Nomenklatorische Handlungen Kinitocelis macroptera Mey & Wichard, spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:E0B1624A-C69E-4B53-851F-4368AC21C614Retortocelis spicipalpia Mey & Wichard, spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:9778E7E2-EEFE-4DC5-B891-54DF114D525CDuring examination of new material of Burmese amber three individuals of Tarachoptera were discovered. The inclusions are sufficiently well preserved and allow identification and description of these rare, fossil insects. The species belong to the family Tarachocelidae and are described as Kinitocelis macroptera spec. nov. (†) and Retortocelis spicipalpia spec. nov. (†). The species and their preservations are described in detail, and photos and line drawings are provided for wing venation, head, mouthparts, and abdomen. The hitherto described species of Tarachoptera are summarized in a checklist.   Taxonomic acts Kinitocelis macroptera Mey & Wichard, spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:E0B1624A-C69E-4B53-851F-4368AC21C614Retortocelis spicipalpia Mey & Wichard, spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:9778E7E2-EEFE-4DC5-B891-54DF114D525

Nomenklatorische Handlungen Auletobius gaditanus spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:17F6BFE9-974E-46B2-BA6E-05624044EAD7A new Auletobius species of the subgenus Canarauletes, Auletobius gaditanus spec. nov., is described from southern Spain. The report that the sister taxon Auletobius maroccanus Hoffmann, 1953 (Locus typicus: Morocco, Reggou, Moyen Moulouya) also occurs in Spain (Almeria: Punta del Sabinar) is corrected, because this specimen also belongs to the new species without doubt. In a morphological and molecular differential diagnosis, the new species is distinguished from the closest related species, and for the first time, a molecular relationship analysis (CO1) is presented for almost all species of the subgenus Canarauletes, whose main distribution area is in the Canary Islands and Madeira.   Taxonomic acts Auletobius gaditanus spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:17F6BFE9-974E-46B2-BA6E-05624044EAD

Lasius nigroemarginatus Forel, 1874 is a F1 Hybrid between L. emarginatus (Olivier, 1792) and L. platythorax Seifert, 1991 (Hymenoptera, Formicidae)

Lasius nigroemarginatus Forel, 1874, that has been synonymized in recent catalogues with Lasius emarginatus (Olivier, 1792), is shown to represent a F1 hybrid between L. emarginatus and L. platythorax Seifert, 1991. This conclusion was firstly drawn from numeric description of 16 phenotypic characters and the placement of four type workers of L. nigroemarginatus within vectorial space of the three possible parental species. These were represented by 144 workers of Lasius niger (Linnaeus, 1758), 90 workers of L. emarginatus and 94 workers of L. platythorax – with a coverage for all species by their whole Palaearctic range. The type sample was placed intermediate between (and clearly separated from) the clusters of L. emarginatus and L. platythorax in both Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling and when run as a wild-card in a three-class linear discriminant analysis. Comparing structural and pigmentation characters one by one, the types of L. nigroemarginatus were intermediate between L. emarginatus and L. platythorax in five characters, closer to L. emarginatus in four characters and closer to L. platythorax in seven characters. The conclusions derived from the position in the morphological space were supported by data on swarming time and nest habitat selection and the odor perceived by the collector Forel. Lasius niger could be clearly excluded to represent a parental species. It is argued that the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) shows logical inconsistencies and explanatory weakness regarding the treatment of truly hybridogenous species and that the Articles 1.3.3, 17.2 and 23.8 of ICZN should be amended or re-written

Monograph of the Staphylinidae of Crete (Greece). Part I. Diversity and endemism (Insecta: Coleoptera)

Sechs Namen werden synonymisiert, einer revalidiert: Phloeocharis longipennis Fauvel, 1875 = P. hummleri Bernhauer, 1915, syn. nov.; Phytosus balticus Kraatz, 1859 = P. holtzi Bernhauer, 1935, syn. nov.; Atheta nigra (Kraatz, 1856) = A. biroi Scheerpeltz, 1964, syn. nov.; Domene stilicina (Erichson, 1840) = D. lohseiana Bordoni, 1977, syn. nov.; Oedichirus rubronotatus Pic, 1903, revalidiert = O. reitteri Bernhauer, 1908, syn. nov.; Pseudolathra quadricollis (Fauvel, 1875) = P. cretensis Bordoni, 1986, syn. nov. With a geological history of long isolation, fragmentation, partial submersion, and subsequent rising, characterized by a remarkable diversity in topology, geology, and habitats, and the fifth-largest island of the Mediterranean, Crete has provided an ideal setting for speciation and developing a unique and diverse Staphylinidae fauna. Although beginning already in the middle of the 19th century, the exploration of this fauna gained momentum only recently. Based on a critical revision of literature data, on material collected during several recent field trips, and on additional previously unpublished records, a checklist of the Staphylinidae of Crete is compiled, including as many as 397 named species, with 115 of them reported from the island for the first time and with 48 new species described in the second part of the monograph. Additional unidentified and unnamed species, as well as species doubtfully or erroneously recorded from Crete are listed separately. The systematic, zoogeographic, and ecological composition of the Staphylinidae fauna is characterized with a special focus on the endemics. The latter are represented by 111 named and at least ten unnamed species, account for nearly one-third of the fauna, and mainly belong to the subfamilies Aleocharinae, Scydmaeninae, Pselaphinae, Paederinae, Leptotyphlinae, Staphylininae, and Omaliinae. More than half of them are even locally endemic. The genera with the greatest number of endemic species are Cephennium Müller & Kunze, 1822 of the Scydmaeninae (twelve named species) and Geostiba Thomson, 1858 of the Aleocharinae (nine named species). More than two-thirds of the endemic species are epigeic inhabitants of forests, bush and shrub habitats, grassland, and wetlands, approximately one-fourth is confined to deeper soil strata or endogean, and 8 % are myrmephilous. Slightly more than half (59 species; 53 %) of the endemics are most likely the result of in-situ radiation (18 lineages), the remainder of vicariance with mainland species. A comparison with other Mediterranean islands revealed that (a) total diversity of the Cretan fauna is significantly greater than that of other East Mediterranean islands except Corfu, but much lower than that of Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily, (b) regarding the number of endemic species Crete ranks third behind Corsica and Sardinia, and (c) the rate of endemism is greater in Crete than in any other Mediterranean island. Explanations for the observed differences in the diversity and composition of the faunas of the islands are discussed. Stichoglossa graeca Bernhauer, 1905, a species of which previously only the lectotype was known, is redescribed and illustrated. Six synonymies are proposed and one name is revalidated: Phloeocharis longipennis Fauvel, 1875 = P. hummleri Bernhauer, 1915, syn. nov.; Phytosus balticus Kraatz, 1859 = P. holtzi Bernhauer, 1935, syn. nov.; Atheta nigra (Kraatz, 1856) = A. biroi Scheerpeltz, 1964, syn. nov.; Domene stilicina (Erichson, 1840) = D. lohseiana Bordoni, 1977, syn. nov.; Oedichirus rubronotatus Pic, 1903, revalidated = O. reitteri Bernhauer, 1908, syn. nov.; Pseudolathra quadricollis (Fauvel, 1875) = P. cretensis Bordoni, 1986, syn. nov. A lectotype is designated for Stichoglossa graeca Bernhauer, 1905. Two species are reported from Greece for the first time

Nomenklatorische Handlungen Echinodera magnesia Stuben spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:90FF8B7B-7DC2-4214-83E9-075D004C34CFEchinodera arcadia Stuben spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:6E89A7D2-4C51-4FD2-A847-5E92719EC9E7Echinodera brachati peloponnensis Stuben ssp. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:76479EE7-91A7-4F57-BC0B-AFD9C1D0F2A1Two new species, Echinodera magnesia and E. arcadia, and the subspecies E. brachati peloponnensis are described by the first author from Greece (Peloponnese and Pilion Mountains) and are distinguished from the related species. They are incorporated into the current key of the Mediterranean species of the genus. In addition to morphological characters, first molecular analyses (barcoding) are presented, and the new taxa are integrated into a dendrogram of the Southeast European Echinodera species (Maximum-Likelihood tree; CO1, 658 bp).   Nomenclatural acts Echinodera magnesia Stuben spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:90FF8B7B-7DC2-4214-83E9-075D004C34CFEchinodera arcadia Stuben spec. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:6E89A7D2-4C51-4FD2-A847-5E92719EC9E7Echinodera brachati peloponnensis Stuben ssp. nov. – urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:76479EE7-91A7-4F57-BC0B-AFD9C1D0F2A
