A Look at Sketching in a Japanese University English Conversation Class

It can be argued that Second Language Acquisition (SLA) classes are more visual that at any other time in history. Textbooks, worksheets, and even lectures are now often full of illustrations. Illustrations help learners form connections between the target language and the learner’s experience which enhances acquisition and usage (Canning-Wilson, 1999). Sketching, which is quickly drawing simple images with thick lines in order to illustrate an idea or object, may be a valuable tool in the classroom for three reasons: 1) sketching activates the Reticular Activating System (RAS) in the brainstem which increases alertness and retention of information, 2) sketching increases learner agency through active participation, and 3) sketching accommodates a variety of learning styles (Castillo, 2007). This paper has four objectives. 1) Analyze the previously mentioned benefits of sketching. 2) Briefly explore Horsburgh’s Four Central Guidelines for Class Illustrations and how teachers can use them to better utilize sketching in the classroom. 3) Offer sketching activities that students can use to better learn vocabulary. 4) Share examples of both student and teacher sketches are well as student feedback

An Empirical Study on the Coupling Development of the Red Tangerine Industry and Rural Tourism in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area

Against the dual background of the rural revitalization strategy and ecological protection in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, the coupling development of the red tangerine industry and rural tourism in Wanzhou District is a key path to addressing industrial predicaments and tourism shortcomings. However, existing studies lack adaptability analysis for the special scenarios of the reservoir area. Based on time-series data and cross-sectional data from 2015 to 2024, this study constructs an evaluation system incorporating characteristic indicators such as ecological carrying capacity and immigrant employment driving rate, and systematically measures the coupling level using methods including the entropy weight method and coupling coordination degree model. The results show that the coupling degree increased from 0.40 to 0.73, realizing the leap from the antagonism stage to the running-in stage; the coupling coordination degree rose from 0.34 to 0.67, completing the upgrade from mild imbalance to good coordination; the relative development degree evolved from “rural tourism lagging → basically synchronized → red tangerine industry lagging”, with an E value of 0.89 in 2024, indicating that the lag in the tourism-oriented transformation of the industry is the core contradiction. Weak infrastructure and loose interest linkage are the main restrictive factors. The four-dimensional optimization path proposed in the study can provide reference for industrial integration in the reservoir area

SEM Model for The Fitness Club’s Customer Satisfaction

After the end of the COVID-19 epidemic, people pay more and more attention to their health, especially how to better maintain good health. The gym starts to enter the streets and alleys for meeting people’s pursuit of health, not only improving their physical fitness, but also releasing psychological pressure. In order to enhance the attractiveness of gyms, this article takes fitness club A in L City as an example and uses a satisfaction model to study how to improve the service level of gyms.We conducted descriptive statistics on the basic information of the respondents, their willingness to purchase, and the reasons for their purchase. According to the analysis results, it can be concluded that fitness club A should change its existing charging model and guide its members in their consumption expectations; and most members choose clubs mainly based on factors that reflect the professionalism of the club, such as location, environment, equipment, and coaches. This article uses the reflective measurement equation in structural equation modeling to analyze the customer satisfaction of fitness club A, establishes a causal relationship path diagram model, and modifies it. The path coefficient in the revised model is significant, indicating that the explicit variables in the model have a good explanatory power for the latent variables. The reliability test of the survey questionnaire showed good consistency; and the validity of the scale was evaluated based on convergent validity, and the results showed that the scale had good validity. Evaluate the model fitting from both subjective and objective perspectives, and the results show that the model fitting effect is good and the model structure is reasonable

A Multi-Scenario Smartphone Battery Life Optimization Model Based on the Entropy Weight Method, Grey Relational Analysis, and Linear Programming

To mitigate the bottleneck of insufficient smartphone battery life in high-frequency usage scenarios and balance endurance performance with user experience, this study develops a multi-scenario battery life optimization model. A hybrid weighting model combining the Entropy Weight Method (EWM) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) is adopted to identify core influencing factors with 98.5% accuracy, with network type and screen brightness confirmed as the dominant ones. Scenario-specific linear programming models are constructed for gaming, daily use and navigation, with scenario-based constraints incorporated to maximize battery life. The model achieves an average 18.7% improvement in battery life, with respective gains of 22.3%, 18.7% and 15.2% for the three scenarios. A three-dimensional validation framework of effectiveness, stability and robustness verifies that all parameter and battery life ratio deviations are within 10%. Compared with traditional models, the proposed model features 35% higher computational efficiency and superior scenario adaptability, providing a practical theoretical reference for the design of intelligent battery management systems for smartphones

Research on the Integrated Education Mechanism of Ideological and Political Education and Aesthetic Education

Against the backdrop of the new requirements for the connotative development of ideological and political education in China, this paper explores the theoretical foundation, practical basis and mechanism construction of the integrated education of ideological and political education and aesthetic education. Taking the practice of the School of Culture and Communication of Central University of Finance and Economics as a research case, it systematically analyzes the integration path and practical effect. The study points out that aesthetic education and ideological and political education have inherent commonalities in goals, contents and methods, and their integration helps break the singularity of traditional ideological and political education and enhance the appeal and effectiveness of education. By constructing the integrated education mechanism of ideological and political education and aesthetic education and promoting the in-depth horizontal and vertical integration of the two, it not only helps improve students’ ideological and political awareness and aesthetic accomplishment, but also provides a replicable and promotable practical paradigm for the integrated development of ideological and political education in colleges and universities at present

The Cop21 Agreement: A Giant Illusion?

The policy sciences, enquiring into the making and implementation of public decisions, has made several stunning findings that are highly relevant to the COP21 Agreement or Treaty if you so wish. They constitute the so-called “implementation gap” or the “hiatus of policy implementation”, analysed by late American Aaron Wildavsky and also Paul Sabatier. The enormous enthusiasm for the COP21 framework must be dampened when confronted with the lessons from policy implementation, especially in such an extremely decentralised approach taking place over so many years. But the signatories have to decide now how to halt the increase in greenhouse gases (GHG), especially the CO2:s in order to start decreasing them, hopefully (naively) to zero in 80 years. As the emergence of economically viable renewable energy is slow, the only quick solution is to remove coal as an energy source. That would resolve the star economist Jeffrey Sachs dilemma that decarbonisation would result in negative economic growth

The Presuppositional Mechanism and Truth Conditions of Adversative Constructions in Chinese

In Modern Chinese adversative constructions, the propositions p (preceding clause) and q (following clause) often do not display a direct opposition at the level of surface semantics. The establishment of adversative meaning relies on a direct conflict between a presupposed element generated by p and the surface semantics of q. When p contains multiple presuppositions, these presupposed elements exhibit a hierarchical, incremental structure and jointly constitute, within the common ground, the cognitive preconditions for the validity of the adversative relation. An adversative marker can obtain truth value only when a certain presupposed element is semantically closest to q and stands in opposition to it. The hierarchy of presuppositions, the common ground, and the selection mechanism of the key presupposed element together form the truth-conditional model for adversative markers, thereby explaining the underlying reason why the adversative logic of constructions lacking direct surface-semantic opposition can nonetheless be established

A Comparative Study of The Bell Jar and The Catcher in the Rye from the Perspective of Bildungsroman

This paper explores the confusions and challenges encountered by young people in their growth through a comparative study of The Bell Jar and The Catcher in the Rye. The growth of young people is influenced by multiple factors such as social changes, family pressure, gender cognition and psychological predicaments. Esther and Holden exhibit distinct personality traits and coping styles when faced with confusion. This paper points out that adolescent growth literature should reflect the challenges and confusions teenagers encounter in real life and shape authentic, three-dimensional characters in order to guide young people to better cope with challenges and achieve healthy growth

Research on the Legal Positioning and Implementation Mechanism of China’s Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals under the Paris Agreement

The proposal of China’s “dual carbon” goals holds dual international legal implications within the framework of the Paris Agreement: it constitutes both a treaty-based performance of obligations and a unilateral legal act under international law. The Paris Agreement establishes a compliance mechanism centered on nationally determined contributions (NDCs), supplemented by a transparency framework and global stocktake. Its legal characteristics are facilitative, non-confrontational, and procedural. Within this institutional structure, the “dual carbon” goals, as China’s NDC commitments, are subject to international review through the enhanced transparency framework and participate in collective effort assessment under the global stocktake mechanism. From the perspective of international treaty law, this paper analyzes the international legal positioning of the “dual carbon” goals, elucidates the legal structure of the Paris Agreement’s compliance mechanism, and explores China’s legal pathways for implementation, including the fulfillment of transparency obligations, participation mechanisms in the compliance committee, and the synergy between domestic and international law. The study argues that China should uphold the jurisprudential foundation of the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities” and construct an integrated domestic and international compliance legal system by “internalizing” international rules into domestic legislation and “externalizing” domestic rule-of-law practices into the creation of international rules

Research on the Application of Hedging Thinking in Enterprise Decision-making Risks

In today’s ever-changing business environment, market uncertainty has become the greatest challenge business decision-makers face. Traditional prediction models are experiencing an unprecedented crisis of failure, and the limitations of empiricism have been fully exposed in the ever-changing market changes. This dramatic change not only subverts the existing business perception but also fundamentally alters the underlying logic of enterprise strategy formulation. Facing such an unpredictable market environment, business leaders urgently need to establish a brand-new risk management thinking system. As a forward-looking risk control mechanism, the core value of hedging strategy lies in constructing a multi-dimensional defense system. This strategy achieves a dynamic balance of risk exposure by establishing mutually restrictive business portfolios, thereby creating a relatively stable development space for the enterprise in the face of uncertainties. Modern hedging strategies have evolved from simple financial instruments to an important component of corporate strategic management. It requires managers to have acute market insight and rapid response ability, be able to identify risk hedging points in complex environments, and establish corresponding business buffer mechanisms. The cultivation of this ability has become a key indicator of contemporary enterprise leadership
