Twisting Language: Cuir and cyborg resistance politics
No full textLanguage, for its fictitious narrative as original and superior, works with a series of mechanisms that regulate its use. Its implementation is the result of a whole series of colonial violences, designating places and corners to specific bodies within the social field, a matrix of phonetic, visual and somatic order. What means do we have to create disorder within language? How can we mutate and twist it? Let's look at two strategies. The first will be to look at queer politics, a body generating political tension within majority systems, demonstrating what minority groups are capable of. The second will be to demonstrate how cyborg feminism can enable us to imagine and express new and alternative stories, creating resistance against the medical narrative and the disease as a stigma, specifically homosexuals infected with HIV/AIDS. Finally, artist and writer Pedro Lemebel will be the combining component for both strategies, we will look at his book Chronicles of the Sidario (1996), where he exposes how sexual minorities in Chile have formed resistances

No full textHow can one make someone who was disappeared present, how can one make them appear? How can one represent those who were always invisible? How can this be done in the classroom? This essay comes out of the collective teaching experience at a Latin American public university: The National Autonomous University of Mexico. I will use the description and analysis of a specific scene to demonstrate how performatic readings (done aloud, in a collective and with the body in the foreground) are an efficient strategy in creating a critical classroom and an “infected” pedagogical praxis: that is to say, a collective one, committed to social urgencies (especially those with approaches from feminisms and descolonial proposals)

No full textLas y los artistas cada vez realizamos más tesis doctorales dentro de una academia que opera mayoritariamente bajo parámetros del método científico, no siempre acorde a nuestros intereses y modos de hacer. Pero, ¿podemos tener nuestros propios modelos? ¿Cuáles podrían ser? La práctica artística como investigación se vislumbra hoy como modelo posible. Este texto se basa en una experiencia personal en torno a ello, a la realización de mi propio doctorado y, por tanto, de la tesis doctoral. Una tesis que ha buscado generar conocimiento desde otro lugar, el del arte, reconociendo su valor y apoderándose para ello de nuestras propias maneras de hacer. Incorporando saberes subalternos, encarnaciones en el cuerpo e implicación. Una tesis realizada sobre imágenes de desaparición forzosa y sus posibilidades de enunciación donde la distancia científica de la observación sin observador, se vuelve imposible

No full textIn this article, I analyse how Mireia Sallarès’s project “Las 7 cabronas e invisibles de Tepito” breaks with ocular-centrism and brings about the appearance of perception and listening, thus proposing that a form of looking be exchanged for a form of feeling. Following a journey along other routes for the learning and building of knowledge, I propose the imagining of epistemic alternatives, based on intersubjectivity and the affects. The act of listening becomes an attempt at loving the other, as well as their language and its untranslatability, and it urges us to imagine spaces of knowledge intersected with feminist and decolonial practices

From speech to writing, from writing to speech. Towards a poetics of orality following five years of research in the Seminario Euraca
No full textIn this article I analyze some compositional strategies of the speech staged by two renowned Spanish films produced towards the end of the Transition period (Navajeros and Deprisa, deprisa). On the basis of a comparative of how both films construct differently the representation of their characters’ speech in the written script and the oral performance of their interpreters upon this script, and attending to the interval opened by the interplay between both instances, I reflect on some ideas of language, writing and orality that in fact collaborate with the production or problematization of stereotyped and passivizing representations of socio-historical subjectivities such as that of youngsters excluded from the economic and cultural “desarrollista” (developmentalist) order to which both films refer; and from here, I ask about a poetics that would tend to propitiate the linguistic agency any subject has as a speaker. This text formalizes as an article some ideas discussed in the framework of Seminario Euraca, a Madrid based collective research on languages and (genealogies of) crisis on going since November 2012

No full textEste artículo examinará cómo la agencia opera en los mundos humanos y no-humanos en la creación y mantenimiento de la sociedad desde el punto de vista indígena. Como resultado de los procesos de colonización, las categorías esenciales de la concepción indígena del mundo (lo femenino y la tierra) han sido corrompidas desconectándose en las sociedades indígenas en cuanto a la manifestación de su forma de agencia. A través de una comparación entre la separación epistemológico-ontológica occidental y la concepción indígena del Lugar-Pensamiento, este artículo argumentará que la agencia se ha adjudicado erróneamente solamente a los humanos, suprimiendo la agencia no-humana constitutiva de una sociedad. Esto se logra en parte mitologizando las historias indígenas del origen y disociando los actos de comunicación, de elaboración de tratados y acuerdos históricos que los humanos han llevado a cabo con el mundo animal, con el mundo del cielo, con el mundo de los espíritus, etc. Para que el colonialismo sea operativo, debe intentar hacer que los pueblos indígenas se descrediten a sí mismos y a sus historias. Este artículo intenta reafirmar la conexión sagrada entre lugar, lo no-humano y lo humano en un intento por acceder a la “mente pre-colonial”
