(Kanada: Ontario, Quebec; USA: District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia), S. lucipetum sp. n. (Bahamas; Belize; Costa Rica; Kuba; USA: Florida), S. pullum sp. n. (Costa Rica), S. setipleurum sp. n. (Kanada: Neubraunschweig, Neuschottland, Ontario, Quebec; USA: Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia), S. balteatum sp. n. (Kanada: Ontario, Quebec; USA: District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin), S. hirtum sp. n. (Kanada: Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan; USA: Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Utah), S. artum sp. n. (Kanada: Alberta, Saskatchewan; USA: North Dakota), S. helvum sp. n. (Kanada: Alberta; USA: Montana), S. stylatum sp. n. (Kanada: Manitoba, Ontario; USA: Minnesota, Utah), S. minor sp. n. (USA: Arizona), S. vittatum sp. n. (USA: Kalifornien), S. sororium sp. n. (Mexiko) und S. humerale sp. n. (Kanada: Alberta, Britisch Kolumbien, Manitoba, Neufundland, Neuschottland, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan; USA: Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington; in der Paläarktis: - Lettland; Nord-Korea; Russland: Sibirien). StichwörterTaxonomy, Stiphrosoma, generic diagnosis, 13 new species, key, relationships, biology, distribution, wing polymorphism, New World.Nomenklatorische Handlungenartum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.balteatum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.helvum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.hirtum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.humerale Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.lucipetum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.minor Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.pectinatum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.pullum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.setipleurum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.sororium Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.stylatum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.vittatum Roháček & Barber, 2005 (Stiphrosoma), spec. n.The species of the genus Stiphrosoma Czerny, 1928 found in the New World are revised. (Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan; USA: Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington; in the Palaearctic - Latvia; North Korea; Russia: Siberia). Descriptions of all species are given along with illustrations of male and female terminalia and other diagnostic structures, and their relationships, biology and distribution are discussed. Occurrence of S. sabulosum in the Nearctic Region is discussed but its presupposed introduction from Europe has not been demonstrated. The Holarctic distribution of S. humerale is regarded as natural; the E. Palaearctic populations of S. humerale were formerly erroneously ascribed to S. laetum (Meigen, 1830). Wing polymorphism is described in two new species, viz. S. hirtum sp. n. and S. artum sp. n., as well as in S. sabulosum. The genus Stiphrosoma is newly diagnosed on the basis of all known species and its relationships are discussed. Stichwörter Diptera, Sciaroidea, Sciaridae, new genus, new species, Costa Rica.Nomenklatorische Handlungenbradysioides Jaschhof & Mohrig, 2005 (Manzumbadoa), spec. n.Manzumbadoa Jaschhof & Mohrig, 2005 (Sciaridae), gen. n.The sciarid Manzumbadoa bradysioides gen. et sp. n. from Costa Rica is described. Die Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) - Struktur, Aufgaben und Ziele.

    Get PDF
StichwörterBiodiversity information, international cooperation, internet, database, collection data, GBIF node. After more than three years of preparatory work by the OECD Megascience Forum, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) was officially established in 2001 with the goal to make scientific biodiversity data freely available and more useful by linking databases through the internet. As a worldwide research endeavour, GBIF currently has 47 countries and 29 international organisations as its members, all of which have committed themselves to share freely biodiversity data according to common standards through their own data nodes. The organisation is controlled by a Governing Board consisting of representatives from all members, supported by several committees and advisory groups. The GBIF Secretariat has been established since 2002 in Copenhagen, Denmark, which develops the international GBIF portal and assists members by coordinating and supporting activities, which are focussed on four program areas: Data Access and Database Interoperability (DADI), Digitisation of Natural History Collection Data (DIGIT), Electronic Catalogue of Names of Known Organisms (ECAT), and Outreach and Capacity Building (OCB). - For the national contribution to GBIF, seven data nodes have been established at different research institutions in Germany with support from the Federal Government (BMBF), which are responsible for different groups of organisms: 1. Insects (Evertebrata 1) at the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart; 2. Terrestrial invertebrates (Evertebrata 2) at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich; 3. Marine invertebrates (Evertebrata 3) at Senckenberg Research Institute and Museum in Frankfurt; 4. Vertebrates at the Zoological Research Institute and Museum Alexander Koenig in Bonn; 5. Plants (botany) at the Botanic Gardens and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem; 6. Fungi (mycology) at the Bavarian State Collection of Botany in Munich; 7. Microorganisms (Prokaryota) at the German National Resource Centre for Biological Material in Braunschweig. Different database systems currently in use at these differently oriented institutions for capturing specimen based information are briefly introduced.KeywordsBiodiversity information, international cooperation, internet, database, collection data, GBIF node

    Get PDF
StichwörterDermaptera, Ohrwurm, Datenbank, Earwigs-online, Internetdatenbank, Digitale Bibliothek. The website www.earwigs-online.de is dedicated exclusively to the Dermaptera (earwigs) and is based on a series of databases developed during the last ten years. The programming and integration of the databases proceeded together with the developing knowledge and requirements of the sole user, namely the author. Important incorporated features are an automatic facility for selecting key words and a digital library with 1,000 abstracts and articles. At present the databases contain approximately 16,000 entries on distribution, 4,000 literature citations, 7,200 key words and 5,000 names of taxa. As work proceeded, a number of advantages and disadvantages became clear. Disadvantages in a single project are the burdens of programming, safeguarding data and providing a link with the internet, together with small or absent financial support by sponsors and employers, as well as the non-availability of the data in larger portals. It proved advantageous to have the data constantly available, and to be able to publish these quickly in a freely combined form. The most important advantage is certainly the very existence of this database. Earwigs are not the focus of interest in zoology, medicine or agriculture. It is therefore unlikely that larger projects and institutions would have created these databases. A wealth of data would have remained unavailable.KeywordsDermaptera, Ohrwurm, Datenbank, Earwigs-online, Internetdatenbank, Digitale Bibliothek
