieve it. Lamar expands the concept of locality in
hip hop beyond geographical populations, broadening it to include a community influenced by
religion, race, education level, and musical style in addition to communities based on a
geographical location. I will explore the influence of DAMN on the expansion of locality in
regards to hip hop.
First, I examine Kendrick Lamar’s past as an individual and an artist, his hometown of
Compton, California and its past significant hip hop artists and adopted style. Then, by
juxtaposing Lamar’s style to that of established Compton style, I will examine the unique
features of Lamar’s music plus his incorporation of traditional Compton style that come together
to expand locality in his music beyond Compton itself. I will measure Lamar’s influence on the
expansion of the local community by examining the diverse collection of awards, accolades, and
recognition received by the album, with attention to album sales and chart placement.
Finally, I discuss the potential future influence DAMN could have on expectations
regarding the use of locality and the process of localization in hip hop, specifically Compton hip
hop
My Harvard Game Design Course Experience
No full textv, 43 p.My original plan for my Senior Individualized Project was to try and do an internship at a tech company to get experience, but COVID-19 had a different plan for me, making it so that every internship I had applied for would fall away due to shutdowns or personnel limits. But this may have been a blessing in disguise, as it allowed me to go back to my love of video games and take a summer course at Harvard, CS50 Introduction to Game Development. The course was an 11-week program, with each week centered on a specific video game such as Bejeweled, Super Mario Brothers, or Portal. I was taught a new language, Lua, which has been used for many different well-known games such as Roblox or the Saints Row Series and applied this language to the engines of Love2D, for simpler 2-Dimensional pixel arts games, and the Unity engine for dipping into the 3rd dimension. Throughout this paper I will go week-by-week and go in-depth into the game we studied, the main learning points we focused on, what project I had to do to change the game or add to it, and how these projects changed how I thought about programming and computer science. Finally, I will explain my process in creating my own game from scratch as the Final Project of the course and the hurdles and challenges I had to overcome
A reflection on my experience shadowing a dermatology surgeon and a literature review comparing Ester and Amide local anesthetics
No full textiv, 19 p.For my experiential SIP, I reflected on my experience shadowing a Dermatology Surgeon for 100 hours, and then wrote a literature review on local anesthetics – a medical tool used daily at the clinic. Local anesthetics (LAs) are a group of chemical compounds with a lipophilic aromatic ring, ester or amide chain, and tertiary/quaternary amine. In contrast to general anesthesia, LAs contain the typical analgesic and muscle relaxant effects to the area they are applied which allows for a conscious patient who can respond to commands and answer questions the surgeon may have. Additionally, the lower concentration allows for fast clearance from the blood and low negative impact of residual anesthesia. The review seeks to understand how the structure of LAs relates to their function in addition to what clinical applications of LAs have been found successful or unsuccessful and why

No full text8 p.My spring gallery, Feral Feminism and Other Stories, begins where my English SIP (Senior Integrated Project), i’d kill a man for you, started. And that 60+ page monster started with a lot of pain. Emotional and physical abuse that took moving 1,600 miles away from my family to really come to a head. And my first coping mechanism was writing, pressing printer paper to the wounds, and then letting the bloodied words flow. Embroidery has, traditionally, been an undervalued ‘feminine’ art that housewives, young women, and girls were expected and encouraged to learn. And, because if it’s ties with the homebound femme, it was looked down upon. Painting was seen in a similar way in my family, as something to do just so long as it doesn’t become what you bet your bread and butter on. Because then you were dumber than a fool and of no use to anyone. As someone fairly good at either, it's a natural leap in mind to meld the two into what I hope to be a feminine and angry voice. My earlier work shows just as much with red and black taking the main stage in all my pieces, colors that I later learned to be a bit more tactful about later, but still have special importance to me in regards to the feral feminine. So, embroidery and painting has always just melded together for me, not unlike the way two wallflowers decide to ditch a school dance together, hand in hand. Blurbs and titles were how I melded the art and writing in a way that wasn’t overbearing or narrowing. Because you don’t need to read to ‘read’ my artwork. It helps, sure, but I hope I was able to convey the feelings properly enough so that those who get it feel comforted by the ideas there. It's because of that that I don’t like to think of both my SIP and my gallery as ‘bodies’ of work. Bodies are systems upon systems that, if any one thing goes wrong, it can all collapse. And that’s not only anxiety-inducing to try and create towards, but it also implies a kind of codependency in between pieces that I’ve had enough of that in my life, thank you
Mitigation of Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis in Rats via Augmented Immunomodulation of Endogenous Marrow-Derived Stem Cells

sports injury, results from pain, inflammation, and stress on the articular
cartilage of the knee. ACL injuries are a leading precursor to post-traumatic
osteoarthritis (PTOA).
PTOA is a subcategory of osteoarthritis that occurs when a traumatic injury
leads to deterioration of the tissue, ligaments, or bones of a joint (Onur et al.,
2014).
The aim of this study was to use DigiGait analyzing software to determine if
the use of a stem cell mobilizer, AMD3100, and an anti-inflammatory enzyme,
indoleamine- 2,3 dioxygenase (IDO), could ameliorate the risk of PTOA
induced by a non-invasive anterior tibial subluxation ACL injury in rodents.
We hypothesized that the combination of IDO and AMD3100 induced
mesenchymal stem cell treatment will prevent dramatic alterations in gait by
