Losing to gain
Using his testimony, Goldsworthy speaks about letting things go in order to let God move through you and your life and opening yourself up to God and challenging your faith. We can't have more of ourselves and more of God, so we have to lose some things that are getting in the way of spiritual growth and success
Core and counter-testimony in Psalm 77
The speaker discusses the differences between Core and Counter-Testimony in the Old Testament.
Core testimony is what God has done and is doing. They are actions in the over-arching story. God is an active agent who rescues and redeems.
On the other hand, counter-testimony is an encounter with God that cannot be explained that causes one to question God. According to the speaker, it occurs in times when we feel abandoned or forgotten by God
Jesus said, "No."
The speaker explains that for our emotional-psychological health and well-being, it is important to sometimes say "no" to obligations. It is okay because Jesus also said "no". He references the first chapter of Mark when Jesus stepped away from healing the people of Capernaum and moved on to another city.
The speaker also provides four questions that can be asked in order to discover one's purpose in life and in the church:
1. What is my passion?
2. What is my personality?
3. What is my potential?
4. What is my perception of the world's needs
Global leadership
The speaker talks about social justices. He states that there are two kinds of justices and ways of thinking. The first justice is owning the truth and converting people. The
second justice is helping people. He draws upon his past, growing up in Argentina as a Jew when many didn't have jobs and were not able to provide for their families. The second justice was displayed when a network of all denominations of religions was created to to help people.
The speaker gives the advice for bringing about the second justice in today's community: listen to the community and create and try things that have never been done before in order to make different things happen
The Body of Christ
The speaker talks about connectivity. Similar to today's technology, even more so, the church is connected. We are all part of one body, when one is hurt, we all hurt, when one gains, we all gain. He stresses that those who are connected to the body can help it fulfill its duties. In addition, connecting others to God is accomplished by being connected to God
Healing
Using Romans 8, the speaker stresses that God allows difficult and painful things to happen because it makes us stronger. God knows that it strengthens us in an area that we need to be strengthened in. The speaker also notes that whenever we get out of a grave situation, we have to die to ourselves, and let God's will be done. This is done to help you grow. The Holy Spirit heals us by living inside us
Science and religion
Speaker merges the Genesis Creation story and the scientific creation and evolution story together to a meeting point. This is done in order to get past the distractedness of the separation and to create a cohesive story. The speaker does not claim that this is the true story, but a representation of the two sides together
Keep your eyes on Christ
The speakers are Ken Rasner and his associate Alex Arnold from the company CieAura. The company developed direction, focus and clarity wristbands that are used by athletes, as well as skin colored patches that contain holographic chips that help with sinus allergies, weight loss, and sleep among other things.
Ken speaks about the good that the company is doing at Smoky Mountain in the Philippines. The main point of the message is even though they have had success, their main focus has been on God and his plan in the business
Leaving home and homecomings
The speaker shares stories of homecoming, both personal and Biblical. He uses the story of the Prodigal Son and the story of Mary and Martha to illustrate a point. Both Martha and the prodigal son's brother were "in the house, but not home" because they were concerned about pointing out the flaws in others. Homecoming is about the acceptance of the incomplete, abandoned and strayed
Starting fresh
The speaker discusses four areas of life where one can start fresh: purity, integrity, self-esteem, and attitude.
He uses Joseph and Potiphar's wife as an example of integrity and how one acts when no one is around. He speaks about self-esteem, negative and positive, and the lies the Devil tells us like we are not valuable and that we cannot get back up after we are knocked down.
Lastly, the speaker talks about attitude; we must have the same attitude as Jesus Christ
