Repatriation of knowledge about insects and types through the DORSA virtual museum (Digital Orthoptera Specimen Access).
StichwörterOrthoptera, DORSA, SYSTAX, OSF, specimen database, type information, virtual museum, repatriation of knowledge.DORSA (Digital Orthoptera Specimen Access) is a virtual museum joining information on Orthoptera types and voucher specimens scattered over the major German museum collections in a single database. Data for about 16,000 specimen records including types and vouchers in over 4,000 species are searchable online via the SYSTAX database (www.biologie.uni-ulm.de/systax) which is linked to both the GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility)- and BIOCASE (Biological Collection Access Service for Europe)- portals. Roughly 8,000 type specimens (with about 2,300 primary types) are documented with over 30,000 images. 12,000 sound files are also available as are geographical information and maps of the specimens in the database. DORSA specimen information is reciprocally linked to the Orthoptera Species File (OSF) which forms the taxonomic backbone for all taxon names used by DORSA. All DORSA data are freely available on the world-wide web. In this way, the knowledge about type specimens collected since colonial times is repatriated to the countries of origin.KeywordsOrthoptera, DORSA, SYSTAX, OSF, specimen database, type information, virtual museum, repatriation of knowledge
Sciarid flies from Dominican Amber (Diptera, Sciaridae).
Nomenklatorische Handlungenarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.subarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.trichoarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.zimbabweensis Mohrig, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.antiqua Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.dimidiata Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.exoleta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.repentina Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysiopsis), spec. n.obsoleta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Chaetosciara), spec. n.iocosa Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.prisca Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.pristina Röschmann & Mohrig, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.interposita Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna), spec. n.villosoantennata Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna), spec. n.tempestiva Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna (Cratyna)), spec. n.adstrictosetus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.longisetus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.macrospinatus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.microspinus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.manifesta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Leptosciarella (Leptosciarella)), spec. n.Archicratyna Mohrig, 2005 (Sciaridae), gen. n.nova Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Trichosia (Moufettina)), spec. n.Results from this investigation describe 20 new fossil species from Dominican amber and one new genus with fossil and one recent species from Africa. The species belong to the following 8 genera: Trichosia (subgenus Mouffetina [1]); Leptosciarella (subgenus Leptosciarella [1]), Cratyna (subgenus Cratyna [1]), Cratyna unplaced [2], Archicratyna gen. nov. All species from the Dominican amber belong to recent genera or subgenera, whereas many species from the Baltic and Saxonian amber belong to extinct genera or subgenera. Furthermore, the species from the Dominican amber possess more modern features than those from the European amber. Surprisingly, the fossil sciarid fauna from the Dominican amber shows more similarities to the recent fauna of the Holarctic region than to the recent fauna of Central and South America.KeywordsSciaridae, Dominican Amber.Nomenclatural Actsarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.subarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.trichoarcana Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.zimbabweensis Mohrig, 2005 (Archicratyna), spec. n.antiqua Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.dimidiata Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.exoleta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysia), spec. n.repentina Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Bradysiopsis), spec. n.obsoleta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Chaetosciara), spec. n.iocosa Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.prisca Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.pristina Röschmann & Mohrig, 2005 (Corynoptera), spec. n.interposita Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna), spec. n.villosoantennata Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna), spec. n.tempestiva Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Cratyna (Cratyna)), spec. n.adstrictosetus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.longisetus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.macrospinatus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.microspinus Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Epidapus), spec. n.manifesta Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Leptosciarella (Leptosciarella)), spec. n.Archicratyna Mohrig, 2005 (Sciaridae), gen. n.nova Mohrig & Röschmann, 2005 (Trichosia (Moufettina)), spec. n

Extended distribution patterns of the Arabian burnet moth Reissita simonyi (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae; Rebel, 1899) and the Arabian wall brown Lasiommata felix (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Satyrinae; Warnecke, 1929) in Southern Arabia.

Both species are endemic to the Arabian Peninsula and information about distribution patterns has been rather fragmentary so far. The paper summarizes the results of several field trips to Southern Arabia in 2001/2002 and reviews additional published evidence on the distribution patterns. Numerous new localities for both studied species from Yemen are offered. Currently, Reissita simonyi is known from Al Hada, vic. Ta´if, Asir in Saudi Arabia to Province Dhofar, Jabal Samhan, N of Juffa in Oman. Lasiommata felix is distributed from Ta´if, Saudi Arabia to the Jaffah area, E of Taiz/Yemen in Southern Arabia. L. felix seems to be limited to the western escarpment along the Red Sea, whereas R. simonyi shows a division into two subspecies: R. simonyi yemenicola, which also occurs along the mountainous areas along the Red Sea and R. simonyi simonyi, which is distributed along the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, a brief description of morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationships of these species is given in this context. Keywords
