New and poorly known Tineidae from the Western Palaearctic (Lepidoptera).
StichwörterWestern Palaearctic; Tineidae; new species; new records; new synonymy.Nomenklatorische Handlungenlarseni Gaedike, 2011 (Ateliotum), spec.nov.corleyi Gaedike, 2011 (Infurcitinea), spec.nov.tenuipennella Gaedike, 2011 (Neurothaumasia), spec.nov.tunesiella Gaedike, 2011 (Neurothaumasia), spec.nov.As the result of the study of tineid material, which was collected in numerous countries of Western Palaearctic, were etablished first records for 8 countries, two of them are first records for Europe. Characterization of leaf-rollers attacking forest and fruit trees in Azerbaijan (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae).
Characterization of the leaf-roller moths (Tortricidae) attacking forest and fruit trees in the North (Sheki-Zagatala), East (Baku-Absheron), and South (Lenkoran-Astara) regions of Azerbaijan was conducted over the decade 1994-2004. Aspects of the biology of Megalodontes thor Taeger, 2002 (Hymenoptera: Symphyta: Megalodontesidae).
StichwörterHymenoptera, Megalodontesidae, Megalodontes thor, biology, Peucedanum, Germany. Some features of the biology of Megalodontes thor Taeger, 2002, a rare xerothermophilous sawfly species, are described and discussed, particularly feeding, sexual and egg-laying behaviour of imagines and habits of the larvae. At the type locality (main study area) in Southern Germany the larvae feed exclusively on Peucedanum oreoselinum (Apiaceae). At other localities further Peucedanum species are probably fed upon. Flight period at the type locality is approximately two months, which is exceptionally long for a univoltine sawfly. Copulation takes place mostly on inflorescences and mainly during dusk or dawn, whereas feeding activity takes place at higher temperatures and in full daylight. Temporal separation of these two types of behaviour has not been recorded in other Symphyta. Yellow inflorescences are strongly favoured by M. thor for feeding. Where a choice is available, inflorescences with half hidden nectaries (Ranunculus) are visited far more frequently than those with completely hidden nectaries (Asteraceae). The application of a secretion around the egg after oviposition, recorded here for the first time in the Megalodontesidae, has previously been observed in the Symphyta only in the closely related Pamphiliidae. The significance of the secretion is discussed. Differences are highlighted in the biologies of M. thor and M. cephalotes (Fabricius, 1781), the only Megalodontesidae for which comparable data are available. The highly endangered status of many Central European xerothermophilous sawflies is discussed in the light of observations on M. thor.KeywordsHymenoptera, Megalodontesidae, Megalodontes thor, biology, Peucedanum, Germany

StichwörterInsecta, Lepidoptera, Acentropinae, Eoophyla, taxonomy, new species, zoogeography, phylogeny, South-East Asia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia.Nomenklatorische Handlungencontinentalis Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.corniculata Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.profalcatalis Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.promiscuata Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.silvicola Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.sumatroceratucha Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.Within the Acentropinae (Lepidoptera: Pyraloidea) the genus Eoophyla Swinhoe, 1900 is one of the richest in numbers of species. The distibution area covers the tropical Asia and Africa. The genus is subdivided into groups of species, which are separated according to external charakters from each other. Furthermore there are isolated species, which do not fit in any of the established groups. E. ceratucha (Meyrick, 1894) belongs to the latter group. After examination of an extensive material from Southeast Asia the species proved to be a complex of at least eleven species. - Here the species are summarized in the new established ceratucha group. Three synapomorphies could be found for this group. E. liwaguensis Mey, 2009, belonging to the angustalis group, was identified to be the adelphotaxon.
All species of the ceratucha group are described in detail and illustrated with its external and genitalmorphologic characters. Six species were recognized as new to science and are described here as: E. continentalis sp. nov., E. corniculata sp. nov., E. profalcatalis sp. nov., E. promiscuata sp. nov., E. silvicola sp. nov. and E. sumatroceratucha sp. nov. Description and designation of one additional species from Thailand is postponed because of lacking material. - Within males unknown structures at the midlegs and at the prothorax were discovered, which could be an indication of an sound producing organ. - A hypothesis of relationship within the speciesgroup was developed on an morphological basis. Three subgroups were recognized.
The distribution of the group is restricted to Sundaland and the neighbouring areas of Thailand to South Vietnam on the Asian continent. However the individual species have much smaller ranges and are usually restricted to one or two islands. Distribution maps for all species are provided. - The biology of the species is unknown. They are inhabitants of streams and little rivers in lowland rainforests and must be considerd as endangered.KeywordsInsecta, Lepidoptera, Acentropinae, Eoophyla, taxonomy, new species, zoogeography, phylogeny, South-East Asia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia.Nomenclatural Actscontinentalis Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.corniculata Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.profalcatalis Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.promiscuata Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.silvicola Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov.sumatroceratucha Jaenicke & Mey, 2011 (Eoophyla), spec. nov
