Wisdom’s New Frontier: AI and the Quest for Understanding
Artificial intelligence is increasingly used to support human judgment and decision-making. As its role expands, a deeper question emerges: Can AI meaningfully contribute to human wisdom—not just by improving access to information or enhancing efficiency, but by engaging with the more profound dimensions of human understanding? While AI excels at identifying patterns and relationships, wisdom encompasses far more—it demands discernment, ethical reflection, contextual sensitivity, and the capacity to navigate competing values. This article considers how AI may support wisdom. It also examines the extent to which AI limits judgment and impairs morality. The authors propose an “AI–Human Synergy Wisdom Model (AHSWM)” to examine possible roles of AI in wise decision-making. The model views humans as being the origin of wise decision-making. This paper also acknowledges the potential of AI to assist when making wise decisions when used with care. A model is developed from cognitive psychology, moral philosophy, and research in technology management. The model advocates for creating AI that does not supplant common-sense human knowledge, but instead aligns with it, enabling AI to assist in establishing moral responsibility and serving broader social ends. Thus, the article aims to provide a framework for fostering sound reasoning in complex situations, while highlighting the human capacities that are essential to wisdom
An Analysis on the Cross-border Communication Strategy of Guilin Red Tourism Culture in ASEAN from the Perspective of Cross-cultural Communication Theory
Against the dual backdrop of deepening the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and advancing the cultural-tourism integration strategy, Guilin, with its abundant red tourism resources and geographical advantages, possesses inherent conditions for disseminating red culture in ASEAN. However, it faces practical challenges such as significant cultural discount and difficulties in cognitive recognition. This paper employs literature review and case analysis methods, supported by intercultural communication theory, to construct an analytical framework from three dimensions: cultural context, communication objectives, and element adaptation. By considering the cultural differences between high and low-context ASEAN, it proposes adaptive communication strategies such as differentiated content expression, exploration of common values, and localization transformation. The aim is to break down cross-border communication barriers, enhance the international influence of Guilin's red culture, and provide theoretical references and practical guidance for the cross-border dissemination of regional characteristic cultures
How Upset People Cause the Trigger of Conflicts
The article analyzes the role of agitated people unable to control their emotions as a trigger for conflicts in human history. According to the author, even though these people represent a minority, they have often had a disproportionate impact, dragging entire communities into war and violence. It is highlighted how the majority-minority dynamic is a constant in societies: the agitated minority often manages to influence the majority, leading to harmful collective decisions. The responsibility for conflicts also falls on communities that passively accept the choices of leaders or agitated groups. The author distinguishes between natural death, part of the cycle of life, and death in war, seen as a man-made anomaly. No one is born violent but becomes so due to social and psychological factors.Historical and news examples are cited (such as the Pamela Genini case and the influence of D’Annunzio in the First World War) to show how violence can emerge both individually and collectively. Society should learn to isolate and treat people with violent tendencies, preventing them from taking on roles of power or forming dangerous groups. The need for preventive interventions, with the involvement of law enforcement and mental health specialists, to monitor and manage potentially dangerous personalities is proposed. The article also reflects on the relationship between prevention, individual rights and collective responsibility, citing constitutional principles of equality and human dignity (Italy, USA, UK, Germany). Finally, it is emphasized that prevention and collective responsibility are fundamental to prevent agitated minorities from dragging society towards conflicts and wars, and a more careful and preventive approach is called for in the management of personalities at risk
An Exploration of Marginal Female Images in The Sot-Weed Factor
The Sot-Weed Factor by the American writer John Barth is a long historical novel with strong black humor. Parody, metafiction and other writing techniques are applied in the book, which has become one of the representative works of postmodern literature. The author deliberately shapes a group of marginalized female character images and tries to show the complexity of human nature and the absurdity of life in a special culture environment, expressing his deep sympathy for the tragic fate of vulnerable class. This paper attempts to analyze humanistic care and practical significance in the contemporary world through combing and summarizing female images and their awakening consciousness in the novel through post-modernism historical perspective
Evaluate the Effectiveness of Teaching Reading Strategies in Chinese EFL Classrooms
In Chinese EFL classrooms, a large amount of time is spent reading. However, rarely would students admit that their reading ability has been improved through reading classes, while teachers think their students should become strategic readers by teaching them various reading strategies. To understand why there is such a divergence, it is of significance to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching reading strategies. This essay will mainly focus on the effectiveness of prediction, skimming and scanning method and put forward solutions to the problems I have spotted during my reflection. In the following paragraphs, I will first analyse unsuccessful prediction method and offer suggestions for improvement. What teachers should bear in mind when teaching skimming or scanning strategy will be discussed in the second paragraph and the third paragraph is about the sequence of skimming and scanning, which might also confuse teachers. Therefore, instructors are advised to flexibly adjust the teaching order based on student proficiency in the last paragraph
Analysis of Fraudsters' Discourse Patterns from a Goal-adaptational Perspective
In recent years, the advancement of technology and improvement of living standards have contributed to a growing incidence of telecommunications fraud. Its impact is no longer limited to financial losses but has extended to undermining social trust and stability. Despite intensive enforcement efforts, the overall situation remains severe. Using authentic telecommunications fraud discourse as data, this study adopts Goal Adaptation Theory as its theoretical framework to analyze the discourse patterns utilized by fraudsters. The research categorizes these patterns into three types—gang-style fraud, dynamic interaction fraud and phishing fraud— and elucidates how each facilitates the achievement of fraudulent objectives. This study not only enhances public ability to recognize such frauds but also offers practical insights for raising awareness and strengthening preventive measures, thereby contributing meaningfully to fraud governance
Current Situation of Innovation Activities in Women-Owned Tourism Enterprises in Northern Vietnam
This study explores the current state of innovation among Women-owned Tourism Enterprises (WTEs) in Northern Vietnam, emphasizing adaptive strategies, barriers, and institutional influences. Using enterprise-level survey data from 110 firms and guided by the Oslo Manual (2018), the analysis employs descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to assess innovation intensity, constraints, and institutional support mechanisms. Results indicate that 93% of surveyed enterprises introduced new or improved products and services over the past three years, averaging 5.17 process innovations per firm. However, most innovations remain incremental and service-oriented due to financial constraints, limited human capital, and weak collaborative networks. The EFA identifies three key latent dimensions of barriers-resource-capability, institutional-coordination, and structural-social-explaining 73.6% of total variance. Firm size shows a marginally significant effect, with larger firms exhibiting stronger absorptive and investment capacities. The findings highlight that women’s innovation behavior in tourism is contextually adaptive yet structurally constrained, shaped by social capital and institutional linkages. The paper concludes with recommendations to develop a Women Tourism Innovation Index (WTII), promote gender-responsive financing, and strengthen digital transformation and cross-sectoral partnerships to enhance women’s innovation capacity and contribute to inclusive, sustainable tourism development
The Illusion of Escalation: A Critical Reassessment of Rising Trends in Colorectal Cancer Incidence: Case of Lebanon
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is widely recognized as an increasing global health issue, with many studies noting rising case numbers and forecasting significant future impacts. This paper critically evaluates the accuracy of these projections, suggesting that the perceived rise in CRC cases is primarily driven by three major non-epidemiological factors: global population growth, advances in medical information systems and cancer registries, and greater public awareness from health campaigns. When these factors are considered, the notion of a CRC surge may be greatly overstated. This work advocates for a revised understanding of CRC trends that includes raw incidence data alongside demographic, technological, and social changes. To support this, a quantitative analysis was conducted using secondary historical data from 1995 to 2025, employing multiple regression, robustness checks, and descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that awareness campaigns and internet access significantly influence the reported increase in CRC cases in Lebanon. These results challenge simplified views of rising incidence and underscore the importance of accounting for reporting and awareness efforts. They help clarify the actual factors affecting decision-making and guide prevention strategies by government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and healthcare providers aiming to reduce CRC cases both in Lebanon and globally
Urban Heat Island Effect Analysis in Beijing and New York City Based on Atmospheric Chemistry and Data Science
Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) occur when urban areas experience significantly higher temperatures than their rural surroundings due to anthropogenic heat emissions and land cover modification (Oke, 1982; Arnfield, 2003). This study presents a comparative analysis of UHI effects in Beijing and New York City (NYC) using open-source satellite datasets (MODIS and Landsat) and socio-environmental data (e.g., WorldPop population) (Wan, Hook, & Hulley, 2013; Didan, 2021; Tatem, 2017). Land Surface Temperature (LST), vegetation cover (NDVI), impervious surface fraction, and population density were analyzed for summer periods around 2000 and 2020 to assess spatial patterns and temporal trends. Statistical models, including multiple linear regression and generalized additive models (GAMs) (Wood, 2017; Fotheringham, Brunsdon, & Charlton, 2002), were used to quantify relationships between LST and key UHI drivers. Results show pronounced UHI effects in both cities: Beijing’s mean summer daytime surface UHI intensity reached approximately 5.5 °C, while NYC’s averaged around 4 °C (Zhang, J., Zhang, Z., Sun, Wang, 2022; Bornstein, 1968). High NDVI values (dense vegetation) correlated strongly with reduced LST (cooling effect of roughly –6°C per NDVI unit), whereas impervious surfaces and population density correlated positively with LST. Spatial analyses revealed urban cores were 5–10 °C hotter than greener suburban zones on extreme days. Time-series data indicate intensification of UHIs in both cities over the past two decades, coinciding with urban expansion and rising background temperatures (Zhang, J., Zhang, Z., Sun, & Wang, 2022; Peng, Piao, Ciais, Friedlingstein, Ottl´e, C., Br´eon, F.-M., et al., 2012). The statistical modeling (R2 ≈ 0.60–0.65) confirmed significant impacts of vegetation cover (p < 0.001) and impervious surfaces (p < 0.001) on urban temperature variability. In conclusion, Beijing’s inland climate and rapid urbanization contribute to a stronger daytime UHI, while NYC’s coastal setting moderates daytime extremes but sustains a persistent nocturnal UHI. These findings underscore the importance of mitigation strategies—expanded green infrastructure, reflective surfaces, and adaptive urban design—to reduce heat stress amid ongoing urbanization and climate change
Impact of Capital Market on Domestic Resource Mobilization for Economic Development in Nigeria (2000-2015)
The study investigated the impact of Nigerian capital market on domestic resource mobilization for economic development, using time series data from 2000 to 2015. The study employed secondary data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, the Nigerian Stock Exchange Fact Book and Securities and Exchange Commission database. To evaluate the impact of the independent variables on the dependent, the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method of estimation was employed. Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test was used to identify the order of integration. Economic growth was proxied by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while the capital market variables considered include: Market Capitalization (MCAP), Total New Issues (TNI) and Value of Transactions (VLT). Applying Johansen and Juselius co-integration test, the result showed that there was at most one co-integrating equation in the model, implying that there is a long run relationship between the variables in the model. The causality test results suggest bidirectional causation between the GDP and the Value of Transactions (VLT) and to the GDP but not vice-versa. Using two-tailed test, the F-statistics is significant at 5 percent level of significance. Furthermore, there was no evidence of reverse causation from GDP to market capitalization and there was no evidence of independence causation between the GDP and Total New Issues (TNI). The study showed that the major problem with domestic resource mobilization in Nigeria have been that not enough savings are being generated to facilitate the required investment. Also, the type of savings available does not easily make financial intermediation possible. The Nigerian stock market has been constrained by policies that tend to make the exchange look like a mechanism by which government raise loan finance rather than an instrument for mobilizing industrial finance. It is recommended therefore that the regulatory authority should appraise and modify the restrictive policies that constrained resource mobilization capacity of the Nigerian capital market
