No full textv, 54 p.Literature old and new has continued to attempt to give voice to characters who are often overlooked, though women would likely still fail to be represented properly. In Judeo-Christian literature, Eve is an ideal and prominent female figure portrayed as a pure and subordinate woman and in Sanskrit traditions and literature, Sita is represented similarly. While both women reside in neat and clean pedestals beneath their male partners, Adam and Rama, there are two women who are their “polar opposites.” Lilith and Shurpanakha are two women from these ancient texts that are often used as cautionary tales to prevent women from becoming like them. This research provides insight as to why they have been labeled as bad, or even evil characters, while also demonstrating ways in which media and literature has uplifted or failed to rewrite their stories. Interoception of the Lower Urinary Tract
No full textiii, 16p.Interoception is an essential function of the nervous system. Sensory afferents pertaining to sensation within the body are necessary for the regulation of many bodily systems including the process of micturition, which requires the cooperation of many divisions of the nervous system to excrete waste and modulate social behavior. Driving the cycle between storing and voiding urine is sensation in the lower urinary tract. As the bladder fills, primary sensory afferents in the bladder respond to stretch of the detrusor muscle. Their cell bodies reside in the dorsal root ganglia and from there project into the spinal cord where some travel straight to the brain and some regulate spinal reflex circuits related to micturition. In the brain, numerous regions participate in determining the right time and place to release urine. Most notably, the pontine micturition center, which acts as a switch between storage and voiding. The PMC has two main cell populations with seemingly different roles, but much about their inputs and mechanisms are highly-debated or unknown. With the large amount of working parts involved in micturition, dysregulation can cause problems. A common cause of dysregulation is spinal cord injury, which changes the sensory afferent circuitry, ultimately resulting in loss of voluntary control over micturition. Gendered Symptoms of Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder and Discrepancies in Rates of Diagnosis
No full textv, 21 p.Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is thought to affect around 5% of children and 2.5% of adults worldwide, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Disorders (DSM). The disorder manifests in uncharacteristic difficulties in sustaining attention, organization, and following instructions, negatively impacting their performance in work or school. Rates of the disorder have increased through the years with each new iteration of the DSM; however, they have not been consistent across genders. Only within the past few decades has research begun to be published regarding women with ADHD, though in this short time, the gender gap has decreased substantially. There are conflicting reports from the literature as time has gone on, with some finding no difference and others finding significant gender differences in their participants. This paper serves to analyze the history of the disorder and its gendered symptom differences and make a call for further research to be done in areas adjacent to this topic
Sexual Assault Nurse Examamination (SANE) Supportive
No full text11 p.During the completion of my Senior Integrated Project (SIP) I worked with the YWCA of Kalamazoo as a volunteer Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE) supportive. The YWCA is dedicated to “eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all”. Within the Kalamazoo YWCA, a wide array of services are offered to aid the community. For example, there is an on-site crisis shelter, a human trafficking shelter, individual counseling, support groups, and advocacy assistance through the law enforcement processes. My role as a volunteer with the YWCA involved working with victims of sexual assault or domestic violence as their “supportive.” I was there to be a victim's emotional support person while they were receiving an exam, putting their assault on file with the YWCA, or filing a police report. I was there to offer victims resources and remind them that the situation they were in was not their fault. My role was to facilitate a safe environment during the reporting of an assault while also putting more control back into the hands of the victims. Working with the YWCA in Kalamazoo has allowed me to improve my listening and empathy skills while also exposing me to the resources within the community offered to victims of assault and domestic violence

Hay comida en la casa: The Role of Food in Intergenerational Relationships of Mexican Mothers Away from their Homes and How Mothers Pass Down Culture Through Food
No full text1 broadside. 48"W x 36"HHay comida en las casa is a phrase many Latinx mothers have said and many Latinx children have heard. It translates to "there is food at home." This is usually said when a child wants McDonalds or any outside food instead of a home cooked meal. A mom will respond by using the phrase above as a way of saying no. There is a negative connotation attached to this phrase, but I want to reclaim it. Children want fast food instead of the food their mothers made. Many children, I am part of this statement, do not appreciate their mother's cooking until they are much older or until it is too late. By reclaiming this phrase, I want to highlight the labor and value that is attached to the food mothers make. As well as the impact the food mothers make on their children and the family unit.
I want this paper to be a love letter and a thank you to all the Mexican and Latinx mothers who show their love and teachings through food and that their labor is valued. My paper will be looking at the role of food in intergenerational relationships among women and how mothers pass down culture through food to their children. When talking about mothers, I will specifically be looking at Mexican mothers who no longer live in their homeland. Although Mexican women are away from their homes, they are still passing down their culture to their children and it is through food and their labor that they should be acknowledged. The Analysis of Cytopoint® ELISA Assay in NHP Serum
No full textv, 36p.Charles River Laboratories (CRL) is a contract research organization that works to further research in drug discovery and development. One of the drugs that CRL helped move to market is Cytopoint®, a canine anti-itch drug used to treat atopic and allergic dermatitis in dogs all over the world by blocking the itch sensors in the brain of the subject. Itching phenomena in Non- Human Primates (NHPs) has been witnessed and recorded globally. The Cytopoint® anti-itch drug Ligand Binding Assay (LBA assay) method developed by Charles River Laboratories in Mattawan, Michigan, was altered in hopes to gain an understanding of how to aid in the itch relief of said monkeys through simulated scenarios. The downside to this assay is that the results tend to have significant inconsistencies that may cause the drug to bind incorrectly, and thus not resolve the simulated itch. By stressing several factors of the assay to test the binding capabilities of the Cytopoint® drug within NHP serum, one can see how to better modify the method of the Cytopoint® to better adapt the assay for monkeys by stressing the robustness of the drug. Based on the factors tested, it was found that out of the several trials performed, the only instance where the Cytopoint® drug didn’t solve the monkey’s itch was when the drug was stored at improper temperatures before use
