An Examination of Teaching Methods of Students’ Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills in Industrial Courses: Focus on Student Imaging Analysis
The purpose of this paper is to examine of an evidence-based analysis while proposing a discussion on teaching methods that offers opportunities for students to acquire knowledge and skills through industrial subjects. Emphasis here is on inquiring a framework to view in depth the impact of the teaching methods in the subject matters and with particular focus on how teachers provide ‘abstract’ knowledge in practice. This paper draws on qualitative data collected by the author that aimed to provide an analysis of teaching methods of industrial subjects. Especially, interview with teachers, an “expert” and a “novice”. The interviews were held in November, 2019 and February, 2020. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. In addition, teachers’ notes from the industrial subject class also were collected for this study. From this study it can be seen how teachers try to encourage students to imagine and understand the content in practice. In addition, how teachers try to redesign teaching for student learning to jump from ‘concrete’ to ‘abstract’ and understanding the impact of imagination
