Once the COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic, most countries temporarily closed schools and shifted to home-based distance education. Each country had its own way of implementing education remotely. Turkey used an enhanced version of the currently existing Education Information Network (EBA) to deliver distance education to all children including those with autism. The rapid shift from face-to-face education to home-based virtual learning created unprecedented challenges and impacted development and learning of children with autism who often need individualized and systematic instruction. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore parental perceptions about effectiveness of distance education practices for children with autism and challenges they faced during visual learning. A total of 208 parents of children with autism participated in quantitative data collection while 18 also attended to individually conducted interviews. Results indicated many families did not use EBA to support their children’s learning and the content of virtual learning opportunities through EBA was not appropriate for the characteristics of children with autism. Implications for future practice and research as well as the limitations of this study were discussed

Research related to teacher cognition has regained momentum over the years, and related problems have been studied from different perspectives. Studies concerning the belief systems of Turkish preservice teachers in the English as a foreign language (EFL) domain are existent but insufficient. This study tries to add to the existent literature by examining the changes in belief systems of Turkish EFL preservice teachers during a 14-week practicum practice. To this end, a case study was carried out at a public university in Turkey. Reflection reports of 53 preservice teachers, which were written both at the beginning and the end of the practicum practice, were analyzed using content analysis. The results revealed that certain changes in participants’ belief systems appeared during the practicum practice. The changes clustered around five main categories: the use of mother tongue in language instruction, the affective aspect of teaching, teaching mechanism, the use of technology in language instruction, and the relationship between theory and practice. We discuss the results in relation to the related literature and provide implications along with suggestions. In many countries, students enroll in a school without being given a choice and spend most of their time with teachers and administrators they have never met before. This research was carried out to analyze the opinions of students about the school and its staff, which can often be considered as the fate of students by some people. The research was carried out with 27 students, 14 female and 13 male, studying in five different secondary schools in the 2022-2023 fall semester. In this study, which was conducted with the qualitative research method, the data were collected using a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers. Content and descriptive analysis techniques were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was observed that the most positive opinions of the students were towards the teachers, and the most negative opinions were related to the school administrators. It has been determined that more than half of them have negative opinions about the concept of school. Keywords: English as a foreign language, teacher education, preservice teachers, teacher cognitio

In the current study, is aimed to reveal what kind of practices can be good examples in the first literacy teaching process based on the opinions of primary teachers. For this purpose, the study was designed according to the nested single case design, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the study is composed of eighteen primary teachers selected by using the criterion sampling method. A standardized open-ended interview form was used as a data collection tool, and the obtained data were analyzed using content analysis. According to the results obtained, the primary school teachers are of the opinion that including games and materials necessary for these games, using digital platforms related to literacy, doing dictation exercises, rhyme reciting, teaching with rhythm and music, creating stories and regular reading activities in the classroom are useful in the initial literacy teaching process. Outside the classroom, it was determined that they found practices such as making children play in the schoolyard, ensuring parental support, giving less homework, using WEB 2.0 tools, recommending mobile literacy applications and writing exercises with natural materials. The primary teachers made suggestions to increase the quality of the initial literacy teaching process, such as using gamification, giving greater importance to practice, creating positive emotions in parents and children, and taking into account the developmental characteristics of children

The study was carried out to evaluate influence of economic factors  on uptake of  avocado improved production technologies by small scale  farmers to increase yields. The study was carried out in Kisii and Nyamira counties region, Kenya. The general objective of the study is to improve avocado production in the study region. The specific objective is to evaluated influence of farmer’s economic factors; farm size and access to finance on upake of the production technologies, respectively. Reduced avocado yields in the region could be due to low uptake of improved  production technologies by  small scale farmers. The study hypothesised that the low  uptake could be due to  chance and there is no  significant influence  of the farmer’s economic factors; farm size and access to funds  on  the  uptake. Descriptive survey  research design  was used. Stratified and  purposive sampling  procedures and Morgan’s table of sample size determination  were applied in chosing of respondents. There was one sub-county  purposively sampled from each  of  the 4 agroecological zones in the region for study area. Thus from 4 sub  counties with 1,211  house holds, a sample of 291 respondents was accessed  using Morgan’s table. Reliable structured questionnaires with  Cronbach Alpha, α=0.724 were  used to collect  field data from 291  small scale avocado farmers. The data was analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SSP) computer software. Descriptive,  analysis of variance, least significant difference and regression outputs were obtained. Results show that influence of  farmer’s farm size of more than 3 acres and access of funds from formal employment make significant  difference and have positive correlation with uptake of avocado improved production technologies, respectively. Farmer’s access of funds from banks or SACCOs  does not  have  a significant  influence on uptake of the avocado production technologies. Land subdivsion among small scale farmers should be discouraged and and affordable credit sources for them considered, respectively for increased uptake of avocado improved production technologie

    No full text
The study aims to reveal the main philosophy of the Orff Schulwerk education approach. This approach is known as the Orff Schulwerk approach/method developed by the German composer Carl Orff. In the Orff Schulwerk approach, which is compatible with an understanding parallel to the constructivist education approach; there is no traditional teacher or a traditional education or traditional teaching approach. In this approach, the teacher has an important role in conveying the knowledge, skills and achievements to the students, in the center of education, in the structuring and managing the whole process. Although the student is at the center of learning, the teacher has the mission of being an important guide in the process of structuring this learning. In this study, the roles attributed to the teacher by the Orff Schulwerk approach are discussed with the necessary explanations and examples. In the study, the survey model was preferred as the research method. It is aimed to reveal the main philosophy, starting point, method, instruments of the Orff Schulwerk method and the roles given to the teacher during the implementation of all these parameters. For this purpose, the relevant studies in the literature so far are discussed, and some suggestions are put forward via interpreting the results in the light of these related studies
