A total number of 48 species and subspecies belonging to 18 genera and 8 subfamilies of Buprestidae are reported from Albania. 15 taxa marked by asterisk in the text are new for the country\u27s fauna. Including the new records, the number of jewel beetles known from the Albanian territory has increased to 111. The new localities for the reported buprestids are listed. A zoogeographical analysis based on all known Albanian jewel beetles is presented. The dominance of Mediterranean elements indicates a high impact of the Mediterranean fauna on the Albanian buprestid communities.KeywordsColeoptera, Buprestidae, Albania, Mediterranean, Faunistics, Zoogeography

StichwörterMordellistena weisei, Mordellistena bicoloripilosa, Mordellidae, taxonomy, genital structure, parameres, coloration, variability, Artemisia vulgaris, stem miners.Mordellistena weisei Schilsky and M. bicoloripilosa Ermisch (Col., Mordellidae), stemmining mordellid beetles in Artemisia vulgaris (Asteraceae), have frequently been confused in faunistic studies and not always differentiated in biocoenological investigations. In order to help distinguish the males of the two species, the parameres and the coloration of the head and the profemora are described. An analysis of these features shows that the two species can be distinguished by the shape of their parameres, but not by their coloration. Paramere size did not depend on body size in either species.KeywordsMordellistena weisei, Mordellistena bicoloripilosa, Mordellidae, taxonomy, genital structure, parameres, coloration, variability, Artemisia vulgaris, stem miners

The karyotypes of three sibling species, Nasonia vitripennis (Walker, 1836), N. longicornis Darling, 1990 and N. giraulti Darling, 1990 were examined, the latter two species for the first time. All species have chromosome numbers of n=5 and 2n=10, their chromosomes being metacentric. The distribution of constitutive heterochromatin also appears to be similar in the genus Nasonia Ashmead, 1904. However, statistical karyotypic differences between studied species were revealed using chromosome morphometrics. These data are consistent with the order of divergence in the Nasonia complex found on the basis of molecular studies

StichwörterDiptera, Sciaridae, Germany, biodiversity, faunistics, check list, locality list.Faunistic analyses have produced new information on the distribution and diversity of the Sciaridae in Germany. One result of this has been the preparation of an extensively revised and greatly enlarged check list of the black fungus gnats of Germany, in which all sciarid records from the entire territory of the Federal Republic are included [cut-off date 31 December 1998]. The present work is based on some 141,000 adult gnats from 20 museums and private collections in Germany. Numerous previously unpublished records are included, based on personal faunistic investigations or on the revision of historic collections. Furthermore, samples made available by 56 entomologists from all parts of Germany have been evaluated, and these contained very numerous specimens. - The sciarid fauna of the Federal Republic of Germany now stands at 343 valid species in 24 genera, with 10 \u27species incertae sedis\u27. This up-to-date check list, which is based on the revised nomenclature and more stable classification put forward by Menzel & Mohrig (2000), reflects the current \u27state-of-the-art\u27 of the inventory of species in the Federal Republic of Germany. This publication contains a thoroughly revised and enlarged list of the literature sources. The results presented here have also made it possible to see more precisely how the German sciarid fauna fits into the recent fauna of the Palaearctic region and to make a faunistic comparison with the Sciaridae of certain other European countries.KeywordsDiptera, Sciaridae, Germany, biodiversity, faunistics, check list, locality list

A taxonomic and phylogenetic revision of Maorothiini trib. n. from the New Zealand subregion (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae, Staphylininae).

Insgesamt werden 20 Maorothius-Arten beschrieben bzw. redescribiert: M. adustus (Broun), comb. n., M. hamifer sp. n., M. setiger sp. n., M. longispinosus sp. n., M. brevispinosus sp. n., M. insulanus sp. n., M. brookesi (Cameron), comb. n., M. hammondi sp. n., M. pubescens sp. n., M. effeminatus sp. n., M. pectinatus sp. n., M. puncticeps (Broun), comb. n., M. coalitus sp. n., M. tridens sp. n., M. volans sp. n., M. dispar sp. n., M. brouni (Steel), comb. n., M. tonsor sp. n., M. torquatus sp. n. und M. solus sp. n. A phylogenetic analysis including the New Zealand species, all the genera of Othiini from the Holarctic region, several representative taxa of all other staphylinine tribes, and the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst of the Paederinae as outgroup yielded the following major results: (a) the New Zealand species form a monophylum; (b) Othius Stephens is a Palaearctic genus and not the sister group of the New Zealand species, but the adelphotaxon of the Holarctic monophylum Atrecus Jacquelin du Val + Caecolinus Jeannel + Parothius Casey; (c) a sister group relationship between the New Zealand species and Holarctic Othiini is doubtful, if not unlikely. Therefore, the tribe Maorothiini trib. n. is established to accommodate the New Zealand taxa previously attributed to Othius. The new tribe is attributed to the Staphylininae and distinguished from other tribes of the subfamily. It includes only the type genus Maorothius gen. n., whose designated type species is Othius adustus Broun and whose distribution is apparently confined to the New Zealand subregion. In all, 20 species of Maorothius are distinguished and (re-)described: M. adustus (Broun), comb. n., M. hamifer sp. n., M. setiger sp. n., M. longispinosus sp. n., M. brevispinosus sp. n., M. insulanus sp. n., M. brookesi (Cameron), comb. n., M. hammondi sp. n., M. pubescens sp. n., M. effeminatus sp. n., M. pectinatus sp. n., M. puncticeps (Broun), comb. n., M. coalitus sp. n., M. tridens sp. n., M. volans sp. n., M. dispar sp. n., M. brouni (Steel), comb. n., M. tonsor sp. n., M. torquatus sp. n., and M. solus sp. n. Lectotypes are designated for M. adustus (Broun), M. brookesi (Cameron), and M. brouni (Steel). The phylogenetic affiliations among the species of Maorothius are analyzed, discussed, and figured. Species-specific foraging strategies of the syntopical and synchronous bees Panurgus calcaratus (Scopoli, 1763) and Dasypoda hirtipes (Fabricius, 1793) (Hymenoptera: Apidae).

StichwörterInterspecific competition, oligolecty, optimal foraging strategies, photonasty, resource partitioning, separation mechanisms. Two ground-nesting, oligolectic bee species, Panurgus calcaratus (Scopoli, 1763) and Dasypoda hirtipes (Fabricius, 1793), which are syntopical and synchronous, were studied in the Wahner Heide Nature Reserve (Rhineland, Germany). To study mechanisms of ecological separation or niche differentiation the species-specific seasonal and diurnal rhythms and the foraging strategies were examined. In addition to provisioning behaviour, their oligolecty was examined by analysing pollen samples from females after flower-visiting and by observations of the bees on their pollen sources. Both species exclusively visit yellow, photonastic liguliflorous Asteraceae as pollen sources, prefer to construct their nests on sandy soils with poor vegetation and are active from the beginning of July until the end of August. Analysed samples show pollen grains belonging to yellow liguliflorous Asteraceae only and there was no specialisation within the oligolecty on certain plant species. Collection of pollen is limited by the photonastic flowers of the pollen sources, and the bee activity is mainly influenced by climatic factors like light intensity, cloudcover, and air-temperature. The diurnal activity period of Dasypoda hirtipes is much longer and this species is active at lower temperatures. The specific diurnal and seasonal behaviour and activity rhythm of the two bee species are discussed with regard to body size and coloration, the ability of heat absorption and reflection, risk of overheating, and ecto- and heterothermal effects to heat budgets. Each species follows its own foraging strategy which is mainly influenced and limited by ultimate factors as the bees` physiology under the given abiotic conditions. Neither nesting sites nor pollen and nectar resources are limited and consequently there is no evidence for competition between both species.KeywordsInterspecific competition, oligolecty, optimal foraging strategies, photonasty, resource partitioning, separation mechanisms

- Erstmals in Höhlen aufgefunden wurden 24 Arten (ebenfalls einschließlich der bereits vorab publizierten): Hypogastrura burkilli, Willemia intermedia, Xenyllodes armatus, Paranura sexpunctata, Pseudachorutes asigillata, Pseudachorutes corticicola, Pseudachorutes subcrassus, Neanura conjuncta, Onychiurus absoloni, Onychiurus heterodoxus, Onychiurus vanderdrifti, Onychiurus sublegans, Folsomia manolachei, Folsomia penicula, Isotoma fennica, Isotoma neglecta, Isotoma tigrina, Entomobrya marginata, Lepidocyrtus nigrescens, Orchesella longifasciata, Arrhopalites principalis, Arrhopalites troglophilus, Sminthurinus niger, Dicyrtoma minuta. Nomenklatorische Handlungentroglophilus Palissa, 2000 (Arrhopalites), spec. n.The Collembola of 102 caves in the German mountain ranges Harz, Kyffhäuser, Thüringer Wald and Zittauer Gebirge were investigated during the period 1988-1991. Most of the Collembola were collected with pitfall traps filled with ethylene glycol. Depending on the size of the caves, 1-20 traps per cave were used. - More then 30000 specimens of 82 species were captured. Some additional species are still unidentified. Arrhopalites troglophilus sp. n. is described. The zoogeographic and taxonomic characteristics of the recorded species are reviewed and critical species are discussed. - For the Schaefferia species, the distribution in the four mountain ranges is updated. - Tetrodontophora bielanensis is for the first time recorded from the Kyffhäuser, far north of the previously known range of the species.KeywordsCollembola, Diplura, Faunistics, Taxonomy, German highlands.Nomenclatural Actstroglophilus Palissa, 2000 (Arrhopalites), spec. n
