New species of Peromyia from Tasmania, with a revision of Schiner's and Skuse's types of Australian Micromyinae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae).
StichwörterDiptera, Cecidomyiidae, Micromyinae, Australasian Region, Australia, Tasmania, Peromyia, new species, new synonyms, new combinations.Nomenklatorische Handlungenamplipennis Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumcrocea Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumpellax Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), syn. nov. of Peromyia impexa (Skuse, 1888)perpallida Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumpersimilis Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumsidneyensis Schiner, 1868 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumsubtilis Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), syn. nov. of Peromyia impexa (Skuse, 1888)vicina Skuse, 1888 (Campylomyza), nomen dubiumaeratipennis (Skuse, 1888) (Peromyia), comb. nov. hitherto Campylomyza aeratipennis Skuse, 1888bashfordi Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.cinalata Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.debilis Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.despecta Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.grovei Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.impexa (Skuse, 1888) (Peromyia), comb. nov. hitherto Campylomyza impexa Skuse, 1888indecorata Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.muscorum (Kieffer, 1895) (Peromyia), syn. nov. of Peromyia aeratipennis (Skuse, 1888)nitoda Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.palustris (Kieffer, 1895) (Peromyia), syn. nov. of Peromyia impexa (Skuse, 1888)pellax (Skuse, 1888) (Peromyia), comb. nov. hitherto Campylomyza pellax Skuse, 1888subtilis (Skuse, 1888) (Peromyia), comb. nov. hitherto Campylomyza subtilis Skuse, 1888tasmanica Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.warraensis Jaschhof, 2010 (Peromyia), spec. nov.grandiuscula (Skuse, 1890) (Pteridomyia), comb. nov. hitherto Campylomyza grandiuscula Skuse, 1890Peromyia Kieffer, 1894, a speciose, cosmopolitan genus of micromyine cecidomyiids, is shown to occur in Tasmania. This is the first record of the genus in Australia and the first contribution to the taxonomy of Australian Micromyinae for 120 years. Nine of the 12 species found proved to be new to science: Peromyia grovei sp. n., P. nitoda sp. n., P. indecorata sp. n., P. warraensis sp. n., P. bashfordi sp. n., P. despecta sp. n., P. debilis sp. n., P. cinalata sp. n., and P. tasmanica sp. n. Four of the new species are assigned to the Peromyia dissona group, which is established for a chiefly western Pacific species radiation. Other Tasmanian peromyias are assigned to species groups that to present knowledge are widely distributed accross the Holarctic Region and occasionally beyond. The types of the Micromyinae species from Australia by Ignaz R. Schiner and Frederick A. A. Skuse are revised. None of the 11 species belongs to the genus Campylomyza Meigen, 1818, where they were originally assigned. Campylomyza grandiuscula Skuse, 1890 is actually a species of the genus Pteridomyia Jaschhof, 2003. The remaining species either belong to the genus Peromyia or their generic affiliation could not be determined. Peromyia aeratipennis (Skuse, 1888) comb. n. takes priority over Peromyia muscorum (Kieffer, 1895) syn. n., and Peromyia impexa (Skuse, 1888) comb. n. takes priority over Peromyia palustris (Kieffer, 1895) syn. n. Peromyia pellax (Skuse, 1888) comb. n., syn. n. and Peromyia subtilis (Skuse, 1888) comb. n., syn. n. are identical with Peromyia impexa.
StichwörterDiptera, Hippoboscidae, Germany, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Uckermark, faunistics, new records.Louse flies (Hippoboscidae) were collected from 20 different wooded areas in the Uckermark region (north-east Germany). The specimens were taken from Diptera samples caught during a reseach project »Nordmitteleuropa 2020« (NME 2020) in 2001 to 2003. As a result of this, the louse flies Hippobosca equina Linnaeus, 1758 and Lipoptena cervi (Linnaeus, 1758) were identified from the Uckermark. Only females were found and they were exclusively winged and probably seeking vectors. Both species generally parasitise large mammals (H. equina mainly domestic horses, L. cervi mainly deer) and both species are usually common and widespread. This evidence makes a valuable contribution to the louse fly fauna of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.KeywordsDiptera, Hippoboscidae, Germany, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Uckermark, faunistics, new records

Exomala (Neoblitopertha) campestris (Latreille, 1804) and Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840): two distinct European species (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Rutelinae, Anomalini).
StichwörterTaxonomy, nomenclature, new synonymy, key to species, Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Anomalini, Exomala (Neoblitopertha), Palaearctic region.Nomenklatorische Handlungencampestris (Latreille, 1804) (Exomala (Neoblitopertha)), nom. protectum over Melontha campestris Herbst, 1783: nom. oblitumsuccincta (Castelnau, 1840) (Exomala (Neoblitopertha)), stat. rev. hitherto a synonym of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) campestris (Latreille, 1804)abbreviata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)cruciata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)maculata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)pauperata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)Evidence is presented showing that, according to the Code, Melolontha campestris Latreille, 1804, albeit a junior primary homonym of Melolontha campestris Herbst, 1783 must to be used as the valid name for the species currently known as Exomala (Neoblitopertha) campestris. Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840), currently considered synonym of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) campestris (Latreille, 1804), is rehabilitated as a good species. Diagnostic features enabling the separation of succincta from campestris are provided, as well as a key to the species of Neoblitopertha Baraud, 1991.KeywordsTaxonomy, nomenclature, new synonymy, key to species, Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Anomalini, Exomala (Neoblitopertha), Palaearctic region.Nomenclatural Actscampestris (Latreille, 1804) (Exomala (Neoblitopertha)), nom. protectum over Melontha campestris Herbst, 1783: nom. oblitumsuccincta (Castelnau, 1840) (Exomala (Neoblitopertha)), stat. rev. hitherto a synonym of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) campestris (Latreille, 1804)abbreviata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)cruciata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)maculata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840)pauperata Mulsant, 1842 (Phyllopertha campestris var.), syn. n. of Exomala (Neoblitopertha) succincta (Castelnau, 1840

Barcoding cryptic bumblebee taxa: B. lucorum, B. crytarum and B. magnus, a case study (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Bombus).
Spring queens of five taxa of the subgenus Bombus sensu stricto (Bombus sporadicus, B. terrestris, B. lucorum, B. cryptarum and B. magnus) were collected from different localities throughout Europe to rear artificial colonies. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I of 40 specimens was sequenced (partial sequence of 1005 bp length). Interspecific sequence divergence was about 30 to 60 base substitutions and the Tamura-Nei genetic distance was approximately 0.05 to 0.25, whereas the intraspecific sequence divergence was only 1 to 6 base substitutions and the Tamura-Nei genetic distance was about 0.002 to 0.007. In addition to the B. sporadicus and B. terrestris cluster, three clusters were obtained in the phylogenetic tree: cluster α for B. lucorum, cluster β for B. cryptarum and cluster γ for B. magnus. The three clusters α, β and γ, which represent taxa of the so-called lucorum-complex, were well separated, with low variability, no intergrading and no terminal units of unclear position. As there are no gaps in the alignments of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I sequences single nucleotide sites can be used as positional homologies. Each taxon is characterised by about 8 to 12 substitutions, which are unique (“private”) and can be used as diagnostic characters to define and identify that taxon. Using the classical tools of cladistics, a tree was built on the basis of these diagnostic characters. The Barcode engine successfully identified all critical specimens. The topological position of GenBank sequences of misidentified specimens and sequences with potentially degraded DNA is discussed. Museum specimens of three Asiatic taxa of the lucorum-complex with unknown relationships were sequenced to investigate the possibility of identifying specimens with degraded DNA by diagnostic positions. Identification based on morphological and molecular characters is discussed and the identification of critical specimens by tree building (= genetic distance) and by diagnostic characters is compared
