Combining radiation or chemotherapy with hyperthermia has been shown to be
an effective way to improve cancer treatments. This project has investigated which
temparature is obtainable when using focused heating on cancer tumors. The tumor
used in the project is a deep-seated medulloblastoma in a child model. Tumor coverage
and hot spots have been considered. Electromagnetic fields were simulated on the model
and the results were optimized using a goal function. The results show a certain heating
of the deep-seated tumor, but with hot spots and very low coverage of the tumor.
Different goal functions used for optimization were also examined, along with methods
of optimization. These results indicated that Nelder-Mead is a better method of
optimization than particle swarm for this case and that the new goal function HTC25
gave equivalent results as the commonly used HTQ

Risk Management in the Infrastructure Industry How Can Monte Carlo Simulations Reduce Uncertainty in Infrastructure Projects?
The infrastructure industry is known for underestimating project risks. Monte Carlo simulation is a probabilistic risk analysis method that can quantify consequences of risks but is not frequently used in the infrastructure industry even though the method has been available for decades. The aim of this thesis was to investigate to what extent Monte Carlo simulations are used and how these simulations can be implemented into the risk management process in the Swedish infrastructure industry. The thesis is based on a literature study and an interview study with five consultants and three experts from the Swedish Transport Administration.
The main findings are that Monte Carlo simulations seldom are used in the Swedish infrastructure industry today and that there is a difference between consultants and clients in perception of the benefits of Monte Carlo simulations. Consultants mostly appreciate the Monte Carlo method while the government client experts do not believe the benefits outweigh the added costs. Furthermore, the study indicates that Monte Carlo simulations can improve the risk management process by clearly visualizing and communicating risks to project participants, and that it should be possible to implement Monte Carlo simulations in many projects even without extensive knowledge of the method

Implementation of Lean methods on a daily basis by small and medium sized manufacturers
Amount of manufacturing SMEs is increasing and their contribution to the economy is significant. In order to increase their productivity, manufacturing SMEs implement lean methods on a daily basis. Based on the lean methods theories which is originally from the manufacturing company in Japan, this thesis aims to investigate the implementation of lean methods in small and medium size manufacturing enterprises through three interview companies and a case company in Sweden. The study refers to lean method, lean activities, small and medium sized manufacturers, implementing preferences, challenges and advantages. The data is collected with three interviews and one single case study of Swedish companies in Gothenburg. The results explained two discussion points. Initially the most frequently applied lean activities in SMEs under current situation and secondly the reasons that SMEs are implementing lean methods. The most utilized lean methods are waste eliminating and error detection, while the least easily utilized ones are visual factory which call more for money and technology investment for SMEs. SMEs would benefit from the successful implementation of lean methods in different stages of lean methods to achieve their expected outcomes. Furthermore, on ground of the delimitations and relevant findings from this thesis, some recommendations to explore the implementation of lean methods in more comprehensive industries and business sizes are put forward
