    No full text
This study explored primary teacher’s philosophical orientation towards teaching, which was defined as a teacher’s set of interrelated beliefs that they develop and utilize when teaching. Teachers are expected to conflate epistemological beliefs, instructional training and societal expectations of effective instruction to construct a single perceptual identity and cause learning, but since 2009-2019,pupils in Eastern region of Uganda have persistently continued to perform poorly in Primary Leaving examination  hence a need to examine the epistemological and ontological position of teachers. To accomplish this task, a qualitative research approach was used, interview and non-participant observation were the data collection instruments. A key finding of this work was that teachers do not practice the methods of teaching they learnt during their teacher education programs. The study suggests infusion of Karl Popper`s Falsification principle, Michael Gibbons Mode 2 Knowledge Production and Epistemological codes in teacher education programs. The nature of subjects, learning and teaching must also be well aligned to each other in order to form a good base for teaching

    No full text
The aim of the study is to conduct validity-reliability study of mobile learning readiness scale (MLRS) developed by Cheon, Lee, Crooks and Song (2012) in the framework of theory of planned behavior by adapting to Turkish. The participants of the study are 344 pre-service science teachers educating at two different faculties of education (Nevşehir Hacı Bektas Veli University and Kırşehir Ahi Evran University) in the spring semester of 2018-2019 in Turkey. The construct validity of the scale adapted to Turkish was carried out via Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) method. Reliability of the scale was tested by computing Cronbach’s alpha (α) as internal consistency levels. It was found that the level of internal consistency value was .93 and sub-factors of MLRS were in good level. In conclusion, Turkish version of the MLRS in the framework of theory of planned behavior consists of four main factors including attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and intention and three external beliefs including Attitudinal Beliefs (Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness), Normative beliefs (Instructor Readiness, Student Readiness) and Control beliefs (Perceived Self-efficacy, Learning Autonomy) as in the original model

The participants of the research study consisted of 203 senior primary school teacher candidates who studied in three different universities in the 2018-2019 academic year. “Early Teacher Identity Scale” and “TEDS-M Beliefs About the Effectiveness of Teacher Education Program” were used as data collection tools. As a result, it was determined that the teacher candidates’ beliefs about the effectiveness of the teacher education program are high and theearly teacher identity was at a medium level. In addition, it was revealed that the belief about the consistency of the teacher education program differed significantly in favor of female teachers according to gender, while the early teacher identity did not differ. The study has been figured in the form of relational survey model on the purpose of putting forth the relationship between the tendency to gossip of the teachers working at public secondary schools and their organizational commitment levels. It has been conducted with 159 volunteer teachers. The data of the research has been collected by "Organizational Commitment" and "Tendency to Gossip" scales. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques have been used in the data analysis. In consequence of the research, it has been determined that teachers mostly display achievement in tendency to gossip and affective commitment. It has been found that there is significant difference according to teachers' age and seniority in tendency to gossip and seniority and teachers' numbers in organizational commitment. There has been a low and medium relationship between tendency to gossip and organizational commitment. The Internet and the software stores for mobile devices come with a huge number of digital tools for any task, and those intended for digital formative assessment (DFA) have burgeoned exponentially in the last decade. These tools vary in terms of their functionality, pedagogical quality, cost, operating systems and so forth. Teachers and learners need guidance on how to choose the most effective digital formative software to make the most out of it. This study provides an in-depth critical review of the features of most popular formative assessment tools available on the Internet. It aims to unearth what current DFA tools are capable of doing and what further developments are needed for more effective use. The tools for analysis were sampled using frequency of mentions in educational technology websites and blogs and two scholarly databases (Web of Science and Scopus). After identifying the most frequently recommended reviewed and researched formative assessment tools, the researchers inspected 14 tools in terms of various issues, ranging from platforms and devices used, item-types offered by the software, features related with monitoring student performance and providing feedback (through student/instructor dashboards), grading, scoring of open-response items and collaborative responses. The results indicated that all closed-ended items were common to all the tools examined and they were automatically scored, while only a few of them offered underdeveloped methods of grading open-ended items. All the tools provided learner analytics with diverse forms of data and different mechanisms for feedback, yet the most common form of data were immediate answers and numerical scores. It was also clear that popularity did not necessarily mean offering more functionalities and better tools. Based on the current status of the tools, avenues for further research are discussed. Keywords: Digital formative assessment, mobile learning, feedback, distance education and online learning, improving classroom teachin

The garden-based learning approach is becoming more popular as places where students can learn interdisciplinary. Garden-based learning approach is one of the important factors in the implementation of programs in garden-based learning approach, and the teacher's attitude towards garden-based programs is very important. Therefore, in this study, it was aimed to develop a scale to determine teachers' attitudes towards garden-based learning. "Teachers' Attitude Scale Towards Garden Based Learning Approach" was developed. After the expert opinion created a 42-item scale trial form was applied to teachers working in different parts of Turkey. As a result of the multi-step EFA analysis conducted in validity studies, it was seen that the 20-item scale was collected in 3 dimensions as a result of the load values of the items belonging to each dimension of the 42-item scale. As a result of the analysis, it is seen that the dimensions in which the 20-item scale is gathered under three dimensions, explain 37.11%, 12.46% and 12.19% of the total variance and 61.76% of the total variance, respectively. Reliability coefficients were calculated as alpha 0.94 for the first dimension, 0.79 for the second dimension and 0.70 for the third dimension. The alpha value for the whole scale was found to be 0.94. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the "Attitude Scale of Teachers towards Garden Based Learning Approach" is a valid and reliable scale measuring teachers' attitudes towards garden-based learning
