Translating Culturally-Loaded Words in Yingzao Fashi: A Translation Compensation Perspective Based on Feng Jiren's Chinese Architecture and Metaphor
Get PDFThe Yingzao Fashi (1103 CE) epitomizes Chinese architectural literature, merging technical specifications with cultural and philosophical ideas. Translating its culture-loaded terms demands conveying cultural depth beyond technical accuracy. Feng Jiren's work (2012) redefines this challenge by uncovering the text as a metaphorical system reflecting Song dynasty cosmology and aesthetics. Guided by Mona Baker's (2018) comprehensive framework of translation compensation theory, this study employs a comparative analysis to meticulously examine a range of compensation strategies. It further proposes an integrated multimodal approach, aiming to effectively mitigate the inevitable cultural loss encountered in the translation of such culturally saturated texts. Findings show that effective translation requires "deep compensation"—integrating phonetic preservation, technical explanation, visual aids, and cultural-metaphorical annotation—balancing precision and acceptability to translate both words and worldview
A Case Design on Cultivation of Integrating Digital Pedagogy and Enhancing Students’ Intercultural Competence in English Literature Reading Course
Get PDFSince the concept of liberal English education was put forward, artificial intelligence and information technology have developed rapidly, and digitization has become a new form of human survival and development. The newly issued National Standards for the Quality of Foreign Language and Literature Teaching (2018) by the Ministry of National Education (hereinafter referred to as “the Standard”) and the National Ordinary Institutions of Higher Learning Foreign Language Literature Specialty Teaching Guide and the Syllabus (2020) (hereinafter referred to as “the Teaching Guide”) clearly point out that the cultivation of intercultural competence should be regarded as an important ability of English students and the teaching of foreign language courses in universities should serve the diverse needs of foreign language talents in the country, the pluralistic needs of local economic and social development, and the personalized needs of students’ development. Therefore, in order to enhance college students’ autonomous study ability and intercultural competence, in this paper, the author presents a case design on integrating digital pedagogy into the English Literature Reading course to enhance students’ intercultural competence. In the context of digitization of educational and globalization, digital technologies such as AI and VR are employed. Through pre-class preparation, in-class implementation, and post-class extension, students are guided to compare Chinese and Western cultures, which helps cultivate their intercultural awareness and skills. The research contributes to digital pedagogy and intercultural education theories and provides practical implications for curriculum design and student development
Exploration of the Relationship between College Youth’s Willingness to Use Large Models and their Behavior: Based on the Mediating Effect of Human-Computer Trust

College students, who are used to digital tools, use these models more and more, but there are still trust problems.This study used both surveys and interviews. It built a research model based on human-computer trust theory and the SIRAM model to find out what affects college students’ willingness to use these models, and how trust plays a middle role.Using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 to analyze survey data, we found that cognitive and emotional trust greatly influence usage intention. Factors like usefulness, enjoyment, sociability, and adaptability also affect intention through trust. Interviews looked at how students use the models, trust issues, and ways to build trust, helping improve human-computer relationships
A Study on the Construction of Beijing City Image in the Mainstream Media of English-Speaking Countries
Get PDFRooted in China's strategic needs to enhance its international communication capacity and cultural soft power, this study focuses on the construction logic of Beijing's city image in mainstream media of English-speaking countries. Adopting a combined research method of content analysis and discourse analysis, it constructs a corpus using Beijing-related reports (2020-2024) from five mainstream newspapers—The New York Times (U.S.), The Guardian (U.K.), The Globe and Mail (Canada), The Australian (Australia), and The New Zealand Herald (New Zealand), to systematically explore the characteristics of how Beijing's city image is constructed in these media outlets. The Three features are: (1) Media exposure demonstrates the characteristics of "generally low coverage, heterogeneity across countries, and event-driven dynamics"; (2) There is a structural imbalance in the mapping of Beijing's city image; (3) Significant national differences exist in theme selection. Essentially, such differences are the media reflection of the five countries' identity perceptions of China. Based on these findings, an optimization path featuring "differentiated and targeted communication+ multi-dimensional narrative upgrading + dynamic adjustment mechanism" should be adopted, so as to provide strategic support for Beijing to break free from the "othering" narrative of Western media and construct a three-dimensional and comprehensive international image
Study on the English Translation of Novels from Appraisal Theory—Two Translation Versions of The Story of Kong Yiji
Get PDFAppraisal Theory, as a significant component of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), encompasses three dimensions: attitude, graduation, and engagement. This study adopts the attitude subsystem of Appraisal Theory within SFL as its theoretical framework and compares two English translations of Lu Xun’s short story The Story of Kong Yiji one by Yang Xianyi and Dai Naidie, and the other by Lan Shi ling. The study employs the UAM Corpus Tool, a corpus annotation software, to meticulously tag and statistically analyze the attitudinal resources in the original text and both translations. The analysis reveals that the translation by Yang and Dai generally contains more attitudinal resources than the original text, while Lan’s translation contains fewer. Building on these findings, this paper further explores various factors influencing translation differences, including the translators’ personal styles, target language cultural backgrounds, and translation strategies, aiming to reveal how these factors affect the reproduction of the original text’s attitudinal resources. This study aims to provide new perspectives for translation studies, enrich translation theories, and offer guidance for translation practice. Through in-depth analysis, this paper not only uncovers the complexities of the translation process but also offers new insights into understanding translation as a cross-cultural communication activity
Integrating Ideological and Political Education into An Arabic for Tourism Course in China: A Student-Centered Case Study
Get PDFThis study investigates how Ideological and Political Education (IPE) may be effectively integrated into an Arabic for Tourism course utilizing a student-centered, task-based approach. Seven third-year Arabic majors focused on the “Traveling to Jordan” class, which included both academic training and practical simulations. The data from classroom observations, student work, and interviews were evaluated thematically. The findings indicate that learners improved in tourism-specific language usage, cross-cultural communication, and civic consciousness. The combination of declarative, procedural, and tacit knowledge increased student autonomy and value internalization. Despite limitations such as a small sample size and breadth, the study presents a reproducible strategy for incorporating IPE into non-English LSP courses, which contributes to China’s larger foreign language education reform efforts

Few studies explore how families and schools might effectively engage with communities and social organizations, and existing discussions largely focus on higher education contexts, emphasizing student employability. A synthesis of the literature underscores critical perspectives for meaningful collaboration, highlighting the need to center children’s well-being and development while adapting interaction settings—such as parental involvement in homework within the home—to specific activities. Importantly, the diversity of family backgrounds complicates school-led initiatives, potentially leading to misconceptions among educators regarding partnership efficacy. This review calls for more nuanced approaches to collaborative practices that acknowledge contextual complexities

Research Progress on the Effects of Antibiotics that Act on Bacterial Cell Wall Pentapeptide Cross-Linked Bridge on Patient Biochemical Indexes
Get PDFIn this paper, the effects of drugs acting on bacterial cell wall pentapeptin cross-linked Bridges on patient biochemical indices were investigated. The five-peptide cross-linked bridge of bacterial cell walls is an important component of bacterial cell walls, and the development of drugs targeting it has become a hot field in anti-infection treatment. This article reviews the various drugs that act on bacterial cell wall pentapepin cross-linked Bridges and their mechanisms of action, and focuses on the analysis of the effects of these drugs on liver and kidney function, blood system, electrolyte balance and glucose metabolism indexes of patients. By systematically describing the relationship between drug effects and changes in biochemical indicators, this paper provides a theoretical basis for clinical rational drug use and patient monitoring, and also provides a reference for future drug development and optimization
DISTRIBUTION AND CONSERVATION STATUS OF FISH SPECIES IN RIVER MAT IN MIZORAM: PIONEERING DETAILED TAXONOMIC STUDY AND REPORT
Get PDFIchthyofaunal surveys in the River Mat at different locations from the headwaters to the downstream region in the province of Mizoram, done as a pioneering work (since updated), revealed the occurrence of 26 species of fishes belonging to 23 genera, 11 sub-families, 13 families and 6 orders during the entire period of study. These include 17 species under Cypriniformes, 4 species under Siluriformes, 2 species under Anabantiformes; and, 1 speices each under Beloniformes, Synbranchiformes and Gobiiformes. Distrubution and Conservation status of each species of fish have been dealt with in the present paper
