The species of predaceous diving beetles (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae) ocurring in the Kuril Archipelago in the northwest Pacific are reviewed. Based on literature records, the study of museum collections, and material from recent expeditions 24 species are known from the archipelago. A detailed report is given on the 357 adult and 50 larval specimens collected in the South and Mid Kuril Islands by the joint American-Japanese-Russian expeditions in 1994 and 1995. The following five species are here recorded from the Kurils for the first time: Hydroporus uenoi Nakane, Platambus pictipennis (Sharp), Agabus japonicus Sharp, Ilybius nakanei Nilsson, and Graphoderus zonatus (Hoppe). The number of species recorded on individual islands ranged from 1 to 11, with the largest islands at either end of the Greater Kuril Ridge being the most diverse. The South Kurils are dominated by Ussurian-Japanese species known also from Sakhalin and Hokkaido, whereas the North Kuril fauna includes a high proportion of Holarctic or Palearctic species known also from Kamchatka

Relationships of the Megamerinidae (Diptera: Nerioidea).

    Get PDF
The recent Megamerinidae are here restricted to the genera Megamerina Rondani and Texara Walker. A more inclusive concept of the Megamerinidae (sensu Hendel) is characterised by a set of 7 apomorphic character states. This set is shown to have been separately derived almost in its entirety as a convergent cluster in 10 different schizophoran taxa, other than those included by Hendel. The set therefore has little phylogenetic significance. Though the Megamerinidae are often placed in the superfamily Diopsoidea (subjective syn. Nothyboidea), morphological evidence is presented to indicate a closer relationship to the Nerioidea. The relationships of the fossil and Recent genera are considered

After the publication of the paper on Trogaspidia floralis and related species (Nonveiller & Petersen, 1995) it has been established that Mutilla bioculata, used by Sichel & Radoszkowski to described an African species, was preoccupied for an American Mutillid and has been changed by Dalla Torre (1897) in his Catalogue in Mutilla heideri

(= Craesus Leach, 1817); Dosytheus Leach, 1817, syn. nov. (= Dolerus Panzer, 1801); Phaenusa Cameron, 1875, syn. nov. und Phoenusa Ed. André, 1880, syn. nov. (= Fenusa Leach, 1817); Pristis Brullé, 1846, syn. nov. (= Mesoneura Hartig, 1837); Anatoliroa Muche, 1983 syn. nov. (= Seljukia Benson, 1966). = exoleta Erichson, 1840; huetheri Scheerpeltz, 1956 = exoleta Erichson, 1840; hoelzeli Scheerpeltz, 1963 syn. n. = skalitzkyi Bernhauer, 1902; carnica Scheerpeltz, 1956 syn. n. = brevicornis (Stephens, 1832); glacialis Scheerpeltz, 1956 = densa (Fauvel, 1900); carnorum Scheerpeltz, 1958 = bicolor Mulsant & Rey, 1853. Für die Arten Oxypoda alni Bernhauer, 1940, Oxypoda huetheri Scheerpeltz, 1956, Oxypoda hoelzeli Scheerpeltz, 1963, und Oxypoda carnica Scheerpeltz, 1956, werden Lectotypen designiert.Nomenklatorische Handlungenalni Bernhauer, 1940 (Oxypoda), Lectotypeignorata Zerche, 1996 (Oxypoda (Oxypoda)), spec. n.bavarica Scheerpeltz, 1956 (Oxypoda (Podoxya)), syn. n. of Oxypoda (Podoxya) exoleta Erichson, 1840carnica Scheerpeltz, 1956 (Oxypoda (Podoxya)), Lectotype; syn. n. of Oxypoda (Podoxya) brevicornis (Stephens, 1832)hoelzeli Scheerpeltz, 1963 (Oxypoda (Podoxya)), Lectotype; syn. n. of Oxypoda (Podoxya) skalitzkyi Bernhauer, 1902huetheri Scheerpeltz, 1956 (Oxypoda (Podoxya)), Lectotype now a synonym of Oxypoda (Podoxya) exoleta Erichson, 1840The studies of alpine and montane Oxypoda species include: 1. On Oxypoda alni Bernhauer, 1940; 2. A new species of the subgenus Oxypoda s. str.; 3. On the synonymy of Oxypoda species described by Scheerpeltz from the Alps. The poorly known species Oxypoda alni Bernhauer is redescribed, aedeagus and spermatheca are figured for the first time. - Oxypoda ignorata sp. n. is described and separated from Oxypoda opaca (Gravenhorst). - A revision of the types of Oxypoda species described by Scheerpeltz from the Alps yielded the following synonymies: bavarica Scheerpeltz, 1956 syn. n. = exoleta Erichson, 1840; huetheri Scheerpeltz, 1956 = exoleta Erichson, 1840; hoelzeli Scheerpeltz, 1963 syn. n. = skalitzkyi Bernhauer, 1902; carnica Scheerpeltz, 1956 syn. n. = brevicornis (Stephens, 1832); glacialis Scheerpeltz, 1956 = densa (Fauvel, 1900); carnorum Scheerpeltz, 1958 = bicolor Mulsant & Rey, 1853.
