Phylogenetic aspects in the higher classification of the subfamily Catocalinae (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).
The subfamily Catocalinae is shown to be based on a typological concept. A re-evaluation of the subfamily as a whole is not yet possible. Thus, it appears appropriate to define smaller monophyletic units within the subfamily. Based on the shape of the internal female genitalia (ductus receptaculi), it is shown that the Euclidiini form a monophylum. We do not think that it is advisable to incorporate the Melipotini and Eulepidotini in that monophylum, as we could not find any synapomorphies for these tribes, which proved to be rather different structurally
Further morphological characters for a phylogenetic classification of the Noctuidae (Lepidoptera).
The authors describe seven characters which provide useful information for phylogenetic analyses in the family Noctuidae and which had not been sufficiently evaluated by previous authors. These characters include (1) the microscopic and submicroscopic structure of the tip of the proboscis, (2) the structure of the male subcostal retinaculum, (3) the position of the male genitalic muscle 4, (4) development of the dorsal phragma on the second abdominal segment, (5) presence of sclerotized ridges on the abdominal tergites and sternites, (6) the presence of pre-abdominal brush-organs, and (7) certain modifications of the internal female genitalia. Using these characters, the authors provide arguments for the monophyly of the camptolomine-chloephorine- sarrothripine-noline lineage, and for the probable monophyly of a complex consisting of the so-called \u27trifine\u27 noctuids, including the Bryophilinae and possibly the Acronictinae and Pantheinae

Based on the study of literature records and recent collections an up-dated check list including 58 species is presented for the island of Taiwan. At least four of the literature records need further confirmation before acceptance. For each species is given original citation, synonyms, literature records from Taiwan, and gross distributions. Locality data is given for the 13 species here reported from Taiwan for the first time. Bidessus gentilis Sharp, 1890, is considered a junior synonym of Pseuduvarus vitticollis (Boheman, 1848) syn. n., here reported from the Oriental Region for the first time. The following genera are recorded from Taiwan for the first time: Allopachria, Pseuduvarus, Leiodytes, Nebrioporus, and Neptosternus
Being founded on the holotype the authors give a redescription of Campyloneura recondita Lengersdorf, 1939, a species which has never mentioned again since it was described. As the genotype recondita shows all characters of the genus Polyardis Pritchard, 1947. That name becomes a later synonym of Campyloneura Lengersdorf

= Oxypoda (Cyrtonychochaeta) hoelzeli Scheerpeltz, 1947; Cyrtonychochaeta falsa Lohse, 1968 syn. n. = Oxypoda (Cyrtonychochaeta) nimbicola Fauvel, 1900; Cyrtonychochaeta breiti Scheerpeltz, 1957 syn. n. = Oxypoda (Podoxya) tirolensis Gredler, 1863; Cyrtonychochaeta peezi Scheerpeltz, 1957 syn. n. = Oxypoda (Podoxya) tirolensis Gredler, 1863. Nomenklatorische Handlungenbreiti Scheerpeltz, 1957 (Cyrtonychochaeta), syn. n. of Oxypoda tirolensis Gredler, 1863falsa Lohse, 1968 (Cyrtonychochaeta), syn. n. of Oxypoda (Cyrtonychochaeta) nimbicola Fauvel, 1900fugaevaccarum Lohse, 1968 (Cyrtonychochaeta), syn. n. of Oxypoda (Cyrtonychochaeta) hoelzeli (Scheerpeltz, 1947)peezi Scheerpeltz, 1957 (Cyrtonychochaeta), syn. n. of Oxypoda tirolensis Gredler, 1863comellinii Lohse, 1970 (Oxypoda), syn. n. of Oxypoda densa (Fauvel, 1900)confusa Ganglbauer, 1895 (Oxypoda), Lectotype now a synonym of Oxypoda tirolensis Gredler, 1863densa (Fauvel, 1900) (Oxypoda), Lectotype described as Hygropora densaglacialis Scheerpeltz, 1956 (Oxypoda), syn. n. of Oxypoda densa (Fauvel, 1900)tirolensis Gredler, 1863 (Oxypoda), Lectotypehoelzeli (Scheerpeltz, 1947) (Oxypoda (Cyrtonychochaeta)), comb. n. hitherto Cyrtonychochaeta hoelzeliA revision of the Oxypoda subgenus Cyrtonychochaeta Scheerpeltz, 1947, stat. n., and of alpine species of the subgenus Podoxya Mulsant & Rey, 1875 (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae). Cyrtonychochaeta Scheerpeltz, 1947 is recognized as a subgenus of Oxypoda Mannerheim, 1831 (comb. et stat. n.). Synonymie der revidierten Taxa. - Lectotypes are designated for the following species: Oxypoda tirolensis Gredler, 1863, Oxypoda confusa Ganglbauer, 1895 and Hygropora densa Fauvel, 1900. Based on constitutive characters the subgenus Cyrtonychochaeta and the Oxypoda tirolensis-group are recognized as monophyla. Their respective sister groups remain unknown. - Diagnostic keys allowing identification of the species are provided. The two species of the subgenus Cyrtonychochaeta are illustrated in detail; drawings of the genitalia are presented for the two species of the Oxypoda tirolensis-group. All the revised records are listed, and the distribution of each species is mapped. Oxypoda densa is new to the Central European fauna.
Nomenklatorische Handlungensikhotealinensis Pütz &Lafer, 1995 (Exomella), spec. n.The first Palaearctic species of Exomella Casey, 1914, a genus previously known to contain only two species from the Western Nearctic region (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia), is described from the Sikhote-Alin mountain range in the Russian Far East: Exomella sikhotealinensis sp. n. Both the new species and the Nearctic species Exomella pleuralis (Casey, 1908) and Exomella merickeli Johnson, 1985, are illustrated; ecological, phenological and zoogeographical data as well as a diagnostic key are provided. The relationships between the Nearctic and the Palaearctic species are discussed, and the phylogenetic system of the genus is presented. Lioon simplicipes (Mannerheim, 1852), presumably the sister group, is included in the study. The tribe Exomini Casey, 1912, is revalidated.
The phylogenetically old monophylum Exomella is an example of a group of Asiamerican origin. The Catopocerinae (Coleoptera, Leiodidae) and some members of the Grylloblattida and the Blattoidea represent similar examples of such origin and recent distribution.
