Least Deviance Estimation bootstrap techniques applied to aggregated production elasticity coefficients. Empirical evidence from the Palestinian Industry
The aim of this paper is to provide production elasticity estimates for the aggregate production functions of developing countries. We use aggregate data concerning the production sectors from two Middle Eastern countries. Unfortunately, the available data are quite of bad quality (small samples with high variability and time inconsistency), implying that the traditional OLS-estimates are biased. We propose an estimation procedure based on the bootstrap least deviance technique and find that the estimated elasticity is both significant and robust. For time-saving purposes, we repeat estimates for three available cross-sections of 71 manufacturing aggregates, and obtain increasing returns to scale for the manufacturing sector, which are supposed to reflect the imperfect competition of the market and/or the existence of high set-up or sunk costs, that are mandatory in order to produce at all
Exports and economic growth in Nigeria
Nigeria is an oil dependent economy, over 90 per cent of its exports receipts in recent years flow from petroleum but this sector is currently affected by local challenges, which include insecurity, oil thefts, sabotage and an unfriendly operational environment. These challenges are generating loses for the major producers and encouraging capital flight but amidst this situation, the economy is said to be having an impressive growth. This paradox informed this research. The study was designed to see the nexus between exports and economic growth in Nigeria. Using data from the Central Bank of Nigeria spanning 1980-2011, the study with the aid of OLS regression analysis found a strong relationship between Exports and economic growth in Nigeria. Nigeria will be better served if it diversifies its export base. It must also create structures that lead to better redistribution of export incomes within the local economy
Some hints on individual lending and different factors affecting the credit activity risks
The bank crediting responds to some economical necesities with objective feature ( the stimulation of the production , the stimulation of the competition , the correlation of the needs of the capital with the posibilities of the formation of this ) . We can say that the humanity lives through credit , because the credit expands through the relationships with the external partners , in the most complexe domains of activity . The increase of the credit portofolio was characteristic of the activity developed of all sections of customers , both the credits given to individual or to companies . This evolution was determined of actions sustained by the selling and promotion of the new credit products
HAEMATOLOGICAL CHANGES INDUCED BY EFFORT IN SPORT HORSES
The study was conducted on 24 sport horses in best shape as result of the previous intensive training sessions. The variability of the haematological parameters was monitored in relation to the individual physiological particularities of age and sex before and after the routine training sessions. The adult horses displayed after the training exercise a 32.4% increase of the erythrocytes number, a 29.4% increase of the neutrophils number and a 23% increase of the hematocrit; the lymphocytes number decreased by 14.3%. The erythrocytes number increased after the training exercise by 18.5% in males horses and by 16.6% in female horses, the hematocrit increased by 20% in the male horses and by 16% in the female horses, while the N/L ratio increased by 56% in the males and by 26% in the females. Key words: sport horse, adaptative capacity, haematological indice
FINDINGS IN CEPHALIC CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS CAUSED BY SECONDARY ORGANOPATHIES RESULTING FROM CANINE BABESIOSIS
This paper aimed at describing the cephalic clinical manifestations brought about by the secondary organopathies resulting from babesiosis in 42 dogs that were examined and studied in the Medical Pathology Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Spiru Haret University and the Tiovet Centre for Diagnosis and Treatment in Bucharest. The dogs that were diagnosed with babesiosis had an indifferent facies, photophobia with xerophthalmia and slower palpebral reflexes, the conjunctival and gingival mucous membrane being quite pale in 27 dogs (64.28 %), sub-icteric in 10 dogs (23.8 %) and icteric in 15 dogs (11.9 %). We noticed the thickened tongue with the molar tooth print in 23 dogs (54.76 %), with white-greyish accumulations of matter in 8 cases (19.04 %) and xerostomia in 19 subjects (45.23 %). The kidney and liver functional changes were biochemically confirmed by determining uraemia (between 40 and 50 mg/dl in 15 cases, between 51 and 100 mg/dl in 24 cases, over 100 mg/dl in 3 cases) and the alanine aminotransferase (between 60 and 85 UI/l in 2 cases, between 90 and 100 UI/l in 28 cases, over 110 mg/dl in 12 cases). The main urine changes referred to haemoglobinuria (between 0.2 and 1 mg/dl in 24 cases, over 1 mg/dl in 18 cases). The biochemical establishment of babesiosis was based on the determination of the haemoglobinaemia (under 5 mg/dl in 3 cases, between 5 and 6 mg/dl in 24 cases, between 6 and 7 mg/dl in 5 cases; reference values: 8-12 g/dl). The disease was confirmed by revealing the pear-shaped sporozoites in the red cells. Peripheral blood smears were done by using the May-Grünwald-Giemsa staining method. The disease was confirmed by the presence of Babesia canis. Key words: babesiosis, ammonia halitosis, anaemia, jaundice, xerostomia
THE IMPACT OF MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION ON THE DECISIONS TO INCREASE THE PERFORMANCE OF AN ORGANIZATION
: Many Romanian companies going through a difficult period, which makes the care of managers to materialize more on obtaining immediate profit and rarely on some less obvious aspects such as communication influence on labour productivity. Often managers do not consider communication as a factor of real importance that may affect the staff performance. The way we communicate with those around us in the professional activity, but not only, place their mark on the results. Quality of management communication influences the way how the human resource is used and the organizational performance, in particular. Based on the fundamental role of the market in contemporary economic development, in this study we aim to analyse how the financial markets in Romania are regulated, monitored and, especially supervised, compared to developed or developing European countries, close or far away from the national borders. The study highlights the main trends in the existing financial supervision systems abroad after the 2000s and ends with proposals based on the authors' opinion regarding the best option for the Romanian supervisory model of financial markets
Reshaping the world financial system – an imperative of sustainable development
This paper presents the general and specific causes which led to the actual financial and economic crisis, the principal consequences of this crisis like some other theoretical considerations regarding the cyclical normal evolution of the economies and the major disequilibrium instauration between the market’s components which generates crisis. A critical analysis of the actual financial and monetary system emphasizes its pro-cyclic character. On the following pages, the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the present system are put into light, starting with: lack of an international reserve currency to ensure stability and development, use of complex and opaque financial instruments, making decisions taking into account the rating agencies statistics which have serious problems especially in operating actions, unsecured procedures for the financial assets’ evaluation, existence of the so called “fiscal havens”, inefficiency of “the market’s invisible hand and aspects related to the current issues and sustainable development. Furthermore, the paper underlines the context of change and reform initiatives, governments’ concerns for re-building the financial and monetary actual system and, finally, action lines and intervention to change completely the system and introduce a new international reserve currency. The need of change, key word for the prevention of future crises and necessity in the context of sustainable development represents the basic conclusion of this work
