The issue of sustainability of green products has garnered significant attention within both societal and business spheres. In essence, green products constitute a crucial consideration in marketing. The development of various marketing methods has contributed to diverse public perceptions as well as eco-friendly products widely available on the market. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the influence of green practice, green image, green trust, and purchase intention. Furthermore, this study also investigated green image and green trust as a mediator in the relationship between green practices and purchase intention while also exploring the moderating role of environmental awareness in this relationship.  A total of 393 Muslim consumers from 10 provinces with the largest Muslim majority in Indonesia were selected to fill out an online questionnaire. The collected data was processed using AMOS-v26 and SPSS v25. The results demonstrated that green image and green trust mediate the relationship between green practices and green purchase intention. Meanwhile, environmental awareness was found to moderate the indirect relationship among the variables of green practices, green image, green trust, and green purchase intention. These findings contribute to the strengthening of self-congruity theory. This study also contributes to theoretical and contextual knowledge related to the perceptions and behavior of Muslim consumers regarding the consumption of green products, offering valuable business considerations for practitioners

Examining the Determinants of Ecological Footprint in ASEAN-5 Countries

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the ecological footprint as a crucial indicator for assessing the environmental impact of human activities, particularly in the manufacturing sector, household consumption, and agriculture in five ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines). The novelty of this study lies in the empirical analysis of the relationship between the ecological footprint and major sectors in ASEAN countries using panel data for 22 years (2000–2022). This study uses panel data regression with moderating variables to test the interaction between independent variables and the ecological footprint. The findings indicate that the manufacturing sector has a significant effect on the ecological footprint. The manufacturing sector can reduce its ecological footprint by implementing energy efficiency technologies and using environmentally friendly raw materials. Meanwhile, household consumption does not have a direct effect, but under specific circumstances, it can affect the ecological footprint, particularly the consumption of goods or services that excessively utilize natural resources and are not readily recyclable. The agricultural sector tends to increase its ecological footprint due to inappropriate practices, such as forest burning for agricultural expansion. The conversion of natural land to agricultural land also increases the levels of hazardous substances such as nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil, which have a significant impact on the ecosystem. The findings of this study provide new insights into effective governance strategies to support sustainable development. This study demonstrates that governance plays a major role in managing ecological footprints, emphasizing the significance of government intervention. The implication of this study is the need for policies that support environmentally friendly practices to reduce ecological footprints in the ASEAN-5 countries

Board Chairman Characteristics and Performance of Islamic Banks: Evidence From Islamic Banks in Indonesia and Malaysia

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of chairman characteristics—specifically age, gender, and education level—on the performance of Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia. The motivation for this research stems from the limited and mixed findings in existing literature regarding the role of leadership traits in shaping bank performance, especially in the context of Islamic banking. This research aims to fill the gap by analyzing how these specific characteristics influence the strategic decisions and overall performance of banks in these two countries, which are home to some of the largest Islamic banks globally. The key finding of this study is that while the age of the chairman significantly impacts performance, gender and education level do not show a notable effect. Methodology: The study employed a quantitative research methodology, using panel data from Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia from 2015-2020. A panel data regression model was utilized to assess the influence of chairman characteristics on bank performance based on financial indicators such as return on assets (ROA). Data were collected from publicly available financial reports over a period of several years, and the characteristics of each chairman, such as age, gender, and education level, were analyzed in relation to these performance. Findings: The results of the regression analysis show that the age of the chairman has a significant positive relationship with bank performance. Older chairmen appear to contribute to better decision-making and long-term strategy formulation, which in turn improves the performance of Islamic banks. However, the gender and education level of the chairman were found to have no significant impact on the performance of these banks during the research period. This suggests that experience, reflected in age, plays a more crucial role than gender or educational background in determining bank performance.  Novelty: This study provides valuable insights into the role of leadership chairman characteristics in Islamic banks, with a focus on the importance of age as a key predictor of bank performance. By contrasting the effect of age with gender and education, this research contributes to the ongoing debate about leadership in the financial sector. The novelty lies in its focus on the specific context of Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia, offering a regional perspective on how leadership traits influence bank success. Future research could further explore additional leadership traits or examine a larger dataset across different regions to strengthen these findings

    Get PDF
Research Aims: This study explores the role of halal certification in fostering business growth within the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector. Addressing a gap in the literature on the impact of halal certification on MSME performance, it examines its influence on competitiveness, profitability, and market expansion. Methodology: The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, gathering relevant articles published between 2019 to 2024 from the Google Scholar database. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) model is utilized to guide the collected studies’ identification, selection, and filtration processes. Research Findings: The findings indicate that halal certification significantly supports MSME operations and enhances product continuity. Consumers are more likely to purchase halal-certified MSME products, positively impacting revenue and sales growth. However, price remains a dominant factor in consumer purchasing decisions, even though halal certification is crucial for meeting Muslim consumer standards. Theoretical Contribution: This study contributes to the literature by shifting the focus from large corporations to MSMEs. It emphasizes halal certification’s economic and operational implications, highlighting its role in attracting Muslim consumers, enhancing market confidence, and fostering MSME growth and sustainability in the global halal market. Research Limitation and Implication: The research is limited to Google Scholar studies within a specific timeframe, possibly excluding relevant findings from other sources. It emphasizes the importance of integrating halal certification into MSME strategies to meet sharia standards, enhance market performance, and provide valuable insights for policymakers and halal industry practitioners

    Get PDF
Background: The increasing significance of sharia economics in Indonesia necessitates a thorough understanding of the judicial processes involved in resolving related disputes. This paper focuses on a specific case, sharia economic dispute No. 398/Pdt.G/2021/PA.Btl, to explore the judge\u27s considerations and the legal frameworks at play. Objectives: The primary objective of this research is to analyze the judge’s considerations in the resolution of the mentioned sharia economic dispute. It aims to assess whether these considerations align with existing legal frameworks and principles, particularly in relation to the murabahah contract. Novelty: This study contributes to the existing body of literature by providing an empirical normative analysis of a real case, highlighting discrepancies between judicial considerations and legal sources. It underscores the need for consistency in applying legal principles within sharia economic disputes, thereby filling a gap in current academic discussions. Research Methodology: The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing empirical normative research techniques. Primary data is gathered from relevant dispute decisions, while secondary data consists of legal texts and scholarly readings. The analysis follows a deductive method, employing Gustav Radbruch’s theory of legal certainty to evaluate the findings. Findings: The study reveals that the dispute was initiated as an ordinary lawsuit but could have been resolved through a simpler process as outlined in PERMA No. 4 of 2019. Furthermore, the judge\u27s considerations did not adequately reflect the specifics of the murabahah contract. The analysis indicates a failure to adhere to the hierarchy of positive legal sources, including a lack of reference to the KHES, resulting in a violation of the principle of legal certainty. Implication: The findings suggest a critical need for judges in sharia economic disputes to align their considerations with established legal frameworks to uphold legal certainty. This study advocates for enhanced judicial training and clearer guidelines to ensure consistent application of laws in sharia finance, ultimately contributing to the stability and integrity of sharia economic practices in Indonesia
