Integrating Augmented Reality and Zero Waste Content in EFL Instruction: A Need Analysis Study
Environmental literacy is crucial to overcome sustainability issues such as zero waste, especially in educational environments. This study evaluates the needs of students for augmented reality (AR) based zero waste content to improve environmental literacy in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context at MAN 2 Palembang. A descriptive quantitative design was employed using a needs analysis approach with 92 eleventh grade students. Data were collected through a questionnaire assessing environmental knowledge, attitudes, material needs, familiarity with AR technology, and the demand for AR-based learning media. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed distinct patterns across five indicators: Environmental Material Needs had the lowest mean score (M = 3.02, SD = 0.73), followed by Environmental Attitude and Responsibility (M = 3.41, SD = 0.34), and Environmental Knowledge and Awareness (M = 3.63, SD = 0.42). In contrast, AR-related indicators received higher mean scores, with AR Technology Knowledge attaining the highest (M = 3.88, SD = 0.39) and the Need for AR Based Learning Media showing strong support (M = 3.78, SD = 0.50). Furthermore, 58.7% of respondents indicated a high need for AR based learning media, while only 6.5% expressed low needs. These findings suggest that integrating zero waste content with AR based learning media can effectively support environmental literacy in EFL education. Practically, the results offer educators and curriculum developers evidence based guidance for creating contextually relevant and enhanced environmental learning materials that align students\u27 technological readiness with their need for meaningful environmental content
AI’s Impact on Students’ Oral Presentation Skills: Indonesian Lecturers’ Pedagogical Responses
This study investigates lecturers’ pedagogical responses to student challenges in processing information for oral presentation skills in the era of artificial intelligence. Employing a qualitative case study design with thematic analysis, the study involved eight lecturers and 62 students from three private universities in Cimahi, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and analysed using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase thematic framework. The findings reveal that 1) all lecturer participants (100%) reported an erosion of students’ oral communication skills, manifested in a gap between high-quality visual artifacts and weak verbal performance, deficits in spontaneous responses, and degradation of non-verbal communication, indicating the role of artificial intelligence as a cognitive crutch, 2) lecturers responded to these challenges by diversifying pedagogical strategies, particularly through explicit AI usage policies (100%), intensified oral validation via spontaneous question-and-answer sessions (87.5%), and process-oriented assessment (75%), and 3) student responses were ambivalent, with the majority (77.4%) perceiving the new assessment approaches as fairer and more transparent, while a minority (22.6%) expressed resistance related to performance anxiety. These findings suggest that the most effective response to AI-related challenges is not the prohibition of technology, but a pedagogical redesign that prioritizes process validation, human interaction, and assessment security to maintain rigorous academic standards in Indonesian higher education
Qur’anic Perspectives on Humanity and Social Justice
This study explores the concept of humanity and social justice in the light of the Qur’an, highlighting the intrinsic dignity and honor granted to all human beings, irrespective of race, religion, or social status. It examines the Qur’anic principles of justice, fairness, and fulfillment of trusts as essential foundations for a stable and harmonious society. The research emphasizes the moral and ethical responsibilities of humans as Allah’s vicegerents on earth, endowed with intellect, free will, and the capacity to choose between good and evil. Special attention is given to the protection of vulnerable groups, including women and orphans, and to the sanctity of human life through the law of qiṣaṣ. Additionally, the study underscores gentleness, compassion, and ethical conduct as exemplified by the Prophet ﷺ, demonstrating that mercy and fairness are central to Islamic social values. Overall, the Qur’an provides a comprehensive framework for establishing justice, equity, and moral responsibility, guiding humanity toward a peaceful and ethically sound society
Internalization of Multicultural Values in Fiqh Learning at Muhammadiyah Boarding School Al-Mujahidin Gunungkidul
This study aims to analyze the process and outcomes of internalizing multicultural values in fiqh learning to develop students’ humanistic character at Muhammadiyah Boarding School Al-Mujahidin Gunungkidul. This research employed a qualitative field research design. The informants consisted of three fiqh teachers and 91 students from grades VII–IX. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires. Data triangulation was conducted using source triangulation (teachers and students) and technique triangulation (observation, interviews, and questionnaires), with the unit of analysis focusing on learning processes, instructional strategies, and students’ behavioral responses. The findings indicate that the internalization of multicultural values was implemented through comparative madhhab approaches, contextual learning, group discussions, and project-based activities. Quantitative questionnaires show that all indicators achieved high mean scores ranging from 4.0 to 4.5 on a 5-point Likert scale. The highest scores were found in respect for differences (4.4) and the application of tolerance and justice in dormitory life (4.3). These results demonstrate that fiqh learning has effectively fostered dominant patterns of tolerance, empathy, cooperation, and fairness among students. The study concludes that integrating multicultural values into fiqh learning contributes significantly to the formation of students’ humanistic character and supports the development of moderate and inclusive Islamic education within boarding school contexts
Protective Effects of Acetone Extract of Portulaca oleracea L. on Liver Histopathology in Hypoxia-Induced Sprague-Dawley Rats
Hypoxia, a condition characterized by insufficient oxygen supply, can cause tissue damage in vital organs, including the liver. The liver is particularly vulnerable to hypoxic injury, which may result in impaired function and hepatocyte death. Purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) is known for its antioxidant properties, largely attributed to its flavonoid content, which can inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This experimental study aimed to evaluate the effects of acetone extracts of purslane herb on hepatic histopathological changes in hypoxia-induced rats. Five experimental groups were established, each consisting of six rats (n = 6): normal control (N), hypoxia (H), hypoxia treated with dexamethasone (H+DEXA), hypoxia treated with purslane extract at 150 mg/kg body weight (HP1), and hypoxia treated with purslane extract at 300 mg/kg body weight (HP2). Purslane extract was prepared using the acetone maceration method. Hypoxia was induced by exposing rats to a gas mixture of 10% O₂ and 90% N₂ for 10 consecutive days. Liver tissues were processed using paraffin embedding and stained with hematoxylin–eosin for histopathological evaluation, focusing on hepatocyte necrosis, inflammatory cell infiltration, and hemorrhage. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s post hoc test. The results showed that the 300 mg/kg dose of purslane extract significantly reduced hepatocyte necrosis (35.33 ± 2.52 cells), inflammatory cell infiltration area (2488.51 ± 112.82 µm²), and hemorrhage area (1031.10 ± 17.38 µm²) compared with the hypoxia group (p < 0.05). In conclusion, acetone extracts of purslane demonstrated significant hepatoprotective effects in hypoxia-induced rats, suggesting their potential as a natural therapeutic agent for the management of hypoxia-related liver injury
Prophetic Messages of Peace and Human Brotherhood
The message of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ embodies a universal moral vision that transcends time, geography, and culture. Rooted in the Qur’anic conception of mercy (raḥmah), justice (ʿadl), and human dignity (karāmah insāniyyah), his teachings established a spiritual and social order grounded in compassion and equality. In an era of global fragmentation, the Prophetic paradigm invites humanity to rediscover peace as the natural expression of divine harmony and moral balance. This study explores the relevance of the Prophetic model in addressing the crises of modern civilization—wars of ideology, social alienation, and the erosion of ethical values. By examining the Prophet’s vision of brotherhood (ukhuwwah insāniyyah), the research underscores that his message was not confined to a historical context but offers a timeless framework for coexistence and justice. The need to re-engage with this moral foundation is urgent, as contemporary peace discourses often lack spiritual depth and ethical universality. Methodologically, the research adopts a textual-analytical and comparative approach, situating the Prophetic discourse within both classical Islamic and modern philosophical frameworks. It analyzes primary sources such as the Prophet’s sermons, treaties, and community-building principles in light of contemporary ethical theories. To ensure depth and authenticity, the study draws upon the classical work Al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah by Ibn Hishām and the modern analytical exposition of Dr. ʿAlī Muḥammad al-Ṣallābī’s Al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah. Together, these sources serve as the intellectual foundation for reconstructing a Prophetic philosophy of peace — one capable of healing the fractured moral consciousness of the modern world
EFL Students’ Pragmatic Competence in writing: Request Strategies in Formal and Informal Letters
This study examines students’ pragmatic competence in using request strategies in English formal and informal letter writing, with particular attention to how learners adjust their linguistic choices according to context, social distance, and power relations. Adopting a qualitative case study design, the participants were twelve undergraduate EFL students who produced one formal and one informal letter containing request expressions. Data were collected through written tasks and supported by follow-up semi-structured interviews with selected participants to clarify pragmatic choices. The written data were analyzed based on Braun and Clarke’s six phases of thematic analysis, with NVivo software employed to support systematic coding and data organization. The analysis focused on patterns of request strategies to explore students’ contextual appropriateness in written communication. The findings indicate that students demonstrated emerging pragmatic competence by differentiating their use of request strategies across formal and informal contexts. In formal letters, students predominantly employed conventionally indirect strategies, particularly query preparatory forms, to show respect and avoid being too direct with institutional authority, although instances of excessive directness were still observed. In informal letters, however, flexibility, emotional expressiveness, and a wider combination of direct and indirect strategies were highlighted which reflected closer social relationships and reduced formality. The results suggest that students are developing their contextual awareness and politeness sensitivity, yet their pragmatic control remains uneven across communicative settings. The study offers the pedagogical importance of integrating explicit instruction on pragmatic features into EFL writing courses to support students’ ability to formulate contextually appropriate requests
Adolescent Depression in the Digital Era: An Analysis of Prophetic Hadith as the Foundation of Humanistic Islamic Counseling
Adolescent depression has emerged as a significant mental health challenge in the digital era, driven by excessive social media exposure, cyberbullying, identity crises, and weakened interpersonal relationships. These conditions demand a holistic counseling approach that integrates psychological, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. This study examines the prophetic hadith as a foundational framework for developing a humanistic Islamic counseling model in addressing adolescent depression. Employing a qualitative research design based on library research, this study applies a thematic (maudhu\u27i) analysis of selected hadiths related to emotional well-being, hope, patience, compassion, social support, and the prohibition of despair. The findings reveal that the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, emphasized psychological balance, empathy, positive coping strategies, and communal responsibility as essential elements in maintaining mental health. Values such as rahmah (compassion), sabr (patience), tawakkal (trust in God), and emotional self-regulation are shown to be highly relevant to contemporary adolescent counseling practices. From this perspective, Islamic counseling grounded in hadith does not promote spiritual escapism but rather encourages active resilience, self-awareness, and social connectedness. The study argues that a humanistic counseling model rooted in prophetic teachings can serve as a preventive and curative approach to adolescent depression in the digital age. This research contributes to the development of Islamic counseling discourse, enriches hadith studies with mental health perspectives, and offers an alternative ethical framework for addressing youth depression in modern society

Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that not only affects academic ability, but also affects the mental health and psychological well-being of sufferers. Many individuals with dyslexia experience emotional distress, low self-esteem, and social isolation due to lack of understanding and support from their surroundings. This study aims to explore how Islamic spiritual practices and local wisdom can contribute to improving emotional intelligence and psychological well-being of dyslexic sufferers. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study involved one adolescent subject with dyslexia and several supporting informants from the family environment. The results showed that spiritual practices such as prayer, dhikr, self-reflection, and local cultural support that emphasizes the values of togetherness, acceptance, and resilience, can strengthen emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, and increase the meaning of life and self-confidence in sufferers. The integration of spirituality and local culture has proven to be an effective psychological resource in helping the adaptation process and emotional recovery of dyslexic sufferers. These findings open up opportunities for the development of cultural and religious-based intervention approaches in the fields of educational and clinical psycholog
Assessing Risk before Departure: Risk Perception and Decision-Making of Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers
This study aims to analyze the influence of risk perception on the decision-making of prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) in the pre-departure phase. The growing public interest in working abroad is often not accompanied by an adequate understanding of the potential risks. This study offers novelty by empirically integrating the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Risk-as-Feelings Framework within the specific pre-departure migration context, demonstrating that risk perception functions as a significant cognitive–affective predictor of rational decision-making among prospective Indonesian migrant workers. This study uses a quantitative, correlational design. Participants were 150 prospective migrant workers who attended training at five Job Training Institutions (LPK) in Indonesia. The research instrument consisted of the Perceived Risk Factors for Pre-departure Migrant Workers Scale (PD-RFPS) and the Quality of Decision-Making Orientation Scheme (QoDoS), both of which demonstrated high reliability (α = 0.913 and α = 0.950, respectively). Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression in SPSS. The results showed that risk perception significantly affected the decision-making of prospective migrant workers (R² = 0.446; p < 0.05). The higher an individual\u27s perception of risk, the more rational and careful their decision-making process is. These findings strengthen the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Risk-as-Feelings Framework by emphasizing the role of interactions between cognitive and affective processes in the context of work migration. In practice, this study\u27s results highlight the importance of risk perception education and strengthening psychological literacy in pre-departure training for migrant workers to improve mental readiness and work safety abroad
