« C’est pas par plaisir qu’ils voyagent ! » Chanson et migration – contextualisation, thématique et point de vue narratif
How can the rich panorama of French songs which scholars tend to identify as ‘songs of migration’ be characterized? The chanson politique, the chanson engagée, and the chanson de la migration – all three of them make statements about society but the latter is specific in its themes: It focuses on the individual and/or the collective experience of forced displacement and migration, which have been the lot of thousands and thousands of people in the past three decades. In the first part of this article, the history of French immigration is outlined in order to contextualise the 60 songs chosen for analysis. After briefly highlighting the complexity and plurimediality of the artistic form of the chanson, the second part concentrates on the themes addressed and on the narrative perspective; it ends with Louis Calvet who stated as early as 1976 that a chanson can be political for three reasons: the author’s intentionality, the topics dealt with, and the way in which the contemporary society ‘lives’ the respective songs

Rovazzi e la canzone sui social network
The first gold record in Italy obtained exclusively through streaming playings is Andiamo a comandare by Fabio Rovazzi, a young youtuber extremely popular among teenagers. The fact that a youtuber and not a singer received such an award is a signal of the new ways in which Italian teenagers perceive and consume music today: video streaming affects music consumption as much as audio streaming. This essay aims to analyze the three songs Rovazzi has released so far, considering the three elements that contribute to his success: music, lyrics, and video. While the songs themselves rely heavily on Electronic Dance Music (EDM), rap, references to the internet, social networks and slang used by youngsters, the videos seem to create a subtler connection with the viewers who know social networks well and enjoy an active ‘second’ life with their help. Moreover, the videos complete the songs’ meaning, almost as if the songs had been written to fit the videos and not vice versa
Evaluation of pulse rate measurement with a wrist worn device during different tasks and physical activity
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the wrist-worn device Mio FUSE, which estimates heart rate (HR) based on photo-plethysmography, 1) in a large study group during a standardised activity, 2) in a small group during a variety of activities and 3) to investigate factors affecting HR accuracy in a real-world setting. First, 53 male participants (20 ±1 years; 1.79 ±0.07 m; 76.1 ±10.5 kg) completed a 35-km march wearing the Equivital EQ-02 as a criterion measure. Second, 5 participants (whereof 3 female; 29 ±5 years; 1.74 ±0.07 m; 67.8 ±11.1 kg) independently performed 25 activities, categorised as sitting passive, sitting active, standing, cyclic and anti-cyclic activities with the Polar H7 as a criterion device. Equivalence testing and Bland-and-Altman analyses were undertaken to assess the accuracy to the criterion devices. Third, confounders affecting HR accuracy were investigated using multiple backwards regression analyses. The Mio FUSE was equivalent to the respective criterion measures with only small systematic biases of -3.5 bpm (-2.6%) and -1.7 bpm (-1.3%) with limits of agreements of ±10.1 bpm and ±10.8 bpm during the 35-km march and during different activities, respectively. Confounding factors negatively affecting the accuracy of the Mio FUSE were found to include larger wrist size and intensified arm and/or wrist movement. The wrist-worn Mio FUSE can be recommended to estimate overall HR accurately for different types of activities in healthy adults. However, during sporting activities involving intensified arm and/or wrist movement or for detailed continuous analysis, a chest strap is preferred to the Mio FUSE to optimise HR estimation accuracy
Characterizing different team sports using network analysis
Team sports are complex dynamic systems based on the frequent interaction of various players. Recently, social network analysis has been introduced to the study of sports dynamics in order to quantify the involvement of individual players in the interplay and to characterize the organizational processes used by teams. Nonetheless, only a limited set of team sports has been assessed to date, and the focus of most studies has been on the application of small sets of network metrics to a single sport. Our study aims at comparing the network patterns of different team sports in order to contribute to the understanding of their underlying nature. It considers three invasion games, namely professional matches from basketball, football and handball. By applying relevant centrality measures and minimum spanning trees a first comparison between the nature of interplay in various team sports is offered as well as a deeper understanding of the role of different tactical positions in each sport. The point guard in basketball, defensive midfielder in football and center in handball are identified as the most central tactical positions. Direct interplay is most balanced in football followed by basketball and handball. A visualization of the basic structure of interplay for each sport is achieved through minimum spanning trees
Toi, moi… et les autres ? Musique populaire et migration dans le film musical Toi, moi, les autres d’Audrey Estrougo (2011)
In my article, I analyse the relationship between famous French songs and migration in the French film musical Toi, moi, les autres (Audrey Estrougo 2011), which mixes the codes of the fairy tale romcom with a story about undocumented migrants in contemporary Paris. I underscore that the use of these songs – very few of the musical arrangements are sung by figures of sans-papiers – is pernicious. They serve to highlight and to cement the love story of the two protagonists much more than to develop a real political discourse. I argue that the filmmaker has exploited the memorial – and sentimental – dimension of the French songs for the benefit of the romantic story but has failed to offer a critical discourse on the situation of the undocumented migrants, which had been one of the intentions of the film
Practicing sports in lucid dreams – characteristics, effects, and practical implications
In a lucid dream the dreamer is aware of the dream state and can carry out actions deliberately. Lucid dream practice (LDP) is the rehearsal of movements during lucid dreams and constitutes a specific form of mental practice. Previous studies demonstrated that LDP can enhance physical performance. To gain deeper insight into LDP on a qualitative level, sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with lucid dreamers from different countries. Inductive content analysis revealed that many different sports and movements can be practiced in lucid dreams. LDP experiences were very realistic, including kinesthetic perception. Required equipment or sparring partners usually were available or could be created and adjusted by the athletes. Thirteen interviewees (81.3%) reported positive effects of LDP. In particular, 10 participants reported to have improved their physical performance through LDP, confirming findings of previous studies. Other positive effects were, for example, strengthened confidence, insights for physical practice (PP), improved flexibility, and positive emotions. The results also demonstrate the special possibilities of LDP like deliberate manipulation of practice conditions, speed, and perspective. Furthermore, problems occurring during LDP are described and how they can be dealt with. Based on the results, practical advice for interested athletes is provided. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates the great potential of LDP for sports practice. LDP could also be applied in other areas that involve motor learning, like rehabilitation, music, or surgery. The present study complements previous LDP findings and provides input and new ideas for future LDP studies. Furthermore, it is an important contribution to general MP research. Findings from LDP research–a small but growing field–should be incorporated into conceptual discussions on MP. Also, by extending LDP research, athletes and coaches could become more aware of this unique and effective method and could start to integrate it into sports practice
