First descriptions of two new amber species of Cyphomyrmex from Mexico and the Dominican Republic (Hymenoptera: Formididae).
Nomenklatorische Handlungenmaya de Andrade, 2003 (Cyphomyrmex), spec. n.taino de Andrade, 2003 (Cyphomyrmex), spec. n.Two new amber species of Cyphomyrmex represented by a single specimen each are described. C. maya n. sp. is based on a single worker from Mexican amber. C. taino n. sp. is described on an alate gyne from Dominican amber. C. maya and taino are members of the rimosus group of Kempf (1964) and of the foxi subgroup of Snelling & Longino (1992). Among the two known Jamaican representatives of the foxi subgroup, C. maya resembles foxi. The worker of maya shares with the one of foxi developed mesosomal spines. C. maya can be easily differentiated from foxi mainly by the propodeum profile with two spiniform teeth instead of a longitudinal carina forming two succeeding obtuse teeth, by the shorter scapes, by the postpetiole with smaller and less pointed dorsal projections and by the smaller size. The gyne of taino resembles the gyne of foxi in general shape, but taino differs from foxi by its smaller size, by the shorter scapes and by the postpetiole with lower, much smaller and rounded dorsal projections. The gyne of taino also resembles the worker of maya in head shape, but taino can be easily distinguished from maya by the denser pilosity and sculpture.Nomenclatural Actsmaya de Andrade, 2003 (Cyphomyrmex), spec. n.taino de Andrade, 2003 (Cyphomyrmex), spec. n

A revision of Calodera Mannerheim. II. A new species, new synonyms, and additional records (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae).
StichwörterColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae, Oxypodini, Calodera, Palaearctic region, taxonomy, new species, new synonyms, new combination, new records.Nomenklatorische Handlungenperspicua Gistel, 1857 (Aleochara (Calodera)), syn. n. of Calodera aethiops (Gravenhorst, 1802)zerchei Assing, 2003 (Calodera), spec. n.Based on material that has become available since the first part of the revision, various new records of Calodera species are presented. C. zerchei sp. n., the first species from the Russian Far East, is described and distinguished from C. desdemona Sharp, a species recorded only from Japan. The following synonymies are proposed: Calodera Mannerheim, 1830 = Ityocara Thomson, 1867, syn. n.; Calodera aethiops (Gravenhorst, 1802) = Aleochara (Calodera) perspicua Gistel, 1857, syn. n. Calodera rubens Erichson, the type species of Ityocara, is transferred to Calodera again. The sexual characters of Calodera rubens, C. desdemona, and C. zerchei are illustrated. In the Holarctic region, 17 species of Calodera are recognized, 11 of them Western Palaearctic, 3 Eastern Palaearctic, and 3 Nearctic. So far all the species from other regions which were previously attributed to Calodera and which have been (re-)examined have proved to belong to other genera, which suggests that Calodera is a Holarctic genus.KeywordsColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae, Oxypodini, Calodera, Palaearctic region, taxonomy, new species, new synonyms, new combination, new records.Nomenclatural Actsperspicua Gistel, 1857 (Aleochara (Calodera)), syn. n. of Calodera aethiops (Gravenhorst, 1802)zerchei Assing, 2003 (Calodera), spec. n

The following genus group taxa are treated (number of species given in brackets): Acuatella gen. nov. [1], Bradysia [8], Chaetosciara [1], Corynoptera [2], Cratyna (Cratyna s. str.) [3], Cratyna (Spathobtella) [1], Epidapus (Epidapus) [1], Epidapus (Pseudoaptanogyna) [1], Epidapus (Clandestina subgen nov.) [2], Rhynchosciara [1], Scatopsciara (Scatopsciara s. str.) [1], Schwenckfeldina [2], Sciara [1], Trichosciara gen. nov. [1], Zygomma [5].
Most of the taxa are of South American affiliations and quite different from the Holarctic sciarid fauna. The Central American representatives of the cosmopolitan genera Sciara, Chaetosciara, Epidapus, Phytosciara, Pseudolycoriella, Schwenckfeldina and (for the most part) Bradysia are similar to species of the old World. The Central American species of the cosmopolitan subgenus Cratyna s. str. show more similarities to species from tropical areas of the Australian and Oriental region. Holarctic and/or Nearctic genera, like Leptociarella (Leptociarella s. str.), Corynoptera, Scatopsciara and Eugnoriste are represented in Central America only by few species. Bradysia, Cratyna, Pseudolycoriella, Pseudosciara, Zygomma, and Leptosciarella (subgenus Protosciarella) are diverse, common, and consequently typical Central American elements.
StichwörterSciaridae, Germany, Brandenburg, Berlin, biodiversity, ecology, faunistics, uprooted trees, uprooted rootsystems, new species, new records, check list.Nomenklatorische Handlungendebilis Menzel, 2003 (Epidapus (Pseudoaptanogyna)), spec. n.In the course of eco-faunistic studies on the insects visiting uprooted and exposed beech rootsystems (Fagus sylvatica L.), 2,192 Sciaridae belonging to 44 species were collected. Plastic collecting sheets and newly-designed eclectors for uprooted rootplates were used. Several species of Sciaridae new for the fauna of the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg (Germany) were found in this material and in the course of revisionary work on the Diptera collection of the \u27Deutsches Entomologisches Institut\u27. As a result, 32 species are newly recorded from Berlin and 83 species from Brandenburg. Detailed collection data are given for all the recorded species. For the first time, a check list for the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg is compiled, which reflects the current state of knowledge. It lists 174 species in 18 genera. Cratyna contracta Mohrig & Röschman, 1996 and Corynoptera compressa (Walker, 1848) are recorded from Central Europe for the first time. In addition, a new species - Epidapus debilis Menzel spec. nov. - is recognised, and is fully described and illustrated. The number of Sciaridae species known from Germany increases es to 360. The results are discussed in the final section of this paper. An analysis of the species inventory and of the collection methods, and new information on the ecology of selected species of Sciaridae are given.KeywordsSciaridae, Germany, Brandenburg, Berlin, biodiversity, ecology, faunistics, uprooted trees, uprooted rootsystems, new species, new records, check list.Nomenclatural Actsdebilis Menzel, 2003 (Epidapus (Pseudoaptanogyna)), spec. n
