An analysis of connectedness dynamics between risk-neutral equity and treasury volatilities / Ana González-Urteaga, Belén Nieto [and] Gonzalo Rubio.

    No full text
La versión de este documento de trabajo corresponde al 4 de septiembre de 2018.This paper studies the joint behavior of equity (VIX) and Treasury (MOVE) risk-neutral volatilities to understand the total and directional connectedness between both option-based implied volatilities, as well as their economic and monetary drivers. Moreover, we analyze whether risk aversion and financial, macroeconomic and policy uncertainty affect connectedness dynamics. Most of the time, but especially during bad economic times, we find significant net spillovers from Treasury to equity risk-neutral volatility. Future and contemporaneous good times increase the spillovers from VIX to MOVE, while bad economic times increase the directional connectedness from MOVE to VIX.Este documento de trabajo ha recibido financiación por parte del Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad a través del proyecto ECO2015-67035-P. References focusing on pain and that could include anxiety and physiological parameters as evaluation criteria were taken into consideration. From the 15 studies who met inclusion criteria it was found that, when used as an individual therapy, hypnosis lead to an increase in patient’s pain threshold. However, effectiveness was directly dependent on the degree of discomfort of the dental treatment performed, with low pain procedures having a higher success rate. When used as an adjunct to local anaesthesia, hypnosis reduces the amount of postoperative analgesic consumption, helps in patients´ general comfort, and decreases anxiety levels

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0194853The aim of this study was to analyze the position of the lumbopelvic region and the muscle activation of erector spinae and biceps femoris muscles in a group of pregnant women in the third trimester. The hypothesis was that pregnancy-related biomechanical and morphological changes modify the position of the lumbopelvic region and the activation of extensor muscles. The position of the lumbar spine and pelvis in the sagittal plane, and the EMG activity of the erector spinae and biceps femoris muscles, were recorded during standing in 34 nulliparous and 34 pregnant women in the third trimester, and also two months after birth in the group of pregnant women. No significant differences in the position of the lumbar spine or pelvis between the group of pregnant women and nulliparous or postpartum were observed. A significant increase was observed in the EMG activity of the erector spinae (4.6% vs 2.4% and 2.1% in the nulliparous group and postpartum respectively) and the biceps femoris (3.4% vs 1.2% and 1.4%) in pregnant women compared to the other two groups (p <0.01). We conclude that pregnant women in the third trimester show no alterations in lumbopelvic position compared to nulliparous and postpartum women. However, there is an increase of the EMG activity of the trunk extensors. These results indicate that the extensor muscles of the trunk show, in static positions, adaptive responses to the increase of anterior loads during pregnancy.

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1944/11/7/1080This study is aimed at evaluating the effects of triclosan-encapsulated halloysite nanotubes (HNT/TCN) on the physicochemical and microbiological properties of an experimental dental composite. A resin composite doped with HNT/TCN (8% w/w), a control resin composite without nanotubes (HNT/TCN-0%) and a commercial nanofilled resin (CN) were assessed for degree of conversion (DC), flexural strength (FS), flexural modulus (FM), polymerization stress (PS), dynamic thermomechanical (DMA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The antibacterial properties (M) were also evaluated using a 5-day biofilm assay (CFU/mL). Data was submitted to one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. There was no significant statistical difference in DC, FM and RU between the tested composites (p > 0.05). The FS and CN values attained with the HNT/TCN composite were higher (p < 0.05) than those obtained with the HNT/TCN-0%. The DMA analysis showed significant differences in the TAN (p = 0.006) and Tg (p = 0) between the groups. TGA curves showed significant differences between the groups in terms of degradation (p = 0.046) and weight loss (p = 0.317). The addition of HNT/TCN induced higher PS, although no significant antimicrobial effect was observed (p = 0.977) between the groups for CFUs and (p = 0.557) dry weight. The incorporation of HNT/TCN showed improvements in physicochemical and mechanical properties of resin composites. Such material may represent an alternative choice for therapeutic restorative treatments, although no significance was found in terms of antibacterial properties. However, it is possible that current antibacterial tests, as the one used in this laboratory study, may not be totally appropriate for the evaluation of resin composites, unless accompanied with aging protocols (e.g., thermocycling and load cycling) that allow the release of therapeutic agents incorporated in such materials.Este artículo ha sido financiado por una beca INDI “Programa de Consolidación de Indicadores: Fomento Plan Estatal CEU-UCH” 2017-2018.Financiación Universidad

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-35240-7In order to evaluate risk factors related to the presence of extrinsic dental black stain, a total of 94 orally healthy volunteers (47 individuals with dental black stain and 47 individuals without dental black stain) were recruited from ten different dental clinics in Valencia and Castellón (Spain). Data regarding their oral hygiene, dietary habits, and oral health status were gathered by questionnaire. Samples of dental plaque, saliva and drinking water were collected for chemical analysis. Three factors were found to be statistically significantly associated with dental black stain, (i) consuming water with high iron content, (ii) consuming water with high pH, and (iii) having a high salivary pH. Other factors such as smoking, taking iron supplements or consuming caffeinated drinks were not found to be risk factors for the presence of black stain. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that drinking tap or osmosispurified water and lower levels of salivary iron increase the risk of having dental black stain. Overall, several risk factors for the presence of dental black stain have been identified. The main modifiable risk factor identified in this study was the consumption of tap or osmosis drinking water

Automatic or manual arterial path for the ankle-brachial differences pulse wave velocity / Juan Francisco Sánchez Muñoz-Torrero ... et al.

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0206434An automated method for measuring arterial path length with devices that determine pulse wave velocity (PWV) in peripheral arteries is frequently applied. We aimed to compare arterial path length measurements based on mathematical height-based formulas with those measured manually and to assess whether the ankle-brachial difference (abD-PWV) measured with the VOPITB device is comparable to that obtained by manual measurements. In 245 patients, a metric measuring tape was used to determine the arterial path length from the suprasternal notch to the midpoint of the VOPITB cuffs wrapped around the extremities, and the results were compared with those obtained with height-based formulas. We examined the relationship between the abD-PWV measured with both methods. The arterial path length measured manually was shorter than that calculated automatically by 5 ± 2 and 30 ± 4 cm—of 13% and 21% for the arms and legs, respectively (difference of 13% and 21%). As a result, the abD-PWV calculated with the automatic method was greater (automatic abDPWV vs. manual: 462 ± 90 vs. 346 ± 79 cm/s). The Blant Altman plot showed a percentage error of: 15,2%, 7,5% and 17,3% for heart-brachial, heart-ankle length and abD-PWV respectively. In conclusion there were significant differences between manual and automated arterial length measurements and it translates into difference abD-PWV calculate from both methods. However, the Bland-Alman plot showed that abD-PWV was comparable for both techniques. The advantages of height-based formulas for the calculation of arterial path lengths suggest that they may be the recommended method for measuring the abDPWV.Este artículo ha sido financiado por el proyecto PI12/00131 de Proyectos de Investigación en Salud del Instituto de Salud Carlos III del Gobierno de España, por el proyecto DTS16/00031 de Desarrollo Tecnológico en Salud del Instituto de Salud Carlos III del Gobierno de España y por el proyecto IB16218 de Proyectos de Investigación de la Consejería de Economía e Infraestructura de la Junta de Extremadura.Financiación Nacional / Financiación Autonómica

(2018). Oropharyngeal trichomonads in wild birds. En Jenkins, Owen P. (ed.) (2018). Advances in Animal Science and Zoology. Volume 11 (pp. 1-41). Hauppauge (Nueva York, Estados Unidos) : Nova Science.Oropharyngeal trichomonosis is a disease that affects wild and domestic birds. Some studies carried out in wildlife recovery centers pointed it out as the main cause of entrance of birds of prey due to infectious diseases. It causes small nodules and ulcers in the crop and other locations of the upper digestive system of the animals. These small lesions can coalesce and form large granulomas, which can provoke the death of the animal by starvation. Trichomonas gallinae is considered the etiological agent of the disease, a flagellated protozoon that is frequently found in the oral cavity of columbiformes, which are considered the main reservoir of the parasite. However, in the last decade, a great progress in the molecular characterization of this and other protozoa has been reached, and the number of genetic variants and even new species within the trichomonads that inhabit the avian oropharynx has expanded. In this review, we outline the latest descriptions of these parasites and their host spectrum; more than 10 genetic variants or new species are included. Although trichomonosis has been described in several groups of birds, the higher impact is usually found on Accipitriformes, Falconiformes and Strigiformes due to their predation or scavenging habits. Psittaciformes and Passeriformes also show clinical signs of the disease, and recently, several epidemic episodes of trichomonosis in fringilids were described across Europe and North America. In addition, chicks of endangered species like the Bonelli´s eagle (Aquila fasciata) are frequently affected by the parasite, as several studies carried out in Spain and nearby countries have proved. In this chapter, we summarize the most important features of the disease, including the biology, the diagnosis and treatment options. Additionally, we will describe the recent scientific advances in the pathology, epidemiology and control of the disease.Preprin
