Exploring Determinant Factors Contributing to Students’ Choices in Selecting English Study Program (A Study at English Study Program of FKIP Tanjungpura University in Pontianak)
No full textThis study aims at exploring the determinant factors contributing to students’ choice in selecting English Study Program (A Study on English Study Program at FKIP Tanjungpura University in Pontianak). It has been noticed that some of the students have a low qualification of English skill, therefore, it has become a problem for those students to follow the lesson. It has assumed that the students do not have sufficient information on their selection of choosing English Study Program. The problems of this study are: (1) What are the determinant factors influenced the students’ choice in selecting the English study program of FKIP University of Tanjungpura in Pontianak ?. And (2) What are the dominant determinant factors influenced the students’ choice in selecting the English study program of FKIP at the University of Tanjungpura in Pontianak ?. The purposes of the study are: (1) to find out the determinant factors influenced the students’ choice of selecting the English study program, (2) to identify the dominant determinant factors influenced the students’ choice in selecting the English study program, and (3) to identify the deviation attitudes of the students in selecting English study program. The method uses questionnaires which contain some information to be answered by the students. There are 30 respondents as a sample of this research. The findings show that (1) the determinant factors are: a personal choice, the reputation of faculty, the reputation of the study program, teachers and parents, and a location. Meanwhile, the dominant determinant factors are (1) a personal choice (137), the reputation of the study program (119), teachers (111) and parents (107)
Pengaruh Penerapan Learning Cycle 7e dengan Media Kotak Dadu Pada Kemampuan Menulis Teks Eksposisi
Get PDFTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model learning cycle 7e dengan media kotak dadu bahasa Indonesia pada siswa kelas VIII SMPN 5 Wonomulyo. Populasi penelitian eksperimental ini adalah seluruh kelas VIII SMPN 5 Wonomulyo yaitu 127 orang yang terdiri dari lima kelas. Sampel penelitian adalah 23 orang kelas VIII A dan 23 orang kelas VIII B menggunakan instrumen tes dan non tes. Analisis statistik deskriptif dan infrensial merupakan teknik yang digunakan dalam menganalisis hasil penelitian. Hasil analisis inferensial pada kelas kontrol diperoleh hasil p-value = 0,200 sedangkan untuk uji normalitas pada kelas eksperimen diperoleh hasil p-value = 0,200 Baik p-value> α = 0,05 sehingga kesimpulan yang ditemukan adalah bahwa data hasil belajar siswa pada kedua kelas diperoleh. dari populasi yang berdistribusi normal dan signifikansi 0,292> 0,05 berarti populasi tersebut homogen. Kemudian hasil uji t menunjukkan sig 0,006 <0,05 maka terjadi penolakan H0 dan menerima H1. Sehingga kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan model Learning Cycle 7e dengan media kotak dadu bahasa Indonesia berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks eksposisi siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 5 Wonomulyo Kabupaten Polewali Mandar
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE, DISCIPLINE AND WORK MOTIVATION TO ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR (OCB) EMPLOYEES

The research aims to determine effect of organizational culture, discipline and motivation to OCB employees of PT. BPR Nur Semesta Indah, Jember Regency. The sampling method using saturated sampling technique with a sample size of 84 employees (Central and Branch). The analysis method used is multiple linear regression. The outcome analysis of the data explained that variables of organizational culture, discipline and motivation have significant influences on organizational citizenship behavior partially. And Simultaneously, organizational culture, discipline and motivation variables have significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior. The result of coefficient determination test shows that the variables of organizational culture, discipline and motivation have an effect of 84.9% on organizational citizenship behavior. And 15.1% remaining has influenced other variables which is not explained in thisreseach, such as style of leadership, organizational commitment and so on
Impact of Employee Engagement on Performance at A Pump Supplier
Get PDFThe study aimed to investigate the impact of employee engagement on performance at a South African pump supplier. The research adopted a qualitative study and a non-probability purposeful sampling technique with a target population of ten employees at the company. It examined the factors that contributed to the development of employees’ engagement and the effect of engagement on employee performance. The research instrument used interview and was analyzed qualitatively. Key findings revealed that the employees at the company are disengaged due to ineffective leadership, poor communication between management and employees, lack of a recognition system, inadequate employee participation in decision-making, and an absence of a strategic and coordinated approach to the employees’ well-being. Recommendations were that the organization should allow its workforce to provide input in the decision-making of the organization, improve effective and transparent internal communication, employee development and empowerment, and an effective recognition system. Leaders should support the effective utilization of employee skills and capabilities. The study showed that there is a relationship between employee engagement and performance due to the lack of employee engagement that lowered employee capability and affected the organization's bottom line. Designing and implementing an effective employee engagement strategy is, therefore, desirable to the employee and organizational performance
The Importance of Self-Esteem to Students Learning Responsibilities and Group Learning Commitment of Physical Education Students
Get PDFThis study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and learning responsibility and group learning commitment of physical education students. We used a quantitative approach, with a correlation design. During the research, there were 88 physical education students from semester VI involved. In collecting the data, we used the State Self-Esteem Scale from Heatherton and Polivy (1991), the Personal Responsibility Questionnaire from Mergler (2007), and the Organization Commitment Scale from Allen and Meyer (1990). The research data were analyzed descriptively and used Pearson correlation with the assistance of SPSS. The descriptive test revealed that self-esteem is quite good (67%), responsibility for learning is relatively good (54.6%), and students’ group learning commitment is quite good (65.9%). Whereas, the Pearson test indicated that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-esteem and learning responsibilities (0.468) and the students’ group learning commitment (0.282). This study emphasizes that lecturers and peers need to support, maintain, and develop positive self-esteem through supportive feedback to encourage students’ learning behavior, such as being responsible and committed to group learning in completing various learning tasks
Improving Students’ Critical Thinking Skills Trough Contextual Teaching and Learning Science Module
Get PDFThis study aims to determine the effectiveness of the science module based on the contextual learning approach (CTL) in improving the critical thinking skills of junior high school students. The research method used was a quasi-experimental study involving 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class from a junior high school in Surakarta. The data collection technique was done by measuring students' critical thinking skills before (pretest) and after learning using the Science module (posttest). The instrument used was a critical thinking skill test based on Facione's critical thinking skills indicator. The improvement of students 'critical thinking skills was analyzed using a pretest-posttest gain score and followed by an independent sample t-test to determine the significance of the difference in the average increase in students' critical thinking skills. The results showed that the use of a science module based on a contextual learning approach could improve students' critical thinking skills, with a score of 0.46, or in the category of moderate improvement compared to control class students, with a score of 0.29, or in the low improvement category. Meanwhile, based on the results of the t-test the average gain score of the two classes shows a significant difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between students who are taught using the Science module and students who are taught using conventional modules
ETNOMATEMATIKA: IDENTIFIKASI BATIK GAJAH OLING BERDASARKAN KONSEP GEOMETRI

Ethnomathics is a multicultural mathematics activity that uses culture to make connections with distinctive mathematical topics, so as to motivate students to investigate and preserve their own culture while learning mathematics. The purpose of this research is to explore the ethnomatematics contained in Gajah Oling batik based on the concept of geometry and to produce teaching material products in the form of student project sheets. This type of research is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. The data collection methods used were observation and interviews. The research subjects were 1 person, namely a designer and an isen-isen batik maker from Gajah Oling. Ethnomatematics appears both in the results of batik and in the process of making designs and isen-isen. At the isen-isen stage, the concept of points and lines appears, while at the stage of making Gajah Oling's batik designs, the concepts of angles, flat shapes, congruence and congruence, geometric transformations which include translation, rotation, reflection, and dilation appear.Keywords: Ethnomatematic, Gajah Oling’s Batik, Geometry, Geometry Transformatio
Meta Analisis Model Discovery Learning Untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar IPA Siswa SD
Get PDFPenggunaan model discovery learning membawa banyak pengaruh dalam dunia pendidikan bagi guru, salah satunya pada hasil belajar IPA siswa SD. Hasil tersebut dapat dilihat dari hasil beberapa penelitian. Penelitian-penelitian yang telah membuktikan serta menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan hasil belajar setelah menggunakan model discovery learning, maka fokus penelitian ini yaitu apakah penggunaan model discovery learning dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar IPA siswa SD. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kembali penggunaan model discovery learning untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar IPA siswa SD dengan merumuskan hipotesis, mengumpulkan data, menguji hipotesis dan merumuskan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode meta analisis yang merangkum dari berbagai hasil penelitian dengan studi dokumen data penelitian dari jurnal terkait penggunaan model discovery learning yang dipublikasikan di jurnal Nasional. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan non tes yaitu dengan menelusuri jurnal elektronik melalui Google Cendekia dan Google Scholar serta studi dokumentasi di perpustakaan. Dari hasil penelusuran diperoleh 9 artikel serta 3 skripsi yang terkait dengan model discovery learning. Hasil uji tsig.(2-tailed) (0,000) < α (0,05) dan thitung = -13,566 <ttabel =1.78229 sehingga Ho di tolak. Hasil analisis ternyata model discovery learning mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar IPA siswa mulai dari yang terendah 22% sampai yang tertinggi 55% dengan rata-rata 34%. Dari perhitungan effect size terhadap 9 artikel serta 3 skripsi yang telah di analisis dihasilkan effect size rata-rata sebesar 4,73. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa model discovery learning sangat berpengaruh positif terhadap hasil belajar IPA siswa
Penerapan Model Kooperatif Tipe Roundtable untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Menulis Drama Siswa Kelas VIII F SMPN 11 Pontianak
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan penerapan model roundtable dalam pembelajaran menulis drama di kelas VIII F SMPN 11 POntianak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII F SMPN 11 Pontianak. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, studi dokumenter, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan teknik kuantitaf dan kualitatif dengan perhitungan persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model roundtable efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran menulis drama karena dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Hal ini ditandai dengan peningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada tiap siklus. Siklus I 68,2 atau 42% dan siklus II 85,2 atau 90%
