No full text5 p.The job I had accepted was to be a Merchandise & Licensing Department Intern at the 2023 U.S. Open in Los Angeles, California. At the time I applied for the job, I knew from reading the job description and expectations that over the next 8 weeks there was going to be a lot of hard work, but I truly had no idea until I got onsite to LA. Our efforts had primarily revolved around the meticulous organization of merchandise and the careful setup of the merchandising tent in anticipation of the championship week. Engaging in tasks such as inventory management, orchestrating group activities, running errands, devising strategic marketing schemes for merchandise display, and more, has significantly bolstered my skill set

Language and Loyalty : Lingual Shift from Nahuatl to Spanish in Colonial Tlaxcala
No full text79 p.In the past 500 years the Mexican state of Tlaxcala has gone from a population that spoke exclusively Nahuatl and other indigenous languages to a population where 98% of the population speaks Spanish as their native language. Lingual Transformation among a population can occur through a myriad of overlapping vectors. When a population begins to transition from speaking one language as their primary tongue to another, either by force or by choice, it is neither a uniform nor cohesive process. The vectors that influenced this shift include imperial policy, political involvement, religion, culture, demographic shifts, and economics. For each of these potential vectors, the paper will ask what impact they had on language in the state of Tlaxcala. To what extent did each encourage, force, or foster the learning of Spanish? What segments of the population did these forces primarily act upon, commoners or the social elite? How effective were they at causing Spanish to grow as a language among Tlaxcalans
"In Übersetzung verloren" : Eine Diskussion über Übersetzungspädagogik in Bezug auf persönliche Erfahrungen bei der Übersetzung des Stadtmuseums Erlangen
No full text47 p.At museums in large cities it is likely the exhibitions, leaflets, audio guides, and other materials are available in many languages. However, smaller museums often don't have the same financial resources to translate their information. The lack of a systematic translation process is the second biggest barrier to the distribution of translated information. Against this background is the question of what translation strategies non-professional translators can use. A simpler translation process would make it easier for museums to disseminate their information in other languages. A growing body of research suggests that the comprehensibility of the text, in this context, comes first. By making an analytical comparison between historical translation philosophy and contemporary research discussing the implementation of multilingual museum exhibitions, results from the fact that a personal and hermeneutic approach is required. It can be concluded that translators carefully translate a text by adjusting the syntax, diction and lexicon so that the new compound text is as understandable as possible in the foreign language.

Designing Phenothiazine Maleimide Hybrids for Antibiotic Applications
No full textvii, 20p.Antibiotic resistance is a prevalent health issue concerning the medical field today. Drug resistance can develop in several ways. One of the most prominent methods is deployment of efflux pump. These pumps are responsible for excreting toxic or foreign molecules from the cell before they have an opportunity to harm the cell. One known efflux pump inhibitor is phenothiazine.
To combat drug resistance, previous work has been done in the Williams' lab through combination therapy. This therapy is done by synthesizing two known molecules with antibiotic effects and combining them into a hybrid model. One molecule, previously demonstrated in the Williams' lab is 3,4-diarlyl maleimides. The molecule 3,4-diarlyl maleimide has shown antibacterial activity against a variety of bacterial strains. The goal of this study is to find a synthetic route to prepare phenothiazine to complete a Michael addition with diphenylmaleic anhydride. Two approaches were taken to arrive at the key phenothiazine intermediate. In the first approach, the Michael addition of phenothiazine with acrylonitrile followed by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride yielded a crude mixture containing only small amounts of the desired product. In the second approach, N-alkylation using classical substation conditions afforded the desired product in 50% yield after two steps

Molecular Mechanisms of Circadian Rhythms: Implications for Future Therapeutics in Alzheimer’s Disease
No full textiv, 23p.Circadian Clocks are intrinsic timekeeping mechanisms which orchestrate biological processes in response to the light-dark cycle. Present in almost all cells of the body, circadian clocks allow for organisms to synchronize and adapt to external environmental changes. Circadian clocks coordinate approximately 24-hour rhythms in gene expression, profoundly influencing numerous physiological and behavioral aspects, including sleep-wake cycles, metabolism, immunity, and body temperature. Disruption of these circadian clocks has been linked to a variety of pathologies, including sleep disorders, mood disorders, metabolic syndrome, and cancer. Prior research has shown that circadian clocks are based on highly conserved negative transcription translation delayed feedback loops. Moreover, research has demonstrated that core molecular components which regulate circadian rhythms are conserved across species including both humans and model organisms such as Drosophila Melanogaster. In this report, I will first review the molecular mechanisms underpinning circadian clocks in Drosophila as well as in humans. Subsequently, I will discuss future therapeutic implications for Alzheimer’s diseases and the relationship with circadian rhythms

Notice I said my experience working as a Student Support, not my experience as an intern because my position is a bit different. As opposed to partaking in an 8-to-12-week internship program with Kellogg, I was hired as a part-time student in January of 2023. Some of my responsibilities working as student support include onboarding new employees, off-boarding former employees, managing technology and offering technological support, and providing customer service through our mobile support line. My team’s focus is to manage and support all the sales employees within the retail organization. The retail employees work out in the field and our job is to provide them assistance from behind the scenes at the corporate headquarters
Childrens Development in a Daycare
No full text16 p.Working with children has been a passion of mine for a long time. When I was a young girl, I expressed to the adults around me how I wished I would one day become a teacher. I had a great experience in my head-start with a teacher that I still keep in touch with to this day. Like her, I wanted to have a positive influence on young children in this new transition to their education. Since then, I have been able to have experiences both outside and inside of my college career. This past summer I was working at a daycare with children from all ages, infants, toddlers, and school aged children. I was able to learn from the teachers I was surrounded by and the supervisors. The stage of a toddler is a unique experience of curious little minds and having even a small impact on those minds is an honor in itself. I was able to use the many resources and concepts I have learned from my time at Kalamazoo College to teach, plan, and guide those around me at the daycare. This experience will stay with me for the rest of my career, and I will always remember my first class of students
